Oscar changed his name to Paul Nicholas before embarking on a TV and stage career. He was well known in the 80's as a sitcom heartthrob on Just Good Friends and also performed in musical theater ...Hair, Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar. I don't know what became of that David Bowie fella though.
This used to be on the juke box at the 59 Club when we were across the road from the old Paddington Green police station. When it played, all the windows were opened so they could hear it.
It was released on 30th January 1967. It was performed on Ken Dodd's Sunday night TV show shortly afterwards with Dodd joining Oscar with the vocals and David "Diddy" Hamilton reprising Bowie's spoken 'roll call' part.
The last time I heard this was in 1967 on Radio Caroline North! So good to hear it again after all these years! Looking forward to any other unusual 60's vinyl in your collection. Thanks for posting...
Paul Nicholas just talked about his audio book out now and mentioned he sang this record ( breakfast TV June 27 2023). It was banned back in the day. Found it here in two minutes!
I remember the Pirates playing this a lot myself, it was Radio 270 in my case, the Pennines absorbed most of the Caroline North signal but 270 was rock solid.
Oscar's third single, a novelty song called "Over the Wall We Go" (1967) is notable for being written and produced by a young David Bowie and it gained a degree of notoriety because of Bowie's tongue-in-cheek lyrics concerning escaped prisoners and incompetent policemen, which satirised a rash of highly publicised prison break-outs in the UK and was banned by the BBC.
Hi 270Bunny. It had to be pre August the 14th for 270 to have played it but the actual release date has so far eluded me, one site says September 1966 but the label clearly shows 1967.

This song is going to be stuck in my head now
OMG, I was a child in the 70s and this was one of my brothers records. Takes me back! Thank you for uploading.

Oscar was Paul Nicholas middle name.
His full birth name is Paul Oscar Busilinck.

I saw that too so I looked it up. Haven't heard this in over 50 years!
Fortunately the Pirate Stations were on the air and they didn't ban it, they gave it plenty of plays.

How can anyone not like this. Love the brass band & acoustic guitar, plus distinctive drumming. The trombone bit at around 4secs is execllent!!!

David Bowie song sung by actor singer Paul Nicholas under a false name. Some people thought it was Bowie under an alias.
Bowie appear on it around 1:25 mark, though.
Whoooo! Hahahaha!
