Really liked this one. Sometimes we feel like we need to know it all before putting our work out there and turns out even established professionals have their struggles as well.
3:44 Ask the special effects team. ‘This is the scene, I believe that this is the idea/ feeling. It sits with/ links with this and this and this and this (storyboard helps). What do you think? Where should the explosion be and how?’ Don’t people talk to each other?
I was under the asumption that the photographer decide the shot, not the director. the director has vision of the story but the photographer has the artistic style to portrait?
3:14 😲 That’s awful. Sorry for asking, I don’t know anything about how a movie is made. Don’t all professionals involved talk to each other before the very beginning? 😲 Talk about the general vision of the film, choose a scene as an example, and get everybody to present their view from their respective professional perspective. The director is not a tyrant to bully other members of the project crew. It’s ONE scene but with many layers- light, effects, props, direction, acting, etc. I think it is respectful and time saving, in the end.
I find this thoroughly disappointing. One of my dreams I knew it would never come true was to be film director, but now that I find out how it works, I don’t think I would have like it. Even I (with my tendencies to be perfectionist and bossy) am appalled at the blatant disrespect. That’s not directing a movie, it’s tyranny on set.
3:29 😮 It’s not what ‘they’ want. It’s your area of expertise. Is a director a sound specialist? A cameraman? That’s AWFUL. It’s very fragmented- how can you produce something together?
I’m sure the full chat will be cut up into smaller discussions like this. No doubt you’ll hear from her during one of them. It’s possible for this she just didn’t share anything.
This was a short segment. I'm guessing (hoping) she did have more input in the full discussion. But I don't think there's a moderator so it would be up to her to speak up.
5:32 Isn’t not like Hollywood makes big bucks to provide the film project crews with what they need… I don’t get it. If you want something well made, give the team the goddamn tools. It’s, also, their individual professional passion and satisfaction. Having a frustrated and disrespected team is, in itself, a pointless horror show.
So reassuring to see that it didn't come easy even for well established professionals.

Please bring back content like this. Such a great resource
I like the older gentlemen, he talks a lot of sense and seems interesting.
That's the best answer, (3:21 mark) "You tell me where you want me to put the camera, and I'll put it."

Well, thats made me feel way better about not yet knowing the in's and outs of everything on set haha
I feel so much better knowing that master cinematographers make mistakes.
Would love to have seen more. Nothing but a master class when these folk get together.
Fantastic lessons here between the back and forths, I'd love to see more unedited conversation.
Nice, always learning!
Well this makes me feel much better :D
Love it ! 😍
Continuity... always continuity
I feel like the VFX sup may be saying that to learn to replicate and match it.
Why doesn't Kate say anything?
I don’t understand! Actual cinematographers aren’t young UA-cam influencers criticizing the latest camera gear?
Those channels make me feel miserable about the gear I have. Then I lose the courage to film something because I feel like what I have is not enough.
@@gusj2800 especially when they complain about the weight of a mirrorless camera.
Its not that hard for me, i Guess it must be talent. thats why you better be a director and cinematographer too.

Pretty disappointed to see the only woman there not have any input.
Give it a rest

Are your serious inviting a female DOP and not having a word of her in the video? WTF
