    So much interesting detail I had to hit replay in order to get the comparisons sorted out in my head. The watch that I found most appealing was the Laco, that just oozes nostalgia, but backs it up with the quality assurance that comes with the company Manufacturing history. A first grade presentation. Phil.

    While at the border of your $500 platinum limit, I would also recommend the Helson Observer or Squadron (I own a Squadron) and they're spec monsters with ETA2824 movements. Absolutely love my Squadron, it's light, comfortable and has great lume as well.
    Great video and some excellent choices! Thanks!

    Long Island Watch makes a nice pilot watch with sapphire, AR coating, amazing lume, Seiko NH hand winding/hacking movement, 42x12mm, nice thick leather band, unbranded dial, screw down crown, 100m water resistance, and all for $199 shipped. I also love the 40mm Geckota pilot watch, but more expensive.

    I couldn't quite remember which vlog I seen the Jack Mason, and just found it. I bought the quartz JM-A101 and it definitely has the best stock straps . Also the Lume is the best of any watch I own. It's the perfect size, and absolutely adore these watches. Now that I have this, I definitely want an automatic and since my daughter lives in Texas, and their showroom isn't to far from her, a trip their when they reopen is on my list of things to do. Thank you for introducing me to the brand

    Nice and informative review of budget Pilot's. I prefer mechanical my self and some look great at that price range. Seiko and Citizen are nice but those bracelet clasps....I mean, saw a Steinhart B type on Milanese with an amazing clasp, Helson and Zelos are micro brands but the finishing of their product is outstanding. Bracelets/clasps with extension and micro adjustment, solid sturdy. It's really bad for the high end Japanese watches to present to the market, especially now days, those tin can clasps. Some of their professional models cost from 1.5k to 4k ! Thank you for the review, keep up the good work showing folks budget solutions.

    Dave, two honorable mentions: first, the Svalbard Flieger EJ21 with an SII NH35, 316L case, flat sapphire, 42mm with 24mm lugs, is a sleeper at under 200 US. And while it's maybe not a pilot's watch, the Timex Expedition Field Chronograph is a true budget watch that has a minute track like a Type B Flieger as well as hands with subdials that remind one of a Cessna cockpit. ;-}

    The Gold and Platinum tiers are just awesome watches.
    I myself have shortlisted those two for purchase of my next watch (Avi-8 Flyboy Engineer vs. Laco Aachen 39mm, same as Augsburg but with a B-type dial).
    But now I just can't decide. The Flyboy has a gorgeous bracelet and a great aviation style design, the Laco boards heavy heritage, and you can see the movement at the back. The free engraving is also a nice addition. The Laco accessories store is also plenty of ideas. Too bad the Laco glass doesn't have any anti-reflective coating as standard (50€ option), while the Flyboy has it by default...
    Which one would you pick and why?
    Great reviews BTW.

    Commenters below suggested 5 or 6 different watches that the San Martin might be based on. Hard to say, since it's really just a generic three-hand military of a type ordered in millions by the US and UK armies.
    Many manufacturers made similar watches during WWII.
    But mostly in chromed steel, rather than bronze, and more likely 34 or 35mm than 42.

    I'd like to recommend a column wheeled auto chronograph called the Ticino BF-109, B-Uhr styled and runs a 7750 clone. Sniped it for $200 but buy it now is $260, love the12 hour chronograph, hate the thickness and it does take knocks occasionally.

    That watch winder drives me nuts. Gravity pulls down (vertical). For the rotor to benefit most, the watch should spin 90 degrees from vertical. That thing of yours looks to be only 20 degrees from vertical. Maybe a deck of cards under the backside. Now you can try reducing the rotation count setting.

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  4 роки тому +1

      I think they both would work equally well, it really comes down to whether you like smaller more comfortable watches, or watches with a little more wrist presence. Another consideration is the 39mm comes on an 18mm strap, which is a little harder to replace if you wanted to try different straps out.
