I have, recently, started sewing again after many years (recently retired). And, boy, oh boy, have a few things changed (for the better)!!! The Pilot Frixion Pens are genius!!!! I just ordered a set and can't wait to use them. I'm a new subscriber, and, thoroughly, enjoy your teaching style, projects, and no nonsense explanations. Thank you for posting!

I make my pockets by folding the fabric in half, right sides together. Stitching 1/4” from the raw edges (3 sides), but leaving a 3-4” opening for turning. Then turn right side out, then sew on the 3 sides onto the lining fabric. This keeps all raw edges to the inside. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Lorrie, this is so easy to follow. You are inspiring us to jump right in there and use our new Cricut Makers! It is funny but I picked out the same fabric as you did for you main fabric of the bag. I am using a pink piece for the pocket and a teal for the lining. I bought a corral zipper called Flamingo. I can't wait to get mine made! Thanks again!

I have used the Frixion pens for years now. If you have a situation where you don’t think it is completely ironed away...wet and rub it with a cloth. Also if you ironed the pen mark away and need it back..put the project in the freezer and the mark comes back.

I am learning a lot from your videos. As an old sewer, I will tell you to be careful with the pens. If you use them on a darker fabric, they remove the pigment and leave a white line. Ask me how I know, lol. I am new to the Cricut and I am really enjoying it. I may have to get that Cricut Press!

If you make (cloth) tabs out of scrap fabric to be attached to both ends of the zipper, it makes it easy to sew when completing your side seam. The tabs are ideal if your serging your side seams. No worries of damaging your serger blade. Have a great day!

Nice Job Lorrie! I am an avid quilter and sewer and love the Frixxon pens. I would test them on fabric before using. I made the mistake of using one on a t-shirt I embroidered for my grandson. Apparently the marks do not go away on all fabric types. I would probably sew the pocket right sides facing and leave an opening in the bottom like you did when you turned the bag inside out. This would keep fabric from fraying. Since many of the viewers do not sew buying a zipper 2 inches longer will safeguard them from hitting the metal zipper pull or metal stopper. I would advise not using metal zippers and would use my old scissors to cut the excess off the zipper. Now I am going to have to make me a travel case. Love your fabric!

I would suggest fusing the fleece to the lining before sewing on the pocket. Also, on the side for the cord, I would recommend putting a pleat in the bottom of the pocket to accommodate the bulk of the cord.
For a bigger pocket, you could even make the pocket piece wide enough to be sewn into the side seams. I did that when I made tote bags and it eliminates having to turn the sides under.
I just found you last night and watched your video on the boxed bag.

Awesome possum! I have to just point out one thing. When you say the word taut, you are mispronouncing it. For some reason you are adding a syllable “n” making it taunt. To taunt someone means to provoke them. Pulling something tight is taut. I don’t know if that’s how Americans say it though, I’m Canadian. And I love your videos and still haven’t tried sewing yet. One day when I find some time, I will definitely be rewatching your how to sew videos, and teaching myself to sew.
