Tim has commented before that Home Free and VoicePlay did do their own arrangements that were then put together as you noticed, SH. The female vocalist’s name is Honey La Rochelle. Each week on the Sing Off, every group had to arrange some pop song to perform in the event they were in the bottom two and on the verge of elimination, then rehearse it with all of the other groups. This was the battle song for one week, and Home Free and VoicePlay liked their matchup so much even though they didn’t need to use it that they decided to bring it back after the show. This video is that result.
Home Free vs. The Filharmonic a Caddy Shack song (watch at least the gopher clips from that movie before you see it ) also worth watching the judges comments on it. They were supposed to have one group be the Stand Out performance between the 2 HF had other plans.
For another fun acapella battle you should react to Home Free vs. The Filharmonic covering I'm Alright from The Sing Off. Great vocals and very entertaining choreography.
In your quest for Halloween songs to react to I’m hopeful that you’ve found the Hound and the Fox. They have collaborated with Tim Foust, Adam Chance and Peter Hollens on many songs. They have many Halloween appropriate songs like Come Little Children from the movie Hocus Pocus, Rot Next to You from the Adams Family, Thirsty from Dracula, Ghost of John, Spooky Scary Skeletons, and I Put a Spell on you. They have a few more from other movies as well. I think you will enjoy the duo.
It is time , it is time Sir Hairless , for "Man Of Constant Sorrow" .. by Home Free ( from the motion picture - O Brother Where Art Thou - ) 🙈🙉🙊🙈🙉🙊🙈🙉🙊🙈🙉🙊
I love that both VoicePlay and Home Free are committed to their own styles (both musically and the appearance)... And yes Austin's teeth and Chris's arrow shot had me laugh every time!! Definitely super fun one!! Thanks for this one!!
Even though they didn't use it during the competition (aka both groups were not the bottom 2 at the same time), they performed it during their Sing Off tour, after the show. I love this one.
The first time watching was AMAZING. The second time watching I couldn't keep it together. First, Rob's half hearted swat at the Zombies, then Adam's face in the middle and teeth, galloping,...NO!! 😂😂😂😂.
The crazy thing is that Voiceplay was in Florida and Home Free was in Texas during filming. They did an amazing job combining the two to look like they're in the same room. This was supposed to be a competition in the Sing Off but Voiceplay was voted off before it could be shown. After the show ended they all decided to release it on UA-cam.
I think we can say they both won because they sing in such different styles. I feel like Voice Play is more pop/rock and Home Free is more bluegrass/country. It makes me think of Crystal Gayle and Loretta Lynne! lol
This is one of those that'll just never get old for me. It's too funny and so good. Both groups have grown since then, but the fun and silliness remains! Loved your reaction!! ❤
Good gosh, I had no idea this even existed. No clue the groups had linked up and recorded it. Then again, I’m too late to the a cappella party. And ironically it was my foray into YT reaction videos that led me to discover HF and a cappella in general. That backing “We will wear you out” descending harmony was what stood out most to me. 🎃🎃🧟♂️ *VS* 🤠🎃🎃
I find it so amusing that the groups weren't in the same place for this. They were filmed separately. But it still works, so well. I'd love to see the two groups team up again! Though I may not be able to handle it!💙
So nice of you to do this for Halloween week. They’re both so goofy. Love the “battle”. You don’t get much sillier than Hillbillies dancing and messing around. They both sounded great and the female with VP is Honey LaRochelle. I don’t know why the producers insisted on them having a female but she sounds great. Good one SH. Have a wonderful Halloween and autumn.
From what I've gathered, the Sing-Off producers insisting on VoicePlay adding a woman was a combination of 1) the show tending to have a lot of all-male groups and needing more variety in their roster, and 2) the fact that VP's "Trouble" mashup with Rachel Potter was what convinced the producers to reach out and encourage them to submit an audition. Since Rachel had already commited to being on The X-Factor, the guys reached out to Honey, who they also knew from the Orlando theme park performance circuit.
This is so much fun! I wish all our acapella groups would collaborate. Speaking of collabs, you should do PTX and Todrick Hall doing the Wizard of AAAHs. Have you done that yet?
