How did they both like this movie? I think EVERY sitcom in the 60s and 70s had an episode where the star of the show gets drafted.

Saw it with a friend, and thought it was okay. It did get a little too serious towards the end, otherwise a good look someone who finds themselves.

I like these for some reason, maybe cause I grew up with them on TV, but frankly they were both horrible critics who panned so many fantastic movies based on their own personal bias and taste. They should be around today and see what they would have to offer.
I still enjoy hearing their reviews for some reason, probably because they are such likeable people in many ways, and at the time it was the only way you could see these types of previews.
The things they said however about great movies like, The Fog, The Thing, Rocky, Terminator, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, were pure travesty's of justice and they damaged some wonderful movies by genius directors with their often horrible biased reviews.
I still kind of miss them though, which is the odd thing.
Sometimes they say some good things that I like, and surprise me by liking good movies that I thought they would not like, but to say that "The Fog" was not scary is an outrage, for example.

Private Benjamin is ok but I don't think it has aged well. It's just not as funny on repeat viewings. The following years misfit in the Army comedy Stripes with Bill Murray, I feel has aged better. It is also an imperfect film that drags a bit in its last act but aside from that I feel the humor ages better, and a great supporting performance from Warren Oates as the drill seargent gives it a lot of merit. No disrespect to Goldie Hawn or the late Eileen Brennan Private Benjamin is not a bad film by any means, I just feel Stripes is superior in my honest, humble opinion.

I like PRIVATE BENJAMIN, but it suffers from being 2 movies in one...the 1st act is hilarious then she gets transferred overseas and the movie just dips big time. In my opinion though (as great a comedic actor as Bill Murray is) STRIPES is a great movie for it's time but doesn't hold up 40yrs later and neither movie is realistic (being a former ARMY man myself)...but if I had to choose it would be (the 1st half of...)PB over (the entire movie) STRIPES. Honestly 2 better military comedies that hold up better is the way superior MASH or (the underrated) BUFFALO SOLDIERS with Joaquin Phoenix.

@@bigbabysld MASH is great. I am amazed how many people forgot it was a movie before it was a show. I actually prefer a few actors in the movie in their parts over the TV show but I do love the show as well.

Yea, I felt the same. Tried to watch it at 2020 and it just bored me so.
Then I watched Stripes, it’s a way better film, more action sequences, more comedies and more characters development

I enjoyed Private Benjamin more although as everyone points out, it peters out once she leaves the Army Base and has the Romance
Stripes was ok , not bad, not great

If they remade this movie, I think that either Katy Perry or Maggie Grace should play her!

(6:32) "Stardust Memories" is a great film. Ebert is implying that "Private Benjamin" is better than "Stardust Memories." I like both films, but I think "Stardust Memories" is superior.

Can't get over how fake Ebert's laugh is. I never noticed it before but when you watch these Sneak Preview videos all in a row, it's pretty conspicuous. He really was a salesman.

Tuffy Badass He probably had to do 5 takes, the first take had the genuine laugh. Ebert is more interested in authentic criticism than passing a laugh off as real.
