Hey guys! Thanks for posting the video! I have received my copy of the game and have really enjoyed playing it with my gaming group, but I/we do have a couple of questions: 1) Rich states in the video elements can consist of 2-4 aircraft...however in the rule book it states an element must have at least 2 aircraft but has no max limit...was this just a rule added for the demo?! One of my buddies is trying to fly 24 Rookie Yaks (with the Numbers Theatre card) in a 1000 point squadron and I really am not looking forward to facing it! 2) Is there a limit to the number of Aces a squadron can have? 3) If you play the Numbers Theatre card do you also add Aircraft Trait cards for the 2 aircraft added? (If Aces are added do you get to add 2 Ace Ability cards as well?) 3) When you buy a named Ace do you have to use the 2 Ace Ability cards listed on the Ace card itself or can you just select any 2 Ace Ability cards? 4) Can you have multiple copies of the same Ace, Doctrine, or Theatre cards in your deck? 5) We are having trouble understanding how you can pair the High Altitude Performance Doctrine Card with the Bonus: Great Climb Aircraft Trait card since High Altitude Performance is played when you are trying to outmaneuver an enemy plane (on your turn) and Great Climb is played in reaction to an enemy plane trying to climb (on the opponents turn)?! Thanks again for the video! Will you be posting another Scenario soon?! (Escort would be a fun one to watch!)
Justin is a damn good all around War gamer. I watch him play all sort of genre games and he gets on top of the rules and tactics right away. Well done sir. 👍
After watching a few of these I've bit the bullet and bought Blood Red Skies. I'm hoping my partner likes this more than she did X-Wing, what a disaster that was. Way too much fiddly crap to get it to the table, this seems quite clean and simple.
So let me get this straight. A ZERO did a ram (kamikaze) attack against a P-51, the P-51 was hit and goes down, but the ZERO (which rammed the P-51) is just fine? HUH!!!!!!!
And they forgot to add the extra boom chit for the loss of the plane. It may be more balanced if the ramming place also takes a boom chit for a successful ram.
I notice you normally use the 'measuring tool' but about 18min30secs in, Justin uses a tape measure. Have you fixed the anomaly between the two or is that a custom tool?
Just wondering Does the fame account for accurate versions of the different aircraft for the period you choose ? Meaning Zeroes vs mustangs (late 44) would be a6m5c vs p-51d Are a6m5 different than the a6m2 represents from the box Thanks Also Are speeds considered at the best altitude performance Thanks in advance
Hey Steve. This is an awesome comment and I have had John consider this who promptly walked away for a "thinking mug of tea" He's come back and said: From what we know so far, Blood Red Skies is sticking to versions of planes that are the most well known. P51-D, Spitfire Mk2 etc.. The core box is pretty specific to the model types in the box as it is Battle of Britain. I would assume, over time, they will be exploring more time-period or campaign-specific model types. But that is pure speculation at the moment. As for the speed statistics, I would imagine that, yes, the speeds given are under best performance of the plane in it's most ideal altitude. Since Altitude is not considered in the core rules beyond "Advantaged, neutral and disadvantaged" It could be something you houserule if playing, for example, bomber escort missions, as in some of those cases the bombers would be flying at a set altitude, which could help you decide if any aircraft would be a little slower, or faster, in that particular circumstance.
TheBeastsOfWar thanks Looking forward to trying this We need a game to fit on the table top in between our main game Mustangs and Messerschmitts “ Check out my channel for short descriptions of that game Roll well
Another question gentleman Do the symbols on the dice mean anything besides the ace symbol I was wondering what the numberps represent or are they just there so we can use those for other games thank you
At this point the in time the other numbers on the dice are only used when you are rolling to determine your staring advantage level for each aircraft during set up. 1-2 = Disadvantage 3-4 = Neutral and 5-6 = Advantaged.
