Hey! Loved your vid! I’m getting chinchillas soon and so I’ve been doing a lot of research. But I still have some questions that i CANT find the answers to. So if you could answer them, I’d be very very thankful. -what’s a pee pad? Do they pee on it? How do I train them to pee on it? How do I wash a pee pad? -what’s the process of bringing home chinchillas? do u need to take them to the vet straight away? What do you need to put in their travelling crate? What should i NOT do when bringing them home? Like what are they not comfortable with doing when meeting them for the first time/bringing them home? -how to get TWO chinchillas? What can they share? What can they NOT share? Do I bring them home at the same time? -do I need to choose a vet before getting a chinchilla? And how do I pick a vet? Like do I call them? Thanks :)
Hello! That's so exciting you are getting chinchillas soon! 😁 Also, good questions, I will try my best to answer them :) - A pee pad is a separate piece of felt that you put in in the cage (preferably the corner) that you chinchilla will pee on. Before you put the pee pad in, you should observe where your chinchilla likes to pee. Once you've identified that spot, you can put a pee pad on it. I would recommend you rinse your pee pad with water and soap, but you could always just make a new one, every couple of weeks. Fleece is not that expensive, especially if you have left overs from making the liners. For me, I have a potty for my chinchilla, where I put pelleted pine. This way, I only have to change the litter every week or so, and not have to change the fleece that often. If you are interested, I did make a video on the chinchilla potty. - For the process of bringing home a chinchilla, depends where you are getting one from, I recommend you always have a carrier to put them in during the car ride. try covering the carrier or putting a hut inside to make them less scared, because the car ride home is probably going to be a shock form them. If it is a long drive, definitely put some toys, food (pellets), and possibly hay and water. You should not take a chinchilla home that are showing signs of sickness, so no, you don't need to take them to the vet straight away. Sometimes, chinchillas can hide their sicknesses so I keep a close eye on them the first couple of days, and if they are eating/pooping normally, you don't have to bring them to a vet. For the first couple of days, I don't recommend you to be extremely touchy with them. Just give them some space to themselves (they are still getting used to their environment and don't need added stress). After a day or two, try opening the cage door and see if they want to come out and explore, of course make sure their play area is chin-proofed. - If you are able to, it'll definitely be ideal to get two chinchillas. If you are bringing home and already bonded pair of chinchillas, it should be fine to put them in the same cage straight away. But if the two chinchillas are not bonded, you do not want to put them together. The best thing to do is to get two cages so they can live separately until bonded. But I know cages are really expensive, so if you have a two story cage, maybe blocking off the top and the bottom, so that they can each have their own level. For sure you can bring them home at the same time, but it is perfectly fine if you want to bring them home at different times. - It would be awesome if you knew an exotic vet around your area before picking up a chinchilla. Just make sure that the vet knows how to treat chinchillas. Maybe giving them a call to confirm or checking their website. But exotic vets are usually the go to. I hope that helped you, I know it's a lot of information! But all the best and super pumped for you! ✊
Chinchilla kingdom Thank you so so SO much!!! You explained everything so well :) u said that I shouldn’t rly have any contact with the chinchillas at first... so does that mean I shouldn’t let them have play time outside of their cage? and how should I clean the cage with them still in there? thanks so much again I rly do appreciate it
@@saveen9266 Hello again! 😁 I'm glad I was able to help. 💕 Yes, I said you should not have any contact with your chinchilla. What I mean by this is forcing them do do anything against their will like petting them, grabbing them. Because it their first day in your home, it is best for them to get used to the environment and not have to deal with the stress of a human handling them on the first day. You could sit next to the cage and watch him/her and open up the door to see if they want to come out. If not, that is perfectly fine. If they do come out, I would not force him/her to go back in, instead just wait until they are done exploring and go back into the cage by themselves. About the cleaning. If you have a two story cage, you can just block the top level from the bottom. So your chinnie only has access to one level, while you clean the other. Then switch to clean the other level. Once your chinnie is used to having you around, you can try cleaning the cage while they are having playtime. This way you can get more things done :) But of course, there are lots of ways to do it so do what works best for you, I'm just here for suggestions 🥰
Just one tip, Hay should never be stored in plastic bags. If its kept in non airy place it will develope mold which can be toxic and cause stomach issues for the animal. Also the mold spores are not visible in the beginning. If its visible (small dark spots) then its even gone too far. Its not even enough to sort out the moly parts because the mold spores will have been spread everywhere. Hay should be stored dry and airy in paper bags.
