    I completely forgot to paint the Zeros nose cowling black, thank you to everyone who spotted it. For those following, this should be done in the same way as with the B5N ‘Kate’.
    The updated video thumbnail shows how it should look.

    For painting the Zero, another option is Tamiya paints which have Japan-specific paint colors. The Zero wasn’t white but this weird pale grey-green, Tamiya XF-76 Grey-Green (IJN) replicates this. This was the factory standard color though later in the war a green layer would be added to the top after they were received by their units.

      Thank you for that David, really helpful. I used to use quite a few Tamiya colours but haven’t for a while, I’ll check them out.

    Well done as a quick, get them on the table paint scheme
    And you’ll have lots of fun with them It’s a great game.
    At this stage of the war, the early zeros are actually a light brownish green grey color similar to a taupe
    But because the paint was of poor quality and the sun was so intense the color soon faded …
    Interesting when you see an actual color chip from an aircraft of that time period
    (Oh yeah….the zero cowling was a blue black😉)
    Keep up the good work

    Very timely posting, Stuart. I'm sliding down the slippery slope of BRS and its all your fault 🤣. Got hooked with your Aces unboxing video and its been full speed ahead since then. Love all your videos, keep 'em coming|

    Excellent painting guide as always mate! I really do like this range, I really hope they go with a British Pacific range and then they'll definitely win me over! In terms of Japanese Zeros, the common misconception is that they were all painted white. Historians agree that they infact were more of a caramel colour and not white or light grey. Frustrating as white looks amazing and who really cares at this scale? Still, just thought you might be interested to know ;)

      Cheers dude. Yeah I didn’t do detailed research, just relied on colour plates, I found out after about the white.

    For my Zeros I went no further than Citadel Wraith-bone undercoat with 1:3 ratio Nuln Oil:Lahmian Medium wash. Here's the irony, as far as I can tell Japanese Zero production was almost bespoke with many small factories producing them and yet they all seem to be the same off-white colour (for Midway at least). By contrast the US was mass producing Wildcats etc so factory paint schemes should be predominant and yet each Carrier seemed to (be allowed!!) to go it's own way; Light Blue, Dark Blue, Grey Blue, Light Grey, Dark Grey....... take your pick.
    In the end my approach was the same as yours; do these Zeros and Dauntless' over a barren Midway sea look like what they're supposed to be? Yep, good, move on.
    Looking forward to getting mine in the air next week. Great video as always Stu.

      😂 I ended up getting my sets super cheap, about half RRP, was a good option to have as a game to get out for a change of pace.

    I only use army painter paints, you couldnt think of a blue equivalent for the wildcats could you? Haha, sorry.

      😬 sorry I rarely use Army Painter regular paints at all, so nothing springs to mind I’m afraid. I think you are probably better placed than me from knowing the range.

      It’s from Scalecolour/scale 75, the one I was using is called ‘Grease’.

    Juset ask me a question. I just bought battle of midway box, but inside, all planes are Grey, not blue and white as yours..Somebody now why?

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Рік тому

      Hmmm, not sure with that. I’ve found the coloured plastic to be a little bit different to the Aces that I have, they’re more like standard Warlord Resin. Maybe Warlord are moving all those sets over to the new formula Warlord Resin.

      @@MiniatureRealms thx for your answer. What is better in your opinion? Résine or plastic?

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Рік тому +1

      Depends a little on the type of resin, for certain types of miniature I love it, but overall I prefer plastic I think.

    Not really my bag but I enjoy your videos even if they are not all my specific area of interest as you sometimes demonstrate techniques that I'd not considered, or may have but wanted to see then before I try. The oil wash results look really excellent and I think would work well for WW2 tanks and FOW aircraft. I stopped using the 'slap it all over' Agrax Earthsade tank wash ages ago, even thinned down I just find it too dark and really kills a German tri-colour camo scheme, as you mention, it's herd to prevent pooling (and on infantry uniforms it's a 100% NO!!!). I've tried other washes too, Army Painter and Vallejo Model Umber but.... meh. In fact I only tried the Vallejo Umber after I saw it used in a video and it looked OK. Complete garbage IMO. It looks way too pigmented to be a wash, it's very opaque. It's now relegated to being slopped over 15mm buildings (sadly I bought two bottles), otherwise it would be in the bin! I now stick to using an AK tan or brown filter and then just use the heavier washes as pin washes in a more targeted fashion. I'd love to try the oil wash, just not sure I can be bothered with an extra stage of a coat of gloss varnish first.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Рік тому +1

      That’s understandable, if I wasn’t glossing for decals anyway I might not use it as much. Still need to try those AK filters.
