My brother had a copy of Mad in the late 70's that had the satire of Planet of the Apes. The title illustration blew my 11 yro mind. Looked at that thing for hours, the line work, the detail in the hands, hair, water and rocket ship... I wanted to draw like that! Mort must have made a lot of kids around the world pick up a pen and pencil and start drawing. One of the most influential artists ever.
Drucker is what I consider a true National Treasure. His influence on American culture is understated and the near idolization by so many is justified. He very aptly conveyed New York City wit in a visual way with the icing on top being his EXTRAORDINARY caricature and illustration skills! I purchased this movie when it first aired some years back and I loved it! My only negative would be that it didn't seem long enough. That's not to say it was short on time (it was about 2 hours if I recall) but I just wanted MORE on such a reclusive individual. Drucker is candid in a very gentlemanly way and even comes across as a bit self-deprecating and oblivious to his importance in the art world. As a political cartoonist myself (I do it for stress relief and the occasional social media rant-and not as a business or professional.), EVERYONE wanted to be Mr. Drucker-and still do. His contribution to visual satire is vast.
While everyone in my school where dreaming of meeting Michael Jordan or Bon Jovi, Mort Drucker was and always have been my HERO!!! I still dream of shaking his hand and say thank you for inspiring me with his skills!!
Mort is up there with the greats. A living legend who can catch a likeness and even get the hand gestures and pose spot on every time with just a few deft touches of the dip pen
There are lots "like" Mort but he really invented caricature art and his smooth lines he does for wrinkles on faces are unmatched. i always need to see his work to get re-inspired. I'm a Fed. Courtroom Sketch Artist.
R.I.P. to one of the greats, as well as one of my childhood heroes, someone who supplied me with years of joy as a burgeoning delinquent. 😉 I salute you sir!
Inspired me at 12 to draw . Did a pretty good cartoon imitation of his style as a kid, for the Movie “ Camelot”..I called ‘Ham-a lot”. Loved Mad magazine.
does the film focues mostly on Mort's life/biography/background, with only occasional glimpses of his technique/ him drawing? Or is it a balance between both?
A genius-master, funnnnyyy too! He and Don Martin *rule*.. Did any of you MAD guys ever see the *incredibly* brilliant work of Rius in Mexico?? Woazah!
In Manhattan on 14th Union Square I found his movie collection book (by /of him). Devine Power in my path. I love his art. Learned techniques ,llessons, method, etc)from him and mad magazine

You can't get a copy, only a 30-day-access to the video-file. Unfortunately, there's no DVD, apparently due to copyright reasons. Bother!
does the film focues mostly on Mort's life/biography/background, with only occasional glimpses of his technique/ him drawing? Or is it a balance between both?