HI! For this video I was using the feisty ferret cage but i have since switched to the critter nation cage. I think both are great options, if you want to check them out, I have made a video comparing them on my channel! :)
I think you said you use pine liter? Pine can actually kill them so I recommend using a paper based bedding. Also the mug could make it hard for your chin to drink water so try putting a pee pad there. Also I am not sure but your wheel looks like plastic, Chinchillas cant have plastic because it will tear up their insides, try getting your chin a chin spin, they are a bit more expensive but its worth it!!! By the way I love your chinchilla hes soo cute!!!
Hello! Thank you for watching my video! In the most respectful way possible. Kiln-dried pine litter is 100% safe for chinchillas, and Pandora never chews the pine. This is because when she pees in it, it breaks down, and she would not want to chew stuff that is covered in pee. I don't think paper bedding is the best option for chinchillas since in can be very light, and can easily get into a mess. Like cardboard, if chinchillas consume too much paper, there can be health risks. Also, compared to pelleted pine litter, paper is less absorbent, so it won't soak the urine that well. The next time the chinchilla goes to pee, they might get their fur wet from the urine. Regarding the bottle, I've tried various methods to make it not leak onto to the cage or onto Pandora, and the mug seems to be the best option. I've watched Pandora put her paws on the mug while drinking to support herself several times. But I've recently ordered a new bottle on amazon, so hopefully that won't be a problem anymore. Finally, my wheel is not made out of plastic, it is a 15 inch metal wheel from Pandamonium. In fact I've made a video unboxing it and showing what it looks like more closely. ua-cam.com/video/mchXmu9k9Bc/v-deo.html. I always do countless research before buying anything or recommending anything to anyone. :)))
@@Chinchillakingdom Pine can be unsafe even if it is not consumed. You could also try a fleece liner with an absorbent layer underneath. Also I never said kiln dried pine was unsafe, you are right it is perfectly safe. I am just trying to help so I hope this helps! (also Pandora is such a cute name!! My chins name is Nutella lol) I really hope I am not coming off as rude, I really a just trying to help.
While chinchillas are social animals, they do NOT need to be with another chinchilla to have a good life. A chinchilla can be a happy single pet with a large cage, healthy diet - to include Timothy hay, wood shelves to occupy them and a hidey house. Having said that, I do plan on getting her a friend, but I had to postpone that due to the pandemic.
@@Chinchillakingdom It is so sad, that you show how to keep the animals and give wrong information. This isn’t true.. Chinchillas lives in Groups. Mostly they are 100 Chinchillas in one Group, one boy ist often with a lot of girls. Please show me where you find this information??? You can’t say that some Chinchillas live alone EVERY Chin find his Patner. I’m so sorry for your Chin because some people think that it is okay and say “he have a happy life”. No, he need a Patner, he is not happy. You give him all what he need, but not his Patner. Also why do you know that he is happy? Did he tell it to you?? Don’t give other people wrong information... these animals suffer because of people like you. (Chinchillas can hide it well when they are not feeling well and can die of loneliness.)
Yes she lives alone, I am looking to get her a buddy soon. But really depends on the pandemic because a lot of breeders around me are not available at the moment 😁
Also for some people that are wanting to get chinchillas and want two but dont know how to bond them then if you get two under 5 months, you can put them in right away, theyre babies they dont fight. (Thats what a professional told me that breeds chinchillas for over 10 years.) I think after some time they get used to themselves so they dont need seperate cages. I could be possibly wrong but that just depends on the chinchilla and her personality.
Yeah, babies chins are especially easy to bond because they are still getting used to the world around them. 😉 with two older chins, you might want to be more careful and put them in separate cages until bonded. 😊
Although they do tend to be a lot sweeter at the age I wouldn’t recommend just putting them in cage together theirs always a chance they could fight. I wouldn’t want to risk that. some chins just don’t like company and that’s okay. Unless you purchased them together as they were raised together. Most breeders will recommend a smooshing method to bond chinchillas at any age. The idea is if you put them in a small enough container together where they don’t have enough room to fight. They will be too focused on trying to get out and a little stressed that they will bond through the process. Although this method doesn’t work for every chin.
