    I agree for the most part. I disagree with the idea that RTD couldn’t have brushed aside the previous era with ease. The amount of times the show just swiftly moves and people don’t really say anything has been countless.
    I just think the simple issue is that RTD had no vision for coming back other than “we need to save the show.” So he keeps making conflicting choices with the show and trying to have his cake and eat it too.
    Totally agree with The Doctor’s character tho. I kinda wish the show would actually treat THE DOCTOR as a mystery in them self.
    I also think trying to confront male role models and stereotypes should be done through the relatable audience surrogate. The companion. Not keep using The Doctor for that vehicle.
    Edit: also massive agree about the look. Idk I’m finding the show kinda trying to be like everything else on the market.

      Agree with pretty much everything you said. Especially the point about companions. People seem to hyperfixate on the Doctor's status as the "hero" that they forget you can have extremely meaningful representation through the companions.
      Really enoying your 60s re-edits of Modern Who by the way!

    I'm not really liking the huge budget the show has now, it no longer feels like a British TV show on a British TV budget, but has instead been swallowed up by Disney, which also limits certain aspects of the writing which aren't Disney-friendly.
    I noticed this greatly with the specials, it comes across very much like a kids show now, there isn't really much there for the grown ups, no subtext, no double entendre, once you notice it, it's distracting and insidious.
    It's also very poor that they parked the OG Doctor's licence on Earth with Donna so it's separate from the Disney licence, and created an alternate licence for Disney with basically a cloned doctor and cloned tardis. We're not watching the Doctor, it's like that episode where Jenny was created from the Doctor, only this time we're now following Jenny.
    I'm more interested in Tenant and Tate's story continuing, knowing that they're there on Earth with a Tardis means that no matter how hard I try, this isn't the OG doctor or tardis to me.
    I'm fully expecting tenant to show up in every episode there is some kind of threat to the universe or Earth, which is a massive distraction, and really just signifies to me that this licencing trickery has me uninterested in the Disney Doctor.
    I will wait for them all to air before attempting to binge them in one go, but my lack of motivation and overall interest in the Disney Doctor feels like Sarah Jane, which I also didn't watch or have any interest in as that too was a kid's spin off.

      I don’t think licensing had much to do with the Doctor split, it’s more RTD not being able to let go and trying to come up with new ideas for things like regeneration, while also resetting the Doctor somewhat to try and bring in a new audience.

    I don't know if I've grown out of the show, or if the show is just targeting a younger audience, but the lack of interest which began with Whittaker is only amplified by bringing back David Tennant and Catherine Tate, but then just abandoning them. What a stupid move.. I feel like this a separate show made by Disney and not the Doctor Who which has been largely absent since Moffatt threw in the towel.
    Funding, or lack thereof, has never been an issue for Doctor Who and is an integral part of it's identity. Showering it with Disney Dollars to make it look like an American Disney production is the death rattle of a show which needs a focus on better writing, not more CGI.
    No DW is better than bad DW.

    • @PlatinumAltaria

      Do you seriously just want them to wheel out Tennant constantly? The show has to actually evolve, don't let nostalgia poison your enjoyment.

    • @Sparx632
      @Sparx632 5 місяців тому +1

      No it would have been stupid if they cast Tennant as a full 3 year incarnation because it would feel like they were out of ideas. We all wanted him to come back, this was the smartest way of doing that because having him as an event Doctor meant he didn’t overstay his welcome and they could try new things with Ncuti.
      Let’s see more than 1 episode of Disney budget DW before we come to conclusions. The trailers have been brilliant so far.

      Issue is it isn't evolving. It's pandering to an audience that doesn't know or care about it.
      Just like Marvel, Star Wars, mainstream comics, Star Trek and triple A gaming; it's becoming homogenised into the same bland corporate sludge that they expect people to eat up and ask no questions.
      Those who don't are labelled all sorts of names and slandered by the media, and thus the once giant IPs fail into apathy where nobody watches it:
      - Real fans won't watch it, cause they've been told to piss off
      - "Modern audiences" won't watch it, cause they don't support anything

    • @DaveMan1K
      @DaveMan1K 5 місяців тому +1

      They're targeting no audience with this. Gen Z doesn't support what people make for them. There was actually plenty of interest when Whittaker started, but the terrible writing turned people away quickly. They brought back two favourites, only to completely disrespect one and use the other as a mouthpiece for a blatant allegory. Disney has had a habit of destroying beloved IPs since 2015.
      The ratings are lower now than they were when the show was originally cancelled, but because they're virtual signalling so bad, they can't can it.

