Geez that it is big job for the first one of the season. That gasket definitely failed. Now I have never seen a torque wrench like that before, cool though. Still cold here as well. Thanks Dave. Stevo
Nice fix. It lives another season! Still cold in Flint Michigan too. I want to get back out there wrenching, but I need to clean the garage. Maybe I can get half organized.
I hear ya on taking a while to get back into the swing of things. Sometimes I think there's no swing left lol. I really like those single cylinder vertical commands and usually have one or two in stock for replacements for those crappy Courage singles. This was fun to follow along! Keep em coming! Zip~
Thank you Sean. You are right about these commands, they are a great engine. I still have a couple waiting to be used. We haven't even had a 60 degree day yet and this week looks like early March weather😞
@@BrucesShop hello Bruce. Yes spring is taking its sweet time eh. The torque wrench is from harbor freight, kind of a cheapy but I do like it. They are opening a harbor freight just 20 miles from me. I'm in trouble now 🤣
@@BrucesShop Heya Bruce! Yep, we warmed up for one day in March, just enough for my Crocus to pop out of the ground on the 15th of March then right back to Winter. My Daffodils have been shivering all month this month lol. Cheers my Good Friends! Sean~
How's she goin'? That head gasket was done eh!! Surprising it would even start with that big a leak. The compression must have been pretty low. I like your torque wrench. Great repair and it started right up!! Take care!!
Thanks Mike. Actually it didn't run , just backfired. You are right, the compression was non existent, I could spin it with no resistance with my hand. The torque wrench is a cheap thing from harbor freight but I think it works just fine for what I do eh. Have a great week buddy
Good to see you back in the shop. Tell him to those fins clean so it will run cooler. Did you find the oil leak. I have already done the spring maintenance on all my equipment we have been mowing for 3 weeks here.
Hi Bob. I would have liked to pressure wash it and look for a leak but it's just to cold yet. I told him to wash it up and see where the leak is and maybe I could fix it. Our grass is still brown. It'll probably be in May when I start mowing
Hello, Dave. Finally got my taxes done, had a good cry and took time to watch your latest. Next time you do one of these hydraulic valve units can you describe how they work and give your opinion on them? The idea of not having to adjust them is appealing. Must be a down side though or everyone would use them. Spring just won’t come, we’re having dogwood winter here. Good to see you posting again. John
Hi John. Getting our taxes done tomorrow then off to a funeral, boy what a sad day. Hydraulic lifters are much like a car. The lifter that pushes the push rod is hollow and has a spring and a cup inside of it. The spring takes the tension or slack out of it plus when it lifts it pushes oil through the push rod and up to the rocker arms and such. One drawback is a lifter could collapse but the odds are slim. You would have to tear into the engine to replace the lifter. Honestly I wish they were all Hydraulic. Take care buddy
Great repair and getting the mower up and running again. Very interesting torque instrument. Thanks for the video's.
Thank you. I like the torque wrench even though it is kind of a cheapy. Thanks for watching

Hi Stevo. I got that torque wrench at harbor freight. It's kinda rinky dink but I do like it.
Sweet repair buddy. EZ money for a man of your talents 😁 I have never seen 1 of those electronic torque thingymabobs before. That's pretty cool 😎
Thanks buddy. It's just a harbor freight cheapy

Yes I need to clean my garage floor from parking cars in there all winter. What a mess
Man - I'm behind watching videos. Good to see you back in the shop Dave👍 I'm yet to try taking the head of a Kohler with hydraulic lifters.
Thank you Claus. I'm way behind too

This machine looks like it has had a hard life since you repowered it. We always do the same with head bolts. Great job on the head gasket
Thanks Joseph. Yes it definitely has a hard life
