My guess ? Cards are prepared for riffle shuffle. Since they’re already in sections the cutting is a facade. Second showcase the cards are now mixed up but can still be cut back to the original position after the first riffle shuffle therefore you can undo it by riffle shuffling again and the last split off is to section it off to the top :b.
