@@fitzroysimpson8645 I don’t have a television and last watch television in 2006. Don’t miss anything & going anywhere where a tv is loud or blaring gives me a migraine 🤯
Brilliant comment, perhaps even more so than you realise. The issue here is that Dan does the video himself with his own in house editor/team. TV would take Dan's story, and edit the shit out of it, leave us asking many questions, also showing us the same same footage over and over again to drive suspense. This guys makes a 20 minute documentary with 20 minutes of video, if this was a TV production it would be 12minutes of actual video footage. Also, Dan and his editor/team know their industry, not some TV production team and editors who always seem to show the wrong bits, it is almost like they don't understand their audiences. I watch things like Gold Rush and Big Timber, the camera crew on Big Timber are shocking, they are always zoomed in too far so you cannot get context or a proper view of what is going on!
To be fair, Top Gear looked at passenger transport (they mostly ignore freight). In one case (the long haul from London to Edinburgh) they raced a steam train against a car and a motorcycle (and those were models from 1949 to make it "fair" to the steam train). The car won that one by a bare 10 minutes in front of the train, but they ignored the fact that the car was a two-seater and the motorcycle even just a one-seater, while the train was, well, a train, with hundreds of seats. In the other race, across London, they had car/bicycle/boat,/public transit and funny enough the bicycle won that one. To make the train win this race however the distance should have been a bit further, because (as is being mentioned) resting times for the truck would wreak havoc with its better times compared to the train, as would having to drive at different times of the day. But I also like the points being made, volume and fuel consumption make the train the winner anyway, because just one of these trains has to be compared to 75 trips with the tipper, and given that the tipper uses six times as much fuel as the train, the difference really gets ridiculous.
Great Video, as a GB Railfreight driver that works these trains out of grain, it was fascinating to see the supply chain from the customers point of view.
Really nice of GBRf and Aggregate Industries to work with you on this, it’s a great insight into the logistics of your industry, in a way of presenting it that’s quite fresh!
Ok I'm officially hooked on Ashville and I've never been this early. Awesome job, Ashville Team. Even 1 minute ahead of schedule is actually good for rail freight.
Another really interesting video. I love the balanced views at the end where you explain everything so succinctly about the pros and cons of transporting aggregates between road and rail
How about your least powerful tipper vs the most powerful tipper in the exact same scenarios to see if more HP really does make a difference in your day to day costs/operation (i.e. Fuel consumption, driving hours/time to get to and from jobs/tips and how much time vs consumption/cost differences they have between them)
@Aloy @Topcat I drive for a living also, so I know it "does" but I thought it would be interesting to see how much of a difference it makes overall not just in raw speed/acceleration
@@Unknown_Ooh indeed all American main line locomotives from steam to diesel are VERY large. Thats why no American that's at average height, weight and it width are able to do tours on the British railway back in the old days.

I think it´s really nice that you, as a truck driver, stays neutral and love the train at the end of the video. It´s just a great comparison. Also, congrats on the video quality. Definitely stayed watching bc of the nice frames and shots!
I can tell you now, if GBRf swapped the 66 for that Electro-diesel* Class 73 - they'd be mad lads to do so, it would be a stupid move, but us enthusiasts would be dead happy with the change! You'd win for sure, but that loco is far better than a 66 to enthusiasts (it's nowhere near as powerful as the 66 but as a heritage loco we love it more for its character and rarity)
this was brill, its amazing how efficient the train was compared to the truck, too the truck was running at speed not sat in traffic idling and wasting fuel
Dope video bringing light to the railroad industry and the importance of and relevance trains have on our current way of life, which most of us take for granted. Watching this video brought greater sense of appreciation for the railroad industry and the work it does. I definitely learned something watching this video.
As a train driver who likes trucks it’s great to see this comparison. I’ve seen truck and train fans argue over which is better at moving goods and the answer is both. They both have benefits and negatives.
Brilliant video Dan. Great insight and especially for me as I work in the rail industry. Big thank you to all involved. Keep up the great work. Thank you again!
You're SERIOUS. Bonus video for the weekend. Beautifully put together. You inspire me weekly with your business acumen. My 9yrs son is now into watching your video. Keep on inspiring🙏
Really enjoyed watching this, Also the 0.9L of diesel used by the train is Red diesel, where as the tipper is on white.... so there's at least 80P of difference between the type of fuel aswell.... overall great video and the editing team have done a awesome job as always.... you wouldn't see Mr O'Donovan getting up at that time with his fake Wilson to do this 🤣🤣🤣
The advantage with that facility being on the rail network is that trains with ballast can go directly into rail project sites where rails have been laid and then they use machines to lay out the ballast at the sites so the distance the machines need to travel can be reduced significantly depending on the site location! Of course it also allows for more ballast to be transported to the sites in single trips! :)
I also live locally. Love seeing a Ashville lorry “on the road again”. I saw the grab on the m40 at Denham the other day. Also saw an Ashvilla (yes, similar name) grab working next to the m4 near j6 clearing the widening depot.
One of the best videos you guys have done! You should be proud. You've highlighted some key points that shouldnt be ignored. Amazing video credit to everyone involved!!
Nice one Dan, it puts things into perspective, The protest groups etc will say how much fuel trains burn and how that’s not good for the planet, but actually the alternative option is far worse. Using the train enables less lorries travelling large distances burning fuel, it keeps costs down for the consumer, it keeps the construction industry moving and is gentler on the planet. With the trains being upgraded to electric, this again will reduce the carbon emissions (whether electric is the answer is another story) either way it shows that the construction industry is leading when it comes to reducing its carbon footprint. Very educational yet fun to watch 👍
wow Daniel the production levels in this are serious!! very informative regarding the train capacity aswell. I'm a class 1 and the tonnage moving around the track is insane. wish you and the team well buddy💪💪👊
Daniel OWNs the construction industry, not just domestically but internationally. I have never watched so much construction content until he came about. I might change professions
Just scrolling through looking for some random videos... And I found a golden one! Amazing work, editing, data, and the information we got is very nice! Keep it up!
On a shortline railroad near me, (track owned by the state of Maine, leased to railroads), one industry started shipping by rail instead of truck. (Cost effective) and another started not only exporting their material, but importing petroleum Coke, their fuel. There's even a possibility of tourist passenger service coming back. Now there are four industries over 56 miles of track, with 5 different types of loads.
I see their trucks everywhere, I remember watching their 1st ever video and seeing Daniels yellow Discovery on the M25 a few times not knowing who's it was lol

Wow did not know how cost effective train locomotives were. A layman would just calculate the distance and amount of fuel consumed without factoring the tonnage. Thanks for the video. Very informative.👍👍👍
This was brilliant, definitely one of your best videos. It must have taken some serious planning and organizing. Well done and thanks to everyone involved.
wow the figures at the end was just mind blowing, if you intend bulk deliveries the train is the kiddie for sure, got to love the sound of the class 66 loco, i drive them regular on TS22 Simulator. can imagine if the 66 had an open road like the truck did, it ought to have beaten you. alas it had tons of other traffic to hold it up around London so they def put the 66 into passing loops, so passenger services can pass it. also the maxV for that loco (train) is 60 mph even if it was found on the east coast high speed line, that is its maximum speed all the same. was great to see your attempt, would love to see this done in aus where the tracks and roads run side by side for hundreds of miles, not forgetting even their freight will be no faster than 62 mph, some of their trains are in multi kilometre lengths and travel thousands of miles. brilliant video btw really enjoyed it.
