Hi Vinson, this is the first of your videos I've seen and I think you're probably one of the best drum teachers on UA-cam. Was wondering how you get your drums to sound so great. Is it because of the mics? Could I still get that sound without mics? Thanks! Cheers!
Hey Aaron! Your kind words are humbling! Thank you so much! Mics have some effect, but my opinion is always that good tuning beats good equipment any day. I have a decent 7-mix setup now, but you can get drum sound with good tuning and smart placement of whatever recording equipment you’re using (i.e. phone, GoPro, etc) Email me and we can talk at greater length on this topic!

oh wow man that would be so generous! I think I know the basic beat (minus that VM flavor!), after messing around with it for a little while last night. This might help me clear something up: are you just playing the open hat on every ‘and’ ? Maybe this could lead to a video on that basic breakbeat and then spicing it up somehow? That way everybody can benefit from your great explanations :)
