I really love that it don’t seem like you did any edits to this video. While you were getting the install going I am sitting here with my pen in hand, biting my nails, making notes of what to do if I run into the same situation. Great video. You only spoke on what was necessary for this video. Very clear and straight to the mission. Really enjoyed this video! Thank you.
I have the 1027od which does come with a 250GB NVMe, which I will upgrade to a 500GB NVMe. I noticed from the HP website the 1024wm doesn't support NVMe. Excellent video and reference tools. Thanks!
Bought one of these several months ago. The first thing I did was to wipe out Windows and install Linux Mint 20, now 20.1. Heads up about that, you'll need either a USB wifi to install the drivers for the Realtek wifi card or look around for the .deb file and type in a couple of commands to get that working. Other than that Linux Mint XFCE works great on this lap top.
Interesting, I looked up the spec sheet and it says the hard drive should be an NVME. I think what this video goes to show is that you should open up your laptop and figure out what you have first before ordering parts. Thanks for highlighting this key item to watch out for! I can see during a production run, the initial laptops in this series were SATA and then to simplify production, save money, and keep things consistent, HP may have at some point switched to NMVE towards the end of the run.
got the ryzen version of this today. going to put a 1tb 980 pro in it and 32 gb vengeance kit. the ryzen 5000 series came with an nvme pcie m.2 but only 256gb. going to have to run a usb hub in it with only 2 usb slots but nice looking laptop for my wife. i wish i could put in an ssd for an acronis restore disk as well but i dont seen any sata ports. but she loves it so far. i was able to duplicate all her settings and get all her preferences setup easily enough. the win 10 downgrade was a pain because i had to allow windows 11 to update before i could get the pc out of S-Mode before i could start the windows 10 install. other than that it went simply enough. all the drivers were grabbed in the install process. the radeon graphics driver was a wrong version but it worked well enough to get the right version installed. still waiting to open the case until the ram comes in the mail. i can say i hate its keyboard. i never liked blister keyboards and this one is particularly squishy feeling and lack a feeling of confidence of they keys actually getting pushed. The 6 core 12 thread cpu is nice much better then the 2 core systems i still see out there and the machine boots up pretty fast and little lag in input. for a low cost laptop its very good and its shortcomings are to be expected at the price. i just hope they make replacement keyboards available as i see having to replace it many times over the next several years. for my wifes purposes of email and browsing its perfect. the screen is remarkably clear for this tier computer as well. thanks for the video it will come in handy in the next few days when i do the upgrade.

This was nothing. Many laptops are much more difficult to open. My biggest concern was the rubber feet. Not common to hide the screws under removable rubber strips.
Hi, I have recently came to the US as an international student and I have the same laptop model. Wondering where to go for SSD installation in my laptop. It has HDD right now and it's very slow when it comes to its performance. Do shops like Walmart do the SSD installation?
Great video! Thank you for making it. I have a Hp 15-dw0043dx and would like to upgrade the hard drive to 1 TB. Is there a type and model hard drive you would recommend? I don't wanna buy the wrong thing. Thank you again.
Would this drive work? SK hynix Gold P31 1TB PCIe NVMe Gen3 M.2 2280 Internal SSD | Up to 3500MB/S | Compact M.2 SSD Form Factor SK hynix SSD | Internal Solid State Drive with 128-Layer NAND Flash
So many videos showing how to replace hard drives on YT. How about showing how to add a secondary drive?
On a laptop that will support a second drive, I have many videos doing just that.
I just bought a HP 15-dy1087nr and came with 8GB of RAM. I tried to add 16GB and nothing would happen. Looks like I was a little impatient. I'll try again. Do you know if this HP will support 16 or 24GB of RAM? Thanks!
Yes, 16gb is compatible
videos very informative
The most difficult part of this process is trying to loosen the screws for the battery. The manufacterer screwed 2 of the screws too tightly, and they're also a little stripped. Those things are tighter than a mofo. I've been trying to remove them for 30mins now (with both electric and manual screwdrivers) and they're not budging 😢.
