You may notice some black lines on the screen as the notes intensify. This is nothing to do with the game and was the fault of my capture card. I seem to remember it doing something similar during my Northgard review months back and, annoyingly, it decided to do it again here. Apologies. Glen
You guys always seem to keep an open mind when it comes to whatever games you are covering on your channel, which i always appreciate. Keep up the great reviews :)
I’m probably one of the biggest Vocaloid fans out there - and I’m stoked that you guys covered this game even though it’s not your usual bag. I’ve already dropped dozens of hours on the Japanese version of this game and am happily doing it all over again for the US version. Cheers guys!!!
Hatsune Miku and the Vocaloids aren’t for everyone. But it’s nice to see first timers playing the game and giving their honest opinion on it. If it’s not your thing, that’s fine. But it is a pretty fun game! I’m just happy we finally got it on the Switch and I can take it on the go. Great review!😁
Thanks Glen! Good Effort! I live in Taiwan. This is a J-pop phenomenon, where she’s celebrated like a real idol. Incredible value if your into J-pop. This is a juggernaut of a title, and absolute perfection, for it’s intended audience. I’m not a huge fan of the music, personally. Watching Glen review this, was like watching a Japanese reviewer, in all earnestness and to his best ability, review Football Manager.
+Peter Clark Haha, thanks Peter. Yeah, this was a tough one to review for sure. I had a look into the phenomenon that is these Vocaloid characters whilst preparing the review. I watched videos of stage concerts with a Hatsune Miku hologram, it was quite incredible. Right, if anyone needs me I'll be playing football manager. Glen
Just a bit of added context for anybody familiar with the series - aside from the addition of Mix Mode and the ten new songs, as well as the re-stylized character models, this is essentially a port of the Project Diva Future Tone game on PS4, which is itself a port of an arcade game. The Arcade Mode controls match that, rather than the older portable Project Diva games, and the menus are exactly the same. However, while the full version of Future Tone on PS4 has I believe over 300 songs, this one has considerably less. I will say the cell-shaded character models in this one look infinitely better than the horrifying plastic doll-looking models from Future Tone.
Honestly a pretty challenging game just from the demo alone. I cant even imagine what the other songs would be like. The thing, that stops me is the pricing, its fair, but there is always other games with less price sorta say. Anyhow nice review!
This was a very fair review the only thing I would add is something a new player may not appreciate as much. There is an option to change the prompts to the playstation buttons.(triangle circle square X) this is a big deal becuase this series lived on the playstation and even the arcade versions use these prompts. So players who might like this as a portable option to the ps4 games can easily pick this 1 up.

I think you guys did a great job at reviewing this game even though you haven't played the other games or enjoy the music much and I like that you guys did research on it as well. I've played a bit of Future Tone on PS4 and I actually love the new Mix Mode in this one, I've been playing it more then Arcade. I'm not sure how you've been having trouble with the Joy Con's because for me they work great.
Well.... I appreciate your courage to test such a game as it is accessible only to a special interest group. Otherwise keep on switching. Great channel!
I've only ever played the Project Diva games on PSP and have never played games after them until this game came out on Nintendo Switch. The drastic change in difficulty between the PSP games and this one gave me whiplash! This game has turned into an absolute monster when it comes to difficulty!
-Not enough new content for veterans If anything, most veterans seem a bit perturbed by the fact that more of the classic songs didn't make it in. Especially since MegaMix is a modified port of the PS4 version which has 220+ song for the same $60 price tag. While new stuff is always welcome, personally I wish they'd show a bit more love to the Diva X songs since they're some of the best in the franchise, there just wasn't enough of them and they were locked behind a godawful story mode.
Future tone on ps4 is the ultimate celebration of the series 224 songs in the base game and 238 with all the dlc, also the new songs are coming to future tone so really the appeal for mega mix for future tone owners is the handheld mode as future tone is Just superior in every way and the dlc is also basically are all future tone base game songs
The only other big one is the graphical style, and I definitely prefer the Cel shaded anime asthetic of Megamix over the porcelain doll look that Future Tone has.
I’m into a bit of J-pop but admit I know very little a life vocaloid and Hatsune Miku. Very interesting to hear the perspective of someone who previously knew little also. I’d say despite the fact that it could be great I’d give it a miss as it seems risky but hey there’s a demo! I think this particular kind of title with a somewhat more niche genre and definitely more niche subject matter really needs a demo. I’ll have to check it out and see what the go is. Honestly I really wasn’t sure what to expect going into this review (who would do it, what kind of reaction would they have?) but as always Glen you’ve given it a really honest go and taken it seriously. These reviews have come such a long way mate you both just keep improving!!! Top stuff.
Liking the music being a major criteria, i won't take it. You guys tho are awesome for reviewing it for people who are into it. just a tip that worked for me in mix mode, hold the joycons with the shoulder buttons facing up and have the joy con slightly tilted to the side (in a way thats comfortable when resting your wrists) but yeah holding them upright just hurts and makes the response weird so tilting them a bit outward fixed the problem for me!
how many songs does the base game come with on nintendo? Not the 60$ bundle ( hatsune miku: project diva mega mix mega pack). Im looking to buy the 40$ game (hatsune miku: project dive mega mix) on the switch, but i just wanna know how many songs it comes with. also im not talking about the seperate bundles!

I tried every conceivable way and it just didn't work very well. Holding it the way you suggested meant that it wouldn't tilt to the left at all.
