  • We all know about the sinking city of Joshimath in Uttarakhand. The city faced multiple cracks, havoc situations, and people displaced from the places which they considered home, it was a trauma for the people of Uttarakhand. But what if we say that there can be another Joshimath, but this time not in Uttarakhand? But thousands of kilometres away to the North Eastern region of India, to Darjeeling and to Sikkim. Joshimath didn’t happen all of a sudden, and so is the situation with Darjeeling and Sikkim. Why? What is causing this, are actions being taken? Who’s responsible for this? What can be the possible solution? Let’s find out with Joshimath 2.0 : Darjeeling and Sikkim Files.

I have been telling my friends and family that this underground tunnel railway project is not going to work in Sikkim as we already have faced major 6.8 magnitude earthquake in 2011 and at that time there were no major projects like this now imagine the ecosystem disbalance after this. I hope nothing happens in the future as nobody wants the horror repeated.

Last year in August during monsoon we visited Darjeeling. We were horrified to see the condition of the Sevok road and Teesta river due to railway project and surprised to know that it's not a narrow gadget but a broad gadget railway project on such a fragile topography.

Sustainable development should be our focus .Big and expensive infrastructures will cause more damage than it'll benefit .Only industries which are apt with the geography of hills should be developed .Development is important but not at the cost of people's lives and environment degradation.

Being a citizen of Darjeeling yes we are scared of this natural calamity which is being caused by the illegal construction project. Darjeeling is a small mountain area and in a place like that we cannot rapidly construct big buildings which will directly affect the ground surface level. Government should look after this matter because this is not a joke but a serious matter to look after. We as a human cannot play with nature and cannot be greater than nature. I really appreciate the cord members for making this video and spreading the news and making us alert.
