    This video popped up in my feed as I was cooking lentil and potato soup. I feel fortunate that I was raised by my grandmother who raised me on a staple of "beans, greens, and taters". Sure, we had the occasional fried chicken or pork chop, but being raised on a diet of mostly beans, leafy greens, potatoes, and fresh vegetables made it so much easier to go WFPB as an adult. I imagine the transition is much harder for anyone who grew up eating a lot of processed junk.

      Thank you. Will check out Dr. Greger and Mic the Vegan on lectins. In parallel, will ask for a continuous glucose monitor from my primary care physician. Thank you for your channel including the kidney doctor jokes.

    Basically it is always the same. When you eat the whole foods without all the dressings, oils, sugars, coatings, processing it is good for you. In stead of eating bread for example I steam whole wheat grains and mix it with nuts and seeds. I steam potatoes and eat them with just some salt and pepper.

    Thanks for presenting facts! None of the macros are "evil" or our "enemy". None of the macros are purely carbs, fats, or proteins, but rather a combination of macros. For example even white rice has protein.

    Hi Dr thank you for all the explanations. It is very helpful. What would you advise to eat for kidney leaking protein and small amount of blood in the urine and also suffer from high blood pressure and diabetic. Is there any treatment for the leaking of protein in the urine. Thank you.

      Anytime you have blood and protein in the urine, its very important to get a workup done. Usually, we need to do a kidney biopsy to make sure there isn't any serious condition.

    Cook potatoes the day before, keep them in fridge to next day, at least 12 hours, reheat and consume with fat like butter or cheese, any type of fat. This prevent insulin, blood sugar spike. I love eating cold cooked potatoes with full fat plain yogurt that tastes like sour cream. Use full fat dairy, not low fat

    There is one heart doctor who always talks about lectins in beans and some beans, such as the red beans you show, according to him, cannot be made lectin free. Maybe potatoes are low in lectins or can be made lectin free from slicing them and then washing them overnight. Do you know if the study talks about inflammation in the groups (from the lectins)?

      Nutritionfacts (Dr. Michael Greger) and Mic the Vegan both have videos about Dr. Gundry and lectins. I'd recommend checking out those.

    As a diabetic I can not eat potatoes . When I do spike my sugar in any amount . Even potatoes in soup or other dishes.
    I have tried. Beans are ok. But eat in portion size such as 1/2 cups.
    I eat beans with green vegetables or salad, not on their on.

      That is old way of thinking. Boil potatoes and cool in the fridge and then warm up and eat. Creates resistant starch. I've lost weight with lots of potatoes and many have reversed their type 2 diabetes. Google Dr. Greger, Andrew Taylor, Dr. McDougall 'Starch Solution'

    Can I eat Sweet Potatoes if prone to kidney stones?

    • @SELFPrinciple
      @SELFPrinciple  Рік тому +7

      The short answer is usually yes as long as you are doing all the other things to prevent stones. The long answer is more complicated. You have to know what type of stone, are you spilling too much oxalate, are you drinking 2-3 liters of fluids, are you minimizing other stone risk factors. With stones, it’s not one thing but a series of things to be careful of.

    French fries... only if oil is added. Air fry them and they are no different.

      But if you air fry you increase cancer causing chemical in starches. If you microwave it will not do that cause method of heating different. Check it out.
