The only reason I don't call Spidey "Peter" is cuz Starlord exists. Most of the time it's really just cuz it's shorter and more gameplay friendly though, the affection is a bonus.
A lot of people also call scarlet witch Wanda, because they never really established she was the scarlet witch up until multiverse of madness so they call her by her name.
It's just a simple reason that Winter Soldier is mouthful and quite long to type. The same reason people call Scarlet Witch, Wanda; and Mr. Fantastic, Reed.
I think I'm the only one who calls the punisher frank, I've just heard so many character interactions where he gets called frank. Like to me it's not "oh no punisher ult" it's "Frank with the ult" 😂

Soldier is a weird callout cause of overwatch and a few of the characters are soldiers in this game, no one is gonna say winter cause winter isn’t the main purpose of bucky’s code name. Also Bucky is probably uncomfortable with the name anyway since that was the part of his life where he was stripped of his memories and tortured relentlessly
Everyone saying "Winter Soldier" would make voice lines unnecessarily longer, I know it isn't much more but condensing voice lines as much as possible to avoid audio clutter is important.
For me, it’s just using the fewest amount of syllables as possible. Bucky has half as many as Winter Soldier does. I guess “Steve” or “Cap” could go either way. I was calling him Bucky to my friends and one of them was genuinely confused like “Who??” And because I couldn’t think of the winter solder I had to be like “Cap’s friend!”
He’s just been called Bucky longer than Winter Soldier in the MCU. He was Winter Soldier in one movie and then was Bucky in everything else even Falcon and The Winter Soldier he’s still called Bucky. I can’t recall anyone really referring to him as The Winter Soldier I’m sure someone did but 90% of the time he’s just Bucky
probably because "soldier" has become attached to the sort of generic fps character bcus of Soldier:76, so if you call out "soldier" when talking abt a bucky it feels wrong, and probably throws newbies because the punisher is that archetype. so we call him bucky because thats bucky. he's not a soldier, he's bucky
