  • If you ever wondered how to save some money on servicing your Yamaha outboard engine. This is video for you. I walk you through on how to exchange the engine oil and lower unit fluid. These services are required by Yamaha every 100hrs that you put on your engine to maintain it. Throughout the video we use genuine Yamaha parts which is what I would recommend anyone to use that attempts this on their own. Feel free to leave a comment as I wouldn't mind helping anyone with any questions they may have.

Nice video. I'm brand new to owning a boat and have the same motor. That said I've always been mechanically inclined and now that I've seen this I know I'll be doing all my own service. Thanks very much for posting!

Why is it my vent will not screw off. I feel the hex screw in there and it has tension but will not screw out.

How about using a Oil extractor pump and avoid having to remove the bottom covers? Yes/No??

You can do it that way. Here’s the issue I have with it. One you’ll never get all the oil out, two if you don’t remove those bolts periodically and grease them they will be prone to corrosion and be very unlikely to take off when you need to. The vacuum method is better for those that have to do it in the water that don’t have access to servicing on land.

Good video, did you warm up the engine before you let the oil out?