One of my favorite moments in this is when Home Free starts singing their first verse and they go back to show VoicePlay and they are all holding their ears like its painful (around 1:37)
Thanks - was checking out other artist on your channel and found myself here. I'm new to these 2 groups but I love a cappella - enjoyed and found it very silly. I will explore more of each group to understand the voices better. I enjoy and learn from your knowledgable analysis - so thank you.
I loved it, the music, the voices, and just the silliness of it all. I just didn't get the zombies being there. Was this made for Halloween? At any rate, they are so closely in tune with each other that it made it hard for me to choose. I'd just it a tie, even though I am partial to Home Free. I fell in love with them when I heard them cover the Eagles song, Seven Bridges Road." This video made me happy. Thank you.
VoicePlay don't need to wait for Halloween to play dress-up. They'll bust out the costumes and makeup any time of year. (Though they do tend to get a little more elaborate for spooky season.) In this instance, it was part of their "Collide" series, in which they collaborated with other singers from their season of The Sing-Off, and released a new video after each episode aired. The zombies vs. hillbillies concept was what the two groups had come up with while rehearsing for the "ultimate sing-off" segment, but fortunately didn't need to perform on the show since neither group ended up in danger of elimination for that episode. They'd had so much fun with it that they decided to put it on film, and the Sing-Off producers liked that so much that they included it in the tour program.
I believe this was an un-aired performance which was intended to have a sing off between two competing groups. HF won Sing Off. But for this performance, my personal preference will always be with VP - although I also love HF.
Such a fun and silly video! I think it does an excellent job of highlighting the differences and similarities between the 2. For whatever reasons, The Sing-Off was not the best platform for displaying VP's talent, and Honey (who's an outstanding vocalist) may have not been the best fit for VP. During The Sing-Off Tour, Honey didn't join them & VP recruited another singer from Ten (who came in 2nd). You can see her (blanked on name) in the outro - she had the big blond hair. Who won? They both did! Just look at their loyal fan bases!
When we get closer to the Christmas season, you should give a reaction to Home Free's Joy to the World. They do it is a jazz gospel style, with lots of chords, progressions and other frills you will geek out over. There is available a studio version (ua-cam.com/video/Ts3oEzayJHQ/v-deo.html ), but I particularly like the live version (ua-cam.com/video/uCWbYNeQVng/v-deo.html). The two are quite similar, but it shows the precision and polish they had over a decade ago.
From what Tim and Chris have said, one of them would normally have been arranging the main competition song each week, and the other the battle song, which was performed by the bottom two groups each week, to see who got to stay. This was a battle song, not one they got to use in the show, but they resurrected it for the Sing-Off tour. The live performances from that were a lot of fun - my favourite recording is titled 20140308 Home Free & Voice Play - Survivor - Ahh - bass love...
Even though VoicePlay usually is my favourite, in this (and in The Sing Off as a whole) I prefer Home Free. Both are always good, though, and this is a fun video 😊
Hopefully after the Spooky month, you can check out HF and the Philharmonics do the Caddy Shack theme on the Sing Off. try to watch it with the back story to make it even more meaningful. 🎶🥰
There is a live version of this number where the two groups are on stage together. VoicePlay has a different woman singing with them and the groups are not in costume like they are here. The acted ending is a bit different also. I think it ends funnier.

I will always prefer VP over any other group. That's not to say I don't love Home Free.😅 VP are just more my style. The show made VP find a female singer for their group. They got their friend Honey to come on board with them.
@@SirHairless VP had auditioned several times and basically been the runner up each season until the 4th when the producers told them to add a female singer. They auditioned with Rachel Potter and got cast, but then Rachel was on X-factor and couldn't do both shows so they invited Honey LaRochelle to join. It sounds like a lot of who succeeded or failed was orchestrated by the producers, which didn't give VP much room to do their own thing. A lot of what makes them great is their theatrics and personalities, which is hard to show in quick sound bites.

The audience is the real winner here, both groups are great.
In this song, I give the win to VP.
