Great interview! Thank you...and I need to add a big thank you to Mrs. Anne Morrison for this beautiful work and for keeping us fans learning and appreciating Jim's life and works.
This is a great interview. It s very rare but great to have Anne speaking about her brother, Jim Morrison, one of the greatest voices in music history. Thank you!
I'm lucky, like Jim, in that I have been blessed with a wonderful sister like Anne. What Anne has done here warms my heart and if I ever had the chance to meet her I would thank her for everything. I am planning on getting the book and opening yet another world that Jim created. Thrilled to see this happening!
Anne, thank you so much for your time and effort to allow more of Jim’s writings to be made available to the public and his fans. I got my copy of The Collected Works on 2/1/2023. I discovered Jim and The Doors while in college in the mid 1990s. Been a fan since. THANK YOU!
Excellent interview. Thank you, Anne, we'll done. When that first album came out, I was hooked, overwhelmed, a fan. Your brother was certainly a comet. Lasting impact. Thanks, again.
I hope Ms. Morrison-Chewning can read these words. For many years I have dedicated myself to studying the cultural, intellectual & poetic heritage of JDM. I did it in complete autonomy and solitude, w/ what was available, a lot of patience & my skills. The attraction that I felt vaguely as a young girl, towards those poetic verses, turned into a journey that changed the course of my life, which profoundly influenced my thinking, my ethics, my actions. I am one of those people who feel connected w/ Jim the poet & the human being; unlike what millions of other people in the world dream of, my greatest desire is to find myself as close as possible to the words of JM, for the disruptive force that I feel coming from them. I am lucky, because it is a desire that not even death has made impossible. Friends laugh because jokingly, but not too much, I say that when I reach retirement age (not long time ...), I will apply for the custody and care of the "Jim Morrison Estate" for the rest of my life , at the cost of sleeping in that vault. Especially the study of his handwriting is (would be ...) essential. I feel that not even this book has been able to fulfill the role of making Jim's poetic thought more understandable; if anything, as far as I'm concerned, it has complicated it. Since I started by trying to reconstruct Jim's literary, poetic & artistic background, I was able to approach his writings in a way that later proved to be successful, managing to recognize his mental castle w/ sufficient clarity, made up of complex & intimate symbolic architectures. Or rather: the sacred place of his imagination, the place where he felt safe and comfortable w/ himself. So I ask Ms Morrison, or whoever has the power, to consider editing a photostatic edition of ALL the notebooks (the brief hint she made here opens the doors to my hopes!) , in order to give people of good will like me the opportunity to get even closer to Jim the poet & the human being. All the periods, all the commas, all the spaces, all the deletions, all the blank pages: everything is of the utmost importance to understand. Of course, given the exceptional nature of the man in question, from the point of view of sensitivity & IQ, this importance also transcends poetic value. I understand well the restraint w/ which editors approach the private writings of a loved one, asking themselves whether certain things were written to be published, if that is their final form, if it is right to share the intimate, private thoughts of a poet. .. Well: even if I understand it, I go back to saying that it would be of fundamental importance to be able to analyze the entire process. This book is beautiful but you understand, you feel, that some things are missing, that others are not in the correct order ... I hope not to appear presumptuous. I say this w/ all the love I can get. A love that has lasted for thirty years. A love that I am committed to sharing with anyone interested in meeting James Douglas Morrison, finally. I conclude by thanking for this interview & for every other interview that Ms Morrison has granted and will grant. The idea of him, the only one standing in a theater full of people sitting while playing the anthem ... that's why I love James D. Morrison! I will carry this image forever in my heart. Thank you for your time.
Varga is a damn good interviewer. Anne is difficult to divulge info, probably due to shyness?? “Pony Express” was one of Jim’s early childhood poems. Kudos to the newspaperman. Anne is a sweet sister. Jim would be proud.
SO MANY YEARS HAVE GONE BY. WHY HASNT THE FAMILY REQUESTED AN AUTOPSY BE PERFORMED ON JIM MORRISON TO FIND OUT WHAT HE DIED FROM? THIS IS SO STRANGE. HIS GIRLFRIEND ALSO DIED AND I WONDER WHETHER ANY INVESTIGATION WAS PERFORMED ON HER DEATH OR EVEN AN AUTOPSY.
Pamela Courson was a heroin addict and died of an overdose, there's nothing to investigate. Now, in the case of Morrison, there are different accounts of his death and it's VERY sketchy that he was buried quickly and before his family even knew he was dead!!!
Thanks, Anne. And the quote you were thinking of: "In that year there was an intense visitation of energy. I left school & went down to the beach to live. I slept on a roof. At night the moon became a woman's face. I met the Spirit of Music."
The only thing about this interview is: it seems that Varga's questions betray an almost complete lack of knowledge about Morrison, or even of the period. J.M. became a household name over those many decades since. And the most he can come up with is, "...if not a hippie, he certainly lived during that counter-cultural period". Is that a summation of the man? He actually SAW The Doors perform live in Summer '68. I don't know, perhaps I'm speaking with too critical a tongue. It just seems as though he's uninformed. And the book "would be difficult to read as it's over 600 pages"?? This coming from a journalist? Morrison was still in high school when he read Ulysses, as well Oscar Levy' s The Complete Works of Nietzsche. Add 3-400 and 3-4000 more pages, respectively, good sir.
Too bad Jim was filled with demons. Drunk and also mean when drunk. I like some of the music but always think what a waste of a human. Not a good person to know really. Would he of ever gone down that road if not a rock star? who knows. I know a few drunks who never stopped all of their lives. Many dui's etc.
Anne seems like such a sweet heart. I'm a huge Doors fan. It's so cool she is keeping the true spirit of Jim alive. God bless you Anne!!
Thanks Anne. I loved the book you done a great thing with compiling this book. I always pop in and say hello to Jim when I'm over in April. .
Anne, you did a good thing here with The Collected Works. Jim was much more than a rock star.
I enjoy all interviews that shed even more insight into such an interesting human being as Jim Morrison.

Thank you, Anne! Another great book to add to my collection. I can never get too much of The Doors.

Excellent and informative! Thanks!..
The whole Morrison family is smart and hansom. Anne too inherited the Morrison smarts, kindness and good looks.
I bought this book and it is very nice well put together! Jim works in this book is fabulous. I am a Doors fan but love the poetry of Jim!
Thank you so much Anne

Great interview.

He died of abuse of his body and od'd on strong heroin that's the fact.
Pamela Courson was a heroin addict and died of an overdose, there's nothing to investigate. Now, in the case of Morrison, there are different accounts of his death and it's VERY sketchy that he was buried quickly and before his family even knew he was dead!!!
So cool...
Lovely.
No double Jim is one of the greatest songwriter, ever!
Thanks!
Thanks, Anne.

Are you Jim Morrison reincarnated?
@@awaretenacious Not sure why you would ask such a question.
@@awaretenacious Could you tell me why you asked this? Genuinely curious.

THE FAMILY TOOK MOST OF JIM MORRISON'S ASSETS EVEN WHEN JIM MORRISON NEVER CONSIDERED THEM FAMILY.