    I know it's just been one episode and that that episode was a Christmas special but something hasnt connected with 15 for me. I like him. I think he's a nice guy. However, he doesnt feel like... the Doctor 🤷‍♀️ It sounds clichè but to me its obviously someone trying to play the Doctor.
    Adding to your point about mystery and enigma i feel like we've forgotten that the Doctor is an alien. Of course hes lived with humans for centuries (so dont assume im falling into the Whittaker "im socially awkward" trap) but there is very little besides the glaringly obvious that differentiates him from a really intelligent human these days. Hes slightly wiser but thats it. There's a lack of subtle writing that shows his more alien foreign side lately. Its usually just slammed into the script through the use of technibabble and the occasional "arent humans stupid?" lines. I would prefer the writers explore an avenue that seperates the Doctor from humanity slightly. Obviously a big part is reducing the amount of earth-based stories, but I'd like to see a bigger exploration of him being separate and above (evolutionarily) humans outside of the usual biological and intelligence side of things.
    I also am already sick of him speaking like some council estate mum ( "hun", "babes" etc.) Its not hip or funny imo.
    Its also another one of these things thats uniquely human that doesnt really make sense for him to act like.

    I think one gripe i have with newer who (and a lot of modern shows) is that they can never take themselves seriously, what i mean by that is that there always has to be a punchline to everything. With Ecclestone and Tennant, there was a certain humour to some scenarios but it wasnt afraid to be dark and depressing. I just cant stand these forced jokes/one liners that completely throw away the gravity of situations and take away from the immersion of the stories.
    Everything seems to be Marvel-ised nowadays

    The question everyone will be asking throughout is "This doctor behaves like a 12 year old on redbull, when are we going to go back to Earth with 14 and co?".
    It was such a bad move making Gatwa a clone while the actual white guy Doctor is having a rest. Eventually they will all die and 14 doctor will fly off into time and space, but that's a problem now isn't it? It's not like he's retiring in his old age, tenant will eventually regenerate, and according to Davis he will bigenerate, so then there will be 3 Doctors, assuming Gatwa hasn't bigenerated too or there will be 4, and they can all do whatever they want without breaking the other's time stream.
    This is worse than the timeless child. Being the doctor has lost all meaning, there will eventually be hundreds of them, who will then bigenerate into 400, then 800, and so on.
    GIVE US MORE SEASONS OF TENANT AND TATE!

    • @PlatinumAltaria

      it is still the Doctor, it’s not just a duplicate it’s still his future version, if anything it’s less that Ncuti duplicated from Tennant and much more like Tennant stuck around after the regeneration when he wasn’t meant to.
      Also Millie is staying that was just tabloid nonsense, she’s literally filming her second series alongside the other new companion the tabloids listed as her “Replacement” and even if it were just one season it wouldn’t be a problem, Donna and Martha are both one season companions and have far more characterisation than Jodie’s companions who stick around for multiple series.

      @NeonVisual 5 місяців тому +3

      Certainly do get the vibe that this isn't the original doctor, and unfortunately I can't shake it no matter how hard I try. To me this is a separate American reboot show made by Disney with a separate doctor in an attempt to revive viewing figures, which also tells me that nuwho is done and concluded. That's it, and the only remnant of it left is Tenant's Doctor on Earth. Just like the MCU I don't really have any interest in it after Endgame, I don't have the energy to start the entire saga again, so I think for me Capaldi was where DW ended, I had hoped it would get back on track after Whittaker (which I didn't get on with at all and tuned off), but this isn't the solution.
      Bringing back Tenant and Tate, only to now have them sat around on Earth is not only a stupid concept, it only reinforces that Doctor who I was a fan of has ended, and this American show is just the result of the BBC selling out the fans to Disney, which is an insult, much like the Rings Of Power flopped.
      I hope the Americans like it, as this isn't going to do well in the UK at all.
