I think all of them do on this one. Barry’s chest voice is very powerful, Robin is great as usual and Mo with the Falsetto. One of my favorite moments in any BeeGees Song is when is during that slow interlude when they are all belting it out together. Usually when they sing together it sounds like one person, but in this song they are all using a different voice, it just genius.
The midnight special wasn't just a show, it was THE show, we all stayed up late every weekend to watch which ever hot new group was on, and they all showed up there eventually...♡
And the show demanded that the acts performed totally live. No prerecorded sections at all. I remember watching them on the night this aired. Bravo, Bee Gees, bravo!
This is the song when Barry discovered his falsetto voice with the “blamin’ it all” line over & over towards the end……when their producer Arif Mardin asked if one of them could scream into the mike when recording studio version. He said after that they felt like they had “another voice” to add to their harmonies…..& began writing songs with it🎤!!
You hit the nail on the head years ago when I was young watching these guys that's exactly what I thought the Bee Gees were grouped you didn't try to figure out you just enjoyed them.
Their early stuff from the 60s is great: Massachusetts, New York Mining Disaster, Holiday, To Love Somebody, Can't see Nobody, I Started a Joke and many others. There are more Robin leads in the early stuff than later
Back in the day, it was Maurice who sang the falsetto. When they started working with the music producer, Arif Mardin in the late 70's, he asked if any of them could, "scream in tune". Thus, Barry discovered he could sing quite beautifully in his trademark falsetto
Have you heard, TO LOVE SOMEBODY? It’s from the 60s and is before the Disco era. There is a black and white video from 1967 that’s pretty dope. I love The Bee Gees.
For people who are mainly familiar with their disco era, this is quite a departure, with Barry singing the baritone, Robin singing the chorus alone, and Maurice singing the falsetto's, they were all so multitalented, there will never be another like the Bee Gee's.....RIP Andy💟, Maurice 💟 & Robin 💟
Run to Me from 1967 is great! Also To Love Somebody. A little later in their careers Man in the Middle or You Win Again or really good too. Love The Bee Gees!!
ALL GREAT REQUESTS!! I believe RUN TO ME is from 1972. If you react to the RARE COLOR VERSION, be sure to notice Barry low cut, lace up (front and back), black and white color blocked bell bottoms, paired with a black shirt itied at the waist. He’s already reacted to To Love Somebody. MAN IN THE MIDDLE has Mo on lead!! From their last album before he died. YOU WIN AGAIN (Official video features Barry with a pony tail) was their big comeback hit in 1987, and one of my favorites. Barry and Mo made the stomp track at Mo’s home studio with things they found in his garage. Sounds like an advancing army.
I love this one because we get to hear all three brother's voices individually at times. And such a fun, funky little song. Of course, a great live performance!
It's not possible for me to get tired of hearing the music of The Bee Gees. One they did for another artist, but which they eventually recorded themselves that I LOVE is "Emotion." Also, I REALLY hope you'll check out the live version of "Immortality," that they do with Celine Dion. Such a powerful song, and incredibly beautiful One of their all time best. LOVED your reaction to them. It's SO great that a younger generation is finding their music, and loving it, too.
Yes, EMOTION by Bee Gees, and the original hit of SAMANTHA SANG with tons of backup by Barry. Destiny’s Child also covered it. IMMORTALITY is one of my favorites!!
The BeeGees are exceptional entertainers; this song is soooooooo amazing; the arrangement, it shows the range of all if their voices; they never disappoint; I feel blessed
We watched The Midnight Special every Friday night. I remember this broadcast! The Bee Gees are attached to many of my child hood memories of the 70's!
I could be going on a limb here, but I view them as the best vocal group of all. And I'm factoring in the fact they're brothers and that the Beach Boys had a similar set up. What's surprising, perhaps, is how Barry takes the bass or root of the song here and before the following year was out, he was singing falsetto over everyone else.
YES.... HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART... the first song they wrote and recorded after being broken up and not speaking for almost years. Al Green did a great cover version.
thanks, Biz - Robin was always my favorite - super-sweet vibrato - but give it up for Maurice, too! Any one of these guys could sing ANY incredible falsetto note - and often did re-arrange their live vocals depending on whose voice was in best condition -- If you dig Robin, too - please listen to "Gotta get a message" ua-cam.com/video/ijOn0KTg6Ok/v-deo.html and "I started a Joke" -- ua-cam.com/video/b3kBDtjRtB0/v-deo.html - although the early recordings are more "clear" - I deliberately picked later, live versions so you could see how awesome they were even without studio "tricks" --
The Midnight Special was a 90 minute show on Friday nights after The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson…..from 1973 until 1981. The guests were unbelievable (in today’s world, anyway!) from ABBA, AC/DC, Aerosmith, America, Aretha Franklin……& that’s just the A’s😂!! The full list is on Wikipedia, & the show was created & produced by Burt Sugarman. He also created & produced The Richard Pryor TV Specials & The Newlywed Game Show…..& is still married to Mary Hart.
This was the first song they used their falsetto voices on. Barry did the high fills on the studio recording, and Maurice did them onstage, and being brothers, you can't tell them apart!
There was only two times the Bee Gee's appeared on Midnight Special where they weren't the hosts. "Nights on Broadway" was originally "Lights on Broadway" and the head of the record company wanted a "more mature" title. Also, the producer, Arif Mardin, wanted "screams in pitch" at the end and Barry gave it a try (although he didn't do it on this rendition - Maurice [pronounced Morris] did all the embellishments), but THIS is when Barry found out for the first time that he could sing falsetto!! This is one of my FAVORITE Bee Gee's songs!! But I LOVE THEM and all their stuff!!! 💖 Just bought the newest album, Greenfields, yesterday! 😊
Robin was the original front man for the group but as Berry developed his high pitch falsetto Robin finally had to end his absence and agree to let Barry become the face of the group,
I recommend that song when I want to show the breadth of the Bee Gees catalog. Completely different style from their previous work, but still quite good.
I cannot say which year officially ushered in disco but 1975 is probably a year before disco (at least). Even Jive Talkin', released in 75 predated disco. I always thought that those 2 songs (Jive talkin and Nights on Broadway) paved the road for disco BUT You Should Be Dancing (1976) is considered to be BeeGees first disco song. Once the BeeGees became the center and kings of disco, Barry Gibb took the lead on most songs, including the more soulful (R&B) tunes that BeeGees released during the disco period (example being How Deep is your Love and Too Much Heaven). In the pre-disco period, Robin was lead singer on many of their biggest tunes and if you check out the video you played above, Maurice was laying down the falsetto bits at the end, while Barry was singing in his natural voice through most of the tune. Robin, as far as I know, always sings with the high pitch voice, before disco period and during disco period. That voice is on display here. When I was young, the first member of the BeeGees that I knew anything about was Robin Gibb because he was the lead singer on the tunes I heard and saw from the group. Disco changed that of course with Barry taking over. One other point about the R&B tunes, they sound like tunes that could have come out of the Stylistics, an African American group in the early 70s. Check out the song Betcha By Golly Wow and you hear lots of BeeGee R&B sound, including the falsetto. Among the many influences, BeeGees credit Stylistics for influencing them.
They are my all- time favorite group to listen to. Excellent reaction!❤ Please react to more BeeGees: And the Sun Will Shine ( Robin leads in this song - Melbourne '74 live video) Tokyo Nights ( Robin leads - upbeat song) I Cant See Nobody ( R&B Melbourne live '74 video - Robin leads!!!) How Do you Mend a Broken Heart ( Robin & Barry share the lead - mostly Barry) Fallen Angel ( Robin is lead!) Love So Right (R&B) Embrace ( Robin is lead ) I Saw a New Morning ( Carson video - about getting out of jail) Emotion ( with Samantha Sang) Rings Around the Moon ( Robin leads this haunting love song!) For Robin's solo career: Juliet ( Robin leads - best audio imo is the Live in Berlin video) Boys do fall in Love How old Are You ( funny video!)
They have made, played, sung and written HITS for themselves and others over a 5 or 6 decade period of time. Simply amazing. You’ll like the studio version of this song better. Anyway, you’ll never go wrong reacting to the BG’s!!!
Just so nobody's confused; On the record, Barry did the falsetto. When they did it live, Maurice did the falsetto (since Barry can't sing 2 parts at the same time). They could all sing falsetto, but they found out that Barry could do it best (could sustain it, do whole songs in it).
Brothers Gibb ,unbelievable harmonizing
That is a brillant song. Three superstars making magic.
Love Robin!!!
The Bee Gees, the greatest artist to ever live in my opinion, there's a lot great tunes by the Bee Gees, you're just getting started
As a teenager in the 70's, to see what bands looked like live, we looked forward to the Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack and Saturday Night Live.
Ah yes the 70s..when music was great and Saturday Night Live was actually funny.
Don Kirshner's Rock Concert too.
Maurice and Robin shine on this one.
I think all of them do on this one. Barry’s chest voice is very powerful, Robin is great as usual and Mo with the Falsetto. Perfect Saturday night babysitting. Saturday Night Live and then Midnight Special.

