China and perhaps Asia in general surely has a misconception regarding so-called “western” belief. I for one have always held China in high regard. Not the government, but the people. With regards to innovation, especially where containerized shipping is concerned, yes, this technology and the philosophy behind it was born in the USA. The first shipping container was invented and patented in 1956 by an American named Malcolm Mc Lean. Mc Lean was not an ocean shipper, but was a trucker and by 1956 he owned the largest trucking fleet in the South and the fifth largest trucking company in all the United States.
Just think of all the plastic junk in these containers that we keep buying. When I stop by a dollar store I just shake my head in disbelief of isle after isle of nothing but junk.
Amazing considering just 40 years ago China was an agricultural backwater. If they upgrade their military like they have their trade and economy they will be the worlds top military power.
@pete chau: Over emphasizing the military just because the US and the UK and other powers have done so is a bad idea. The US outspends all of its enemies and friends combined yet is leaders still sell fear to the population, and the military industrial complex makes insatiable demands which are always met, while infrastructure, R&D, and schools beg for chump change.
The military industry creates very limited employment, and if it is not for invading other countries, there is limited funding for troops and equipment used to defend homeland security. China's annual military expenditure accounts for 1.7% of the total GDP, or 230 billion US dollars, which is equivalent to 200 yuan/30 US dollars per person of 1.4 billion Chinese. A large amount of investment in China is in infrastructure construction. Private enterprises have no ability to improve the environment. The government invests in improving the environment to create investment opportunities. More enterprises can create more jobs, expand the economy, and benefit everyone. China will not spend big money on defense unless necessary, but it is still the second largest military spender in the world.
@@dpeasehead Exactly! I think China can do such amazing developments and gigantic projects partly because they DON'T try to lead the world in Military activity! And to some extent they are driven to make a larger investment than they would do, if we weren't pushing it constantly. I know that's a common enough thought! To their point of view I think military expenses might be a big waste, compared to (say) another titanic port, rail line, UHV electric transmission line, building new cities (!), and so many other astonishing things that give a social dividend! WE don't care about "general prosperity", "balanced development", "real economy", "co-ordination", and many other things that are clearly CENTRAL to the advance of China. So we are constantly surprised and alarmed at the rapid advance of China, because we just can't believe that a government would DO what it says it's going to do! There's no SECRET, but there are principles at work that are invisible to us no matter how much anyone tries to explain them.

China is getting richer because of automation not because of cheap labor. We need more automation for the world. We can have richer and peacefull world for everyone.
Fully automatic docks are the trend of the future, but at the social level it will bring unemployment of traditional dockworkers, so the United States is very cautious, this is not a technical issue, it is a political issue. The dock loading and unloading business on the east and west coasts of the United States is subject to labor union organizations, which is inefficient, and the relationship between labor and management is tense. Qingdao Port is the first model to realize unmanned wharf in China. In recent years, Shanghai Yangshan Port, Shenzhen Yantian Port, Guangzhou Huangpu Port and Ningbo Port are all undergoing automation transformation. Therefore, among the top ten container throughput terminals in the world, China has seven terminals ranked high.
My terminal has greater efficiency and productivity than the fully automated port that also operates in my city. We are not one bit automated. Automation is not about productivity, it's about cost cutting. Unionised workforces demand decent pay and conditions. Without them you will suffer at the hands of your employer who seeks to play on your insecurities and pay you as little as possible, even below the poverty line if you accept it. Every worker should be in a Union. Automation means more unemployment and that's why governments who depend on tax dollars are reluctant to fully support automation. Instead of tax money coming in, they'll be paying out social security and welfare.
yes, as noted elsewhere, should you be so happy about it? we also have to take into account ourselves, as well as nature and our next generation. let's make good use of that progress, and keep thinking about the future! Healthy and friendly greetings from the Netherlands! Rob
Just imagine the U.S as now banns the technological productions to the U.S that are from China (Huawei) for example You see how china is more advance when it comes to technology. And most countries relies or learn from china about tecnology .
The problem is their unions. They have gotten too greedy and expensive. I’m mainly talking about Long Beach/LA port. The crane drivers get paid around $250,000 per year and only works 4 hour days - and get paid for the full 8 hours. Union rule. Their reason is fatigue will lead to accidents and death. So terminal owners have to pay $1 million per day per crane for 16 hours day. The other 8 hours of down time is for shift changes and maintenance. These automated terminal have been up and running for at least 2 decades now. And they only need 2 hours a day of down time for maintenance. Plus their is no down time for shift change, operator breaks, once a month stop work union meetings, and union/labor strikes. It’s not the lack of drivers, it’s also the union that makes it difficult for drivers to come in and pick up these containers. 20 years ago, a single driver can come in and out of port 4 times a day. Now because of the appointment system and mandated 10 hours working day, they can only pick up 1 container per day. So drivers don’t feel motivated to work. During the pandemic, there was close to 200 ships waiting outside the harbor to get in. Only 1 terminal in Long Beach operated as normal. That’s because they were automated. An average ship berthing and departing time was 2-3 days. While other terminals were operating under pandemic restrictions took 2 to 3 weeks per vessel. That why the backlog of vessels waiting outside the harbor. I’m all for protecting jobs, but at what costs?
@@thanhtong2281 why are US unions so weird. I work at a port in the UK and we are unionised but we also work and work damn hard. All breaks are staggered so the port stops only at shift change. Shift changeover takes about 10 minutes. All work is monitored and if you arent working efficiently you get a meeting with a supervisor. It seems the US is really anti-union but when they are unionised they take it to the extreme and want loads of pay for little work.
This is your American culture. Unionised or not most Americans are lazy. The laziest are the billionaires that sit around watching others work for them. Everyone want the easy life in America that's why you are the fattest nation with chronic health problems everywhere.

Just imagine the U.S as now banns the technological productions to the U.S that are from China (Huawei) for example
You see how china is more advance when it comes to technology.
And most countries relies or learn from china about tecnology .

Sounds like being hired and advertized by chinese foreign office.
All of the American Terminals should be 100% automated. The the long shorman will appreciate their jobs and not be so rude amd privileged.
Thanks so much for sharing.
Fantastic. Just unthinkable and also looks ghostly as there are no human beings.
My favorite UA-camrs are Nathan Rich and Richard Aguilar! Give them a like!
Nathan exposed serpentza as a fraud and liar: ua-cam.com/video/GRqcA04FtmM/v-deo.html
This made me a subscriber of Richard:ua-cam.com/video/qzvTE6uOIWs/v-deo.html
This would make the US employment rate go down. CAN'T TOUCH this!!!
Best

Interesting video. Who fixes the equipment when it breaks down?
Could you please not use red writing as people who are colour blind or partially so, cannot read the words.
Hint: You already said its Automated, so it will operate Automatically, you don't have to explain that again.
AMAZING CHINA
Hmm, automation when you have a population exceeding 1.5billion.
