Great choice with the 85 mm 1.8.... Batis 85 mm 1.8 was my first option, but I saw that the differences between the two lenses are small and I decided to buy the Sony 85 mm 1.8.Thank you so much!
Hi, I am using zeiss batis 40mm. Impressed with its image quality and close focus ability with excellent texture rendering. Sometimes i face eye autofocus is not accurate on batis 40mm. Have you experienced it with the lens. Other than that its a beautiful lens
I have not specifically noticed it missing focus on the eye, but now I'll have to pay closer to attention to see if that's a problem. Would that be more of a problem stemming from the camera body or the lens, though? Hmmm!
The same feeling here, don’t know is I should get another copy and sell mine or what. I love the rendering so I still want it… but some times I feel is not sharp enough
Hi Courtney, truly amazing and can i say legendary choice of lenses. Can you please tell me what lens and picture profile did you use for shooting the talking head video? its looking great..
I think a 40mm focal length is a good, but not great. I often go shooting with only two prime Lenses, a wide angle Lens on one Camera and a short tele Lens on an other Camera, which Lenses I choose depends on when and what to shoot and what mood I have. My Lenses are Sony 14mm 1.8 GM, Zeiss Loxia Distagon 21mm 2.8 T*, Sony 24mm 1.4 GM, Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA, Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical, Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 T* ZA, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Apherical, Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T*, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 110mm 2.8 and Sony 135mm 1.8 GM.
You have a fantastic line-up! I have the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM which is always in my bag on wedding days, but rarely use it for a portrait shoot, unless it's inside, and then I have to really watch the distortion. I think mine is also slightly decentered, which is a huge bummer. My next dream lens will be the Sony FE 50mm f/1.2 GM. Then I might leave the 40mm at home on occasion. I also have the Sony 135mm f/1.8 and it has the best image quality I've ever seen, but I also love that compressed look. I have the Zeiss Loxia 21mm that I use for landscape. Also INCREDIBLE. Many have recommended the Zeiss 85mm f/1.8 but I just haven't been pushed over the edge to buy it yet.
@@ccreatesartcrafts The Sony 24mm 1.4 GM is the best 24mm you can get, I use it ofte as a two-in-one Lens, because often I use the APSC crop mode if I do not need the full 61 megapixel, it is still 26 megapixels and it is 35mm equivalent. The Sony 135mm is excellent, but a bit too big and heavy, now I use it rrely, the Voigtländer Macro APO- Lanthar 110mm 2.5 is sharper at 2.5 and 2.8, I looked through my image from the 135mm and most of the image was aperture 2.8 to 5.6. I do not like the exact focal length 50mm, any focal length shorter or longer, I have the excellent Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8 which is light and compact. I can very highly recommend the Zeiss Batis 85mm, I got it used 3 month ago for US$550 (taxes included). The Zeiss Loxia 21mm 2.8 I was very lucky to find at my local store for under half price at US$740 (new, opened box). In the long run, Cameras and Lenses that are compact and light weight wins.
Hi, Courtney. This is a very helpful video, as I am considering purchasing the 40mm Batis at the current discounted price of $995. I already own the 85mm Batis F1.8, which I purchased years ago for use as a 135mm equivalent on my non-stabilized APS-C bodies. I bought this lens, in no small part, because of its built-in stabilization. It has served me well, even on my newer, stabilized camera bodies. I am interested in whether you considered this lens to match the rendering of your 40mm Batis. I realize it would be more expensive than the Sony 85mm F1.8, but does offer a couple of advantages, including the stabilization and the Zeiss “pop”. Thank you../Warren Barnes, Northborough, Massachusetts
Hi Warren! I cannot recommend the 40mm Batis enough. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Sure, it's pricey, so if you can find a discounted good version, I'd go for it. I keep meaning to look more into the 85mm Batis f/1.8, because I love the 40mm so much. I'm fairly satisfied with the Sony 85mm f/1.8, but I am looking to upgrade in the future. It would likely be a Sony or Zeiss lens. Likely not the 85mm f/1.4 due to price and slower focus. Sony's 50mm f/1.2 is also calling my name... If you shoot any landscape or architecture, I'd also recommend the Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8. It's so incredibly brilliant and sharp. Low distortion. I even bring it to weddings sometimes for large group photos where I have time to manually focus or for venue shots when needed. Thanks for your comment!
I did! The Sony 85mm seemed to be better rated. Though I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one to try it in real life. Do you shoot with the Batis? Do you prefer it?
What's also nice about this combo is that they use the same filter size.
What a great video!
You got right to the point.
Your pictures are fantastic, too.
Think I’m getting that pretty Batis next!😂
Hi betweeen this and the Sony zeiss 35 1.4, which is better in your opinion?

Gmaster 1.4 85mm is the best!
Did you ever check out the Batis 85mm before deciding on the Sony 85?
I did! The Sony 85mm seemed to be better rated. Though I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one to try it in real life. Do you shoot with the Batis? Do you prefer it?
@@ccreatesartcraftsi own both, i can say the zeiss is better in contrast and colors.
I own both the Zeiss batis 85mm f1.8 and sony 85mm f1.8. Trust me the zeiss has far better colorrendering. If you can get the zeiss batis 85mm get it.
Good to know! Thank you!
