  • This was a fairly straightforward SSD upgrade, where we replaced a mechanical hard drive with a new M.2 NVMe Crucial P2 SSD in a Dell Inspiron 5570 laptop. We had a little trouble convincing the computer to boot from the M.2 drive, but once we did the computer ran great.

    thanks man! You're a lifesaver. I was ready to trash my Dell laptop until I saw this video. Switched to SSD drive and immediately converted the laptop to a Chromebook. So happy.

    Sir, this video is a must for this kind of Dell models. My worflow was cloning OS using free Macrium Reflect. Then my pain started when unplugging the cloned HDD and trying to boot from cloned SSD. Then just followed the part of the M.2 creation at Boot Sequence BIOS Menu and reordered it above Windows Boot Manager and Voilá, enjoying the new flying speeds. What a pain I must say, but with your aid it was a great relief 🙌🙌🙌

    I have an old Dell 15-5000 that was given to me, that had been refurbished. I was surprised to see an Intel Optane 256+16gb H10 in it. I upgraded to windows 11 and after seeing how easy it is to dismantle, I will upgrade the memory to 16gb and give it a good clean. So far it's going really well. Cheers from Sydney Australia.

    Gracias, gracias, muchísimas gracias. Tenía exactamente la misma láptop, y la misma situación de hacer un upgrade de un disco SSD clonado y tuve el mismo problema y no lo podía resolver. Min: 11:01

    Thanks for the video. I have the Dell 5570 I7 8550 Laptop. It came with a 1TB HDD and a 128 SSD. I wanted to upgrade to a larger SSD, but I'm not sure what the max size is I can use? Dell says too different things... one says 256 max and the other says 512 max? Thanks

      Had to say, as there is really no reason for them to limit the size. I’d try the 512, but I understand it’s a risk given that you’d be stuck if it doesn’t work. Sorry I can’t offer any better advice!

      512 nvme, otherwise 256

    Can i fresh install the OS in the new SSD ? And what will be the impact on the existing C drive contents ? Will they be erased if i freshly install the OS on a new SSD ?

    • @ComputerHelpNI
      @ComputerHelpNI  10 місяців тому

      You can do a complete reinstall without losing the contents, but you need to be careful (and ideally you should back a backup copy of the drive just in case something goes wrong).
      After booting to the Windows installation media and choosing Install Windows (as it won't allow you to upgrade after booting from the installer USB), you select your existing disk partition and click next. The installer will detect your existing Windows installation and inform you that your files will be copied to a Windows.old folder.
      After Windows is installed, you can open File Explorer and find your old files under Windows.old (i.e. C:\Windows.old\Users\[your name]\Documents and so on).
      If the files on your drive are important, please be sure you make a backup copy to be safe!

    I did all the steps and also had the same issue you had when you are booting with ssd. Tried everything you showed and for you when you did factory setting and reboot then it worked but it is not the case for me. Can you help me what to do?

    • @ComputerHelpNI
      @ComputerHelpNI  Рік тому +1

      It will depend on what the specific symptoms are. If the computer won't detect the SSD at all, as in this case, I reset the BIOS to factory settings, and it detected the SSD. If the computer will detect the SSD but not boot, then it's possible that the disk cloning didn't work correctly.

      According to Dell Community, that laptop only supports 512 GB: www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/inspiron/inspiron-5570-m2-slot-type/647f778df4ccf8a8de5999a0

    Hi, what will you recommend from these:
    RAM: 2X16gb 2400mhz
    - crucial
    - samsung
    - kingston fury
    * is the RAM mhz cannot be exceeded to 3200mhz?
    M.2
    - kingston NV1 NVMe PCIe SSD
    - Samsung 970 evo plus
    Thanks much

    • @ComputerHelpNI

      I personally prefer the Crucial SSDs, but mainly because they are inexpensive and very reliable. I don't know about the RAM speed, sorry!

    • @sawomirnieciecki1161
      @sawomirnieciecki1161 8 місяців тому +1

      RAM mhz cannot be exceeded over 2400mhz, yet it will accept 2666 and reduce it to 2400. I would recommend KINGSTON Fury Impact 2x16GB 2666MHz.
      It will accept 512 GB nvme / 256 GB sata. I would recommend SAMSUNG 980 500GB SSD, yet the performace will be limited to 50% (only 2 of 4 lines of PCI available for SSD). There is no economical reason for going on with PRO series or better disks.
