Thank you for help! Best Buy doesn’t deserve 200 bucks for a RAM install when it’s this simple. I had no idea, thank you!

I bought a HP Pavillion 15.6 AMD base and it takes a Nvme m.2 gen3 which I upgraded to 1tb and up the ram to 16gb. After struggling with Dell's , I find the HP'S alot better from speed to battery life.

Wow!! I am not going to lie. It had been awhile since I had taken a laptop apart to do any work on it. My eyes are not what they used to be. I was pretty certain the hard drive was shot in my HP. After watching your video the first time I said to myself, "why not give it a shot"? For $31 total from Amazon I got a tool kit and SSD hard drive. You made the rest easy. Can't thank you enough!!

I really love that it don’t seem like you did any edits to this video. While you were getting the install going I am sitting here with my pen in hand, biting my nails, making notes of what to do if I run into the same situation. Great video. You only spoke on what was necessary for this video. Very clear and straight to the mission. Really enjoyed this video! Thank you.

Bought one of these several months ago. The first thing I did was to wipe out Windows and install Linux Mint 20, now 20.1. Heads up about that, you'll need either a USB wifi to install the drivers for the Realtek wifi card or look around for the .deb file and type in a couple of commands to get that working. Other than that Linux Mint XFCE works great on this lap top.

Interesting, I looked up the spec sheet and it says the hard drive should be an NVME. I think what this video goes to show is that you should open up your laptop and figure out what you have first before ordering parts. Thanks for highlighting this key item to watch out for! I can see during a production run, the initial laptops in this series were SATA and then to simplify production, save money, and keep things consistent, HP may have at some point switched to NMVE towards the end of the run.

got the ryzen version of this today. going to put a 1tb 980 pro in it and 32 gb vengeance kit. the ryzen 5000 series came with an nvme pcie m.2 but only 256gb. going to have to run a usb hub in it with only 2 usb slots but nice looking laptop for my wife. i wish i could put in an ssd for an acronis restore disk as well but i dont seen any sata ports. but she loves it so far. i was able to duplicate all her settings and get all her preferences setup easily enough. the win 10 downgrade was a pain because i had to allow windows 11 to update before i could get the pc out of S-Mode before i could start the windows 10 install. other than that it went simply enough. all the drivers were grabbed in the install process. the radeon graphics driver was a wrong version but it worked well enough to get the right version installed. still waiting to open the case until the ram comes in the mail. i can say i hate its keyboard. i never liked blister keyboards and this one is particularly squishy feeling and lack a feeling of confidence of they keys actually getting pushed. The 6 core 12 thread cpu is nice much better then the 2 core systems i still see out there and the machine boots up pretty fast and little lag in input. for a low cost laptop its very good and its shortcomings are to be expected at the price. i just hope they make replacement keyboards available as i see having to replace it many times over the next several years. for my wifes purposes of email and browsing its perfect. the screen is remarkably clear for this tier computer as well. thanks for the video it will come in handy in the next few days when i do the upgrade.

i don't understand why they put a huge massive empty space in such a cramped laptop and then didn t even put some kind of port for putting another ssd. I would like to buy this pc (amd type) but this lack of second ssd port is killing me. do you think that putting a permanent 512 SD installed in the dedicated slot would be a viable solution for adding some space? just guessing

When i upgraded my acer a while ago, first of all it was so much easier to open up, no prying was involved (probably why theyre so flimsy) but i completely forgot to disconnect the battery. i only shut it down. still worked fine tho and the added HDD and +8gb ram all worked after that. But good thing to keep in mind now.

Hi sir, first of all, thanks for your videos! they are awesome, new subscriber here. I just bought a entrylevel laptop from HP, a 15s-fq0008sl (celeron n4120 with 4gb, 128gb m2 sata drive). I read the hp service manual and found this series (and also found a brandnew model named 15s-fq0006sl with apparently the same hw platform that comes with nvme one) is capable of run nvme drives. Given this, still you suggest to use a sata m2 drive or think it could work fine with the mvne? would I notice the differences in performances in this particular setup, with a n4120 cpu and 1 channel 8gb ram, or better stay with a bigger m2 sata ssd? thanks in advance and greetings from italy

If upgrading ram use the new rams plastic box to pry open the laptop 😅 .
Also, i have bought m.2 nvme 4th gen ssd for my hp 15 da1070nx , which is on 8th gen i7.
I have confirmed this from both the hp software and from ai that its conpatible. The ssd is xoming from amazon germany , i purchased it a few days ago for dirt cheap. But now after hearing you say i am worried if i will be able to put that. Still en route.
My laptop has a sata hdd which is very slow and also allows an m.2 . I will be placing a new m.2 nvme 4th gen ssd ( speed upto 5000) instead of the other 4th gen that goes 7,000 and 12,000. Because that speed wont be supported anyways .

Help! I bought a new HP Envy 17 cg0003ca with 256 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD from Costco. It comes pre-installed with an HP-branded Windows 10 Home.

This model is not equipped with a mounting caddy or cable for any 2.5 inch drive. Most newer models are like this.

Excuse me, where is the 2.5" SATA connector on this motherboard? Can a 2.5" SSD fit in there? Thank you

Great content! Just a question. Given that its somewhat hard to open this laptop, could you stick a thermal pad on the cpu and just clean the fan with a can of compressed air to avoid opening it too frequently?

This was nothing. Many laptops are much more difficult to open. My biggest concern was the rubber feet. Not common to hide the screws under removable rubber strips.

Hi, I have recently came to the US as an international student and I have the same laptop model. Wondering where to go for SSD installation in my laptop. It has HDD right now and it's very slow when it comes to its performance. Do shops like Walmart do the SSD installation?

So many videos showing how to replace hard drives on YT. How about showing how to add a secondary drive?

I just bought a HP 15-dy1087nr and came with 8GB of RAM. I tried to add 16GB and nothing would happen. Looks like I was a little impatient. I'll try again. Do you know if this HP will support 16 or 24GB of RAM? Thanks!

The most difficult part of this process is trying to loosen the screws for the battery. The manufacterer screwed 2 of the screws too tightly, and they're also a little stripped. Those things are tighter than a mofo. I've been trying to remove them for 30mins now (with both electric and manual screwdrivers) and they're not budging 😢.
