- On July 26th 2020 we sought out an unusual adventure. Rather than kayak in Florida or North Carolina, we decided to make reservations at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky to kayak in an underground mine. This mine was flooded by a natural spring and eventually abandoned. The current owners made it a unique kayaking experience. We kayaked with SUP Kentucky and they toured us through the mine and gave us a little history about the mine and the area. I highly recommend this adventure on your kayaking bucket list. Ow wow, what a unique and amazing experience! This mine tunnel is really massive. Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding must be very fun while watching the rainbow trout swimming beneath you. I love the spring water dripping from above . Absolutely a great adventure that one must try!

There has always been something so cool about these kind of places to me! Its amazing to consider the kind of history that once took place there! Then you have that eerie feeling of exploring an underworld universe. I used to love exploring caves back in the day, it really does feel like a whole different world and you get that exciting feeling of exploring somewhere that you truly never should have seen before! Simply amazing!

It was easily the best place we've kayaked in 2020... The only downfall was having to use their kayaks instead of ours, but we did take our kayaks to a lake later in the year to Kentucky so it balanced out.

That must have been an amazing experience. Although the vid was a bit difficult to see as you mentioned and the tourguide hard to understand/hear at times, I found it to be an very special place to stick my paddle in the crystal clear rainbowtraut waters👍
Yeah, the eye adjust better to the dark than the camera does. Good thing the kayaks had LED lights otherwise I would have had no footage. I can just imagine how fin it would be to fish those waters. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.

WOW! the water level is so low. We went there before and the water was near the mouth of the cave. Nice video!
If I remember correctly, in your video y'all entered at the front entrance our entrance was up the hill a bit further at their rear entrance. I think two companies operate out of there now. I watched your video to get a feel on what to expect on this tour.

Can you recommend lodging in the area?
@@anthonybarbour43 We stayed at a hotel in Lexington which wasn't anything special. One thing I do recommend while you are in the area is checking out the Nada tunnel, it's a single lane car tunnel which is fascinating. I meant to do a video with it, but haven't gotten around to it. Also the Natural Bridge Skylift leads to some scenic views.

There is a cave in IN I would love to bring a boat through. The lower section had a guided tour which was fun. But what a great way to explore a mine. 😁👍

The cave is Blue Springs Cavern. It is close to Bedford and Mitchell Indiana.
Beginning last summer they started a kayak tour of sections of the cave that people formerly did not get to go in.
This is so cool! It looks a little intimidating, but I definitely want to do this! What if someone capsized while under there?! 😱 thanks for sharing!
I don't think capsizing happens to often and the guides are really very good and professional. The water would be cold, but I have confidence in the guides or at least the two we had.

This is I think a unique adventure. Good to see that you are required to wear the personal and safety equipments first. I'm just wondering how you manage to hold your camera while paddling? Inside the cave is a bit challenging experience considering that it's dark. I love watching the clear water with the big fish swimming beneath. Thanks for sharing your experience. Much Love 😍

Did they tell you how deep the water is ?
It varies depending on what part of the mine you are in. I think they said is was 30 feet deep in some places, but there were other places that were knee high.
Can you fish it?
Not that I'm aware of.
Was it safe to drink the water?
pouring through the ceiling it is 99.5% pure.