Robins voice is perfection. These guys are class acts, gentlemen, kind, and so humble 🥰❤️🥰
Robin's voice....how about Mo's but especially Barry's?!?🎶
LIVE. No Autotune. Phenomenal talented and handsome…extraordinary.
Thank you for acknowledging each of their individual talents!
Love this song so much. And Mo's falsetto!!💗💗💗

Great reaction. Maurice could do a mean falsetto, couldn't he. :))
Thanks and yeah he killed it
Go Maurice with the falsetto!
the more I listen to them, the more Robin is becoming my favorite. "I started a joke" is a pure solo from him and it's spectacular.
Back in the day, it was Maurice who sang the falsetto. When they started working with the music producer, Arif Mardin in the late 70's, he asked if any of them could, "scream in tune". Thus, Barry discovered he could sing quite beautifully in his trademark falsetto
The Bee Gees jam.
Maurice singing the falsetto @ the end go Mo luv ya...all 3 of the BeeGees

They originally wrote it for Otis Redding but he and his band died in a plane crash before they could record it. 😪
@@DianaJG8, that’s what I’ve heard, too.
They had every range. Low, middle and very high.
Didn't like disco back in the day but always respected the bee gees pure talent. A perfect trio of singers that are always in perfect harmony.

One of my favorites. Loved how Mo was doing falsetto and Barry the lower voice.
Simply their best ever