I'm thinking of getting a chinchilla and I really need some tips. I've seen some of your vids and I actually just subscribed, your fluff ball is so cute btw! Ok, I obviously need some time to research A LOT but if you could answer some of these questions it would be helping so much! 1. What food do you use? Do you use just one brand or do you use more than one? I've seen some people use a certain group of vegetables and fruit that are right for them but didn't know if that's a good decision or if some have weaker stomachs. 2. About the pee pads, where did you find them. Are they at stores or did you just make them at home? 3. Cages- I've seen a few on ferret nation but didn't know which ones would hurt their feet. I've also seen a few online in stores near me but again I don't know if those would be right for a ferret because of the material. Where did you get yours? 4. I am against the animal mills but it is also kind of risky to trust to meet up with someone from a website and know you are safe. Do you have a recommended breeder? 5. Toys and other stuff to add to the cage- Where did you get yours from? I don't know if that is all I should be focused on but if you have any other tips I would greatly appreciate it! Have a great day!
Hello, welcome to the channel! I'm going to try my best to answer your questions :)) 1. I use a brand called selective, just search "Supreme Science Selective Chinchilla Food" on the internet. Pandora seems to love these, but some other popular options are Oxbow and Mazuri. Any of these will work very well. 2. Personally I don't use pee pads, I use a glass litter box (more about that later). I believe most people make their own pee pads. It shouldn’t be too hard; you grab some layers of scrap fleece and put in in the corner of the cage, or wherever your chinnie likes to pee. I use a litter box with pelleted pine, and Pandora immediately got the hang of it, and it has made cleaning so much more easier. If you want more info on litter boxes, watch this video I made: ua-cam.com/video/mKL7DCzgznU/v-deo.html 3. There are definitely good and bad cages, I would make sure cage is at least 2 stories (they like to jump). Most cages will have wired bottoms or plastic pans. Either way, you will have to make/buy fleece liners for your cage. Once you have fleece liners, it won't harm their feet anymore. I just wanted to note that the ferret nation has vertical bars that are 1" apart, and the critter nation has horizontal bars that are 0.5" apart. Now I know these cages can get expensive, so if you want a cheaper one, I'd say the ferret nation is the next best option. If you're still unsure, watch this video where I compare the two: ua-cam.com/video/1Ckbx4W9Q7E/v-deo.html 4. I'd say it's best to get from a breeder/rescue instead of a pet store. There are a lot of breeders depending on which state you are in (if you are in America). Message me on instagram @chinchilla_kingdom or email at chinchilla.pandora@gmail.com if you want some advice on this :) 5. There are a lot of places that you can get toys. Petco, Petsmart, Amazon...etc. But you need to make sure that the toys are safe, no plastic and certain types of wood. Another place to get cheap toys is AZ chins, you can buy a lot of stuff in bulk there. Another thing you should probably keep in mind is whether you are going to get one or two chinnies. I hope this helped with your research, and if you end up deciding to get a chinchilla, I am very excited for you 😊😊 Also feel free to ask any follow up questions, I'm always happy to help 💕
What type of food do you use?? I’ve never seen that type and I want to know if you like it better than the Oxbo food. Btw I’m very glad that I found your channel because you give such good chinchilla care information. Im also a small chinchilla/lifestyle you tuber ☺️

If you want more info on litter boxes, watch this video I made: ua-cam.com/video/mKL7DCzgznU/v-deo.html
3. If you're still unsure, watch this video where I compare the two: ua-cam.com/video/1Ckbx4W9Q7E/v-deo.html
4. I'd say it's best to get from a breeder/rescue instead of a pet store. There are a lot of breeders depending on which state you are in (if you are in America). Message me on instagram @chinchilla_kingdom or email at chinchilla.pandora@gmail.com if you want some advice on this :)
I hope this helped with your research, and if you end up deciding to get a chinchilla, I am very excited for you 😊😊
Also feel free to ask any follow up questions, I'm always happy to help 💕

What type cage for your chinchilla
In this video you use the feisty ferret cage. But I have switched to the Critter nation cage. If you are interested, I have made a video comparing the two on my channel :)
This is so interesting!
thank you! 😁
and also a question, whats that litte yellow thing in your water bottle?
It’s a little plastic floating turtle 🐢 I’m pretty sure it makes it easier to see how much water is left in the bottle 😊
@@Chinchillakingdom ohhh thank you! cause i had a little carrot in the bottle and i didnt know what it was for so i just have it under the cage with other chin stuff
@@klaudiav.4739 Yeah, I don't really think it matters whether you put it in or not. At least it floats around and is cute 🥰
