      @Claudia Tommasi yeah ofc, so the UI program is broken up into 3 main parts. First is an intro to UI which gets you familiar with using design tools and actually designing things. The next part goes more in depth and actually teaches a fair bit of UX which is what im doing now. Then theres a specialization course but im not up to that yet. So even though im in the UI course right now I have alot of UX tasks which is really helpful with making me a more well rounded designer.

      Hi Natalia ooo that's a tricky one! The reason that I put in 8-5 is because I also did lots of additional readings and I spent a longer time working on assignments, which is definitely not a requirement! I can't give you exact hours, but I would think that if you could put in a couple hours for a few nights a week plus more hours on the weekend, you should be good to go. Hi Taylor - those are all really good options! My top three were CareerFoundry, Bloc and Springboard :) I was already leaning toward CF based on reviews from grads, and eventually I set up a call with a CF advisor and explained my background and goals to see if we would be a good fit. She was very honest and explained what CF could and couldn't help me with (I didn't qualify for the job guarantee, for example) and she gave me a lot of really useful info! A combination of that and the 6 day course helped me make my decision. But I totally get you - there are SO many reviews and opinions out there about bootcamps now! I would definitely consider chatting to/emailing some advisors from all four of your options to see what feels right to you :)

    Which other bootcamps did you consider when you were looking around? Just curious- I'm debating between GA & Thinkful (but for their immersion program). Did you consider either of those? I see below in some of the comments you were looking at Springboard & Bloc (which I think was acquired by Thinkful).

      Hi Keri! Yep, Springboard and Bloc were mainly my other two, but I've heard really good things about GA! They are one of the bootcamps that I was referring to that have projects with real companies, which I think could be a really great bonus for your portfolio. At the time, I remember thinking that CF and GA were quite similar in curriculum, but there was quite a difference in tuition, which really played a part in my decision. At the end it came down to that and wanting to be fully self-paced, so I didn't look into GA as much. But I have heard that it's an amazing program!! :)

      Hi Lydia! Obviously I can only speak from my own experience, but a big part of making a career change is leveraging your job history and work experience to your new career position. I can only imagine that you have years and years of experience above the average younger career changer - consider using this to your advantage! There are quite a few people that I've seen in the CareerFoundry slack workspace that are 45+. I can only give advice so far, but I would say that if you believe that UX is your passion and would be the right career choice for you, go for it :) you likely have a lot of experience to back you up.

    Hello Tanya, is there a simple reason you chose CareerFoundry over Springboard for example? Springboard seems to have a new program that combines both UX/UI into one program, vs CareerFoundry focuses on either UX or UI in one program, then specialize in either. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

    • @tanyaniu
      @tanyaniu  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Paul, thanks for watching! I've heard good things about Springboard too! When I was deciding, I'd read a ton of great reviews from CF grads at the time, and I organised a call with the CF team to see if the course would be a good fit for me and found our conversation super helpful. I definitely wanted to focus more on UX, which is why I liked that the UI specialization was kind of like a bonus (but I ended up enjoying it a ton!) I also took the 6 day UX trial when I was trying to make a decision, which basically sealed the deal for me. I think a UX/UI course could be a really good option though! I would just double check to see if it goes properly in depth in both, maybe? :) good luck with your decision!!

      Hiya! The career mentors help more with building the skills that you'll need to land a job (writing your resume, linkedin, creating an elevator pitch, interview practice, etc), but they don't actually find you the job, you have to do that yourself :) so I applied the knowledge that my mentor gave me to create applications/do interviews/etc on my own, so location didn't really matter :) I hope that helps!

    Did you get hired anywhere? Career Foundry claims they have a 96% success rate but I don't know if I'm believing that.

      Tanya Niu 96% of graduates at Career Foundry land jobs or get a refund for their tuition. Don’t know if I really believe that.

    This isn't meant to be mean. I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I was hoping to hear more details about the course. All I know is you could be a model saying a bunch of nice things about a career institute. More meat and potatoes, please. What new skills did you learn? Can you tell us about your portfolio? What tools did you use? I'm happy to hear they were nice to you. But are they nice to everybody? We can sense you are a nice person and will treat you nicely in a universal way. Have you found a job? Is your job as a contract worker or were you hired as a permanent employee?

      I ended up with three - one from the intro course, one from immersion and one from specialization. The first was super small, so I only added the second two bigger ones to my portfolio :) Hope this helps!

    Now that you mentioned the specialization thingy, I am wondering what’s the difference between the UX and UI courses. 🤔

    • @tanyaniu
      @tanyaniu  4 роки тому +1

      So the UX immersion is the big course, about 6 months of deep dive into UX theory and prac. The UI specialization that comes after is much shorter, about 2 months, and it's more focused on just a few UI topics that can be applied to a shorter project. Hope this helps!! :)

      @@tanyaniu Hey, thanks for responding. I have not understood unfortunately.
      So how does this compare to taking just the UI course. I see the offer a standalone UI course that doesn't require one to complete the UX one first.

    • @shawol5253
      @shawol5253 4 роки тому +2

      @@sherlan1886 UI (user interface) is for making apps and websites look nice. It's creative visually. You learn about how to design and make things easy to navigate based on what the user will see. Kinda like graphic design.
      UX (user experience) is making apps and websites easy to use. Like the backbone of the app/site. Have you ever encountered an app that you struggled using? Maybe it was a bit confusing or links weren't placed where you expected them to be? That's bad UX design. When you use an app and have no difficulty navigating it, that's good UX design.
      So a UX designer will make the blueprints so to speak for an app (under UX there's an umbrella of specialties like a researcher). A UI designer will make it happen visually. A developer will make it function. And so on because it's a team effort. Also something to note is that you would make presentations to shareholders

      @@shawol5253 thanks for the explanation however, I think you misunderstood my question. I do understand what UX and UI design is. However, she mentioned that there is a UI and UX course but if one takes the UX course, they can specialise in UI Design. So I am questioning what’s the point of having a separate UI design course since it’s already integrated in UX Design.

      @@sherlan1886 oh it's like a generic course on ui and the actual course for just ui is more in depth. Now I haven't had bootcamp so i wouldn't know, but I did read about different programs. I want to start one soon and have seen many videos on it.
