Maybe the bugs were just admiring the stairs

The amount of time you probably spent banging a plastic bottle against the desk just to get the running sound is what's keeping me laughing 😂

Itching is the worst sensation. Because itching the itch makes the itch worse. So much worse.

My family bought a second hand night stand and it infested our house with bed bugs. They reproduce so fast, it was shocking how fast we went from zero to hundreds. We also tried home remedies that unfortunately did not work. We contacted professional exterminators and I guess maybe the stuff they use is stronger now? We only had to leave the house for an afternoon, not 3 days. And thank goodness it worked because moving was not really an option for us. But it’s so weird to walk through a house that’s been bug bombed because you find all of the other dead bugs you didn’t even know you had living there, like spiders and stuff. But I agree it was super traumatizing and I don’t know if I will ever buy second hand furniture ever again.

We had a similar hell with rats. To this day I'm still cautious around the cracks in my house and paranoid of scratching in the night.

This is the reason I can pick up bugs with my hands now, not even being scared.

For those who are currently struggling with this issue and can’t afford an exterminator, a good home remedy would be to clear out the rooms one by one and spray the walls with isopropyl alcohol(has to be 70% isopropyl alcohol or more).
Make sure to clean the rooms then check for holes in the walls and floors and seal those off and spray them down with alcohol. Then afterwards spray all the furniture, spraying every crevice before putting it back in the room (I suggest throwing away anything that involves too many cracks and crevices that they can hide in, like an old couch or an old grandfather clock) .
Make sure to stay put in one area of the house so that way they don’t spread as much and unless you’re spraying the area down, don’t enter the empty rooms, you might have one on ya’ and that one bed bug can cause hell again. Wash EVERYTHING, check every corner and fold on every item.
It’s exhausting and can take multiple weeks but it has worked for me.

I’ve never dealt with bed bugs, but I currently live in the basement bedroom, and the amount of bugs I have to pretend not to see to feel comfortable is wild. 😭 they like to crawl up the drain of my bathroom (also downstairs) so I have to always check the bath before sitting down in it cause a bug may be crawling around. We live in front of a wooded area, so it’s only to be expected.
Not saying my experience is anything as bad as yours. Just sharing an anecdote. 😅

i had an experience with cat fleas once cuz a stray cat was hanging out by my room's window near the bed-- and it was OPEN
-- thankfully i got rid of it by using the "mini lamp over a plate of dishsoap" method and a bedbug spray. smells like serai tho.

i've only ever had a milder case of bedbugs, not too severe but it was kinda bad. I keep waking up in the morning with more and more bitmarks on my arm until it look like a minefield. I wasn't peeved but my mom was because now my arm has little scars from me scratching. we checked the mattress and hiding there were the bedbugs. we threw out the matress and got a new one (it was old anyway). then my mom disinfected the whole room and till this day no more bedbugs

I had finally procured my own room after living all my life sharing with my slobby older sister. In my room, we assembled a firm dark-oak bunk bed, tall enough on the bottom to sit up without bumping your head. It was a small area, but the double windows flooded it with light and really bring my paintings to life, so I was content.
Then, they arrived. Bumps. Red. Itchy. Multiplying.
I told my parents about it and they blamed fleas from the pets. (Odd because I wash my bedding once a week and vacuum before painting/drawing/ lifting weights on the floor.)
I did my research, preserved shells on tape, and created a presentation to prove Bed Bugs were the plague causing these bumps. TWO WEEKS. My parents didn't believe me with EVIDENCE. They read an article of "Bed Bugs: Fictional bugs" "Imagination". And they made fun of me. Two weeks of itching, sleep deprivation, and finally an insane night of taking a box cutter and listening to their eggs satisfyingly "pop"; one less pest.
After the third week, my brother got the same bumps on his skin and blood spots on his bed. Our parents allowed me to move to the room over, so I might have rest during school. (Yes, I upheld a 3.94 GPA during this hellish time.) It was then that I entertained burning the bunk bed; you see, if you shined a light through the slits, you could see them scurry around-- shadows of beads with your DNA in their exoskeletons. Unacceptable thieves.
I was given permission to disassemble the bunk bed and turn the room inside-out, and-- finally- clean every corner or throw away what couldn't be saved.
My brother's bunk wasn't so infested and I helped him get rid of them before it got to my level (I would wake up, turn on my lights, and they would be crawling above me, falling from panic, sometimes.)
Sadly. I now have a metal frame that my head bumps from occasion. Fortunately, I have a metal frame bunk bed we could douse in Kerosene need-be and roast some marshmallows.
Yes. PTSD 100% I can't stand the saying "Sleep tight, don't let the Bedbugs Bite." Whoever came up with that phrase should be subjected to constantly concentrated infested areas of such.
I have had fleas, roaches, head lice, but nothing compares to the insect engineered by purgatory itself unleashed onto the Earth as some sick joke between the fallen angels and their unholy offspring.
No one deserves to go through this.
Bed Bugs are known to grow immunity to poison. Just kill them with fire.

We had a very similar hell with mice and pigeons. They had their home on our attic and at night you could literally hear them scurring in the walls. It was creepy and uncomfortable. The previous owner casually forgot to tell us I suppose...We got rid most of them, but over time you kinda learn to live with it *sigh*

Sadly my family don’t get itchy when bed bugs bite them (beside my mom, idk about my brother) but my family say it because I allergic to them (along with ants and other bugs) so I feel you pain, and it suck you have to deal with that for an year, I normally just deal it it for the summer (cause ants lol).

My aunt, who was heavy smoker and going to rehab at the time, stayed with me and my family (I was like middle school age). She slept in my older brother's room since he no longer stayed there. So, after few months of living here she had leave since she didn't want to get better in my parent's perspective. I wanted to sleep in my older brother's room since I missed sleeping in his room with him ( he had pull out mattress in his room that I used to sleep on while he slept in his bed) that when I gotten bitten by bed bugs all over my body that my mom had to take me to ER to figure out what happened.
