I had an '83 VH Commodore SL/X 4.2L (253ci) V8 that sounded just like that. Only put out around 115kw (155hp) with the stock duel exhaust, but geez did it sound bloody good when you stamped your right boot to the floor and those secondaries kicked-in...

The good advise given @ the 5:00 mark, makes up for the hickup given (a tad before) the 3:00 mark. Now if someone would make a bright & clear & short video on how to set the GD float using the pisspoor gauge every kit comes with, I might finish this hickup I volunteered to rebuild.

Hiya Baily, Do you have any tips on getting into and cleaning up the V4X volume/balance/tone pots with Deoxit? I'm starting on my V2X first so I know what I'm doing before moving on to the V4X. Have just replaced the gold caps which needed some attention on the PCB due to corrosion.
Hiya Chris... they’re fairly straightforward I haven’t had access to deoxit- used variants, stuff rated specifically for pots should be spot on- had 1 V4X distorting badly... imagine the surprise to find it was the volume pot!... when pushed in the distortion vanished.... I replaced the pot... Mainly though a gentle spray with power off, evenly go from volume 0 to 10.... Then see with power ON and music playing... USE MUTING ON... steadily run volume from 0 to 10 and listen for smoothness and evenness... in real time most wear is between 0 and 3 to 4... Let me know how you go... if stuck I might have a few spare pots
Thanks Baily, will give it a go now Christmas break is here. Also just picked up a junked V4X so there may be a few spares on that if needed. Jaycar sell the gold and red Deoxit kits.
I have to try that with my V4Xs, that is rad, like a record playing without being hooked up. I found the X90 also, have to get one of them

Yeah... I want to put a new clutch pack in.... need a gearbox main gasket.... Murphy’s law says the gasket will break after 30+ years of no disassembly.... have this one and a commander in the laundry... last year replacedmain tub seals in both.... If I get a gasket... will do a video of replacing those for the die hard Hoover fans.... - I know I’d never want a new washing machine

Re the comments of the vac advance line..... The one I have pointed out is the controller, it is not rocket science... Under idle and light throttle that has little vacuum, up booting it, as the revs spool up it develops a firm vacuum, which advances the dizzy... Some cars use this line as a control signal to make manifold vacuum reach advance on dist... Proven on this by no vacuum on the port at idle, in WOT I his is drastically changed.
