      Both stunning bikes, I'd be happy with either, but having an emtb already I struggle to see how I'd ever go back to an analogue bike. Like most people I told myself I'd still ride my analogue after getting my emtb .... you just won't touch it. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Emtb every time.

    As a bigger rider with 25 yrs experience , I researched the heck out of the ebikes for the last 8-9 months....I knew it would be a good choice for me and my very hilly local trails. I was fortunate to find a Trek Rail at a nearby shop and love it.! I had a very nice Santa Cruz Hightower trail bike that did everything well, however the Rail not only does everything well, it’s opened up my local trails to where I’m able to ride way more of the fun techy climbs and descents in a much shorter amount of time and also do some exploring without the concern of making a steep climb or conserving energy for the return trip home. So I can do nice big 20 mile ride with 4K of climbing and come home after and be able to take my daughter out for a ride on the trails as well. I can even help give her a boost up some of the steeper trails which improves the fun factor for her as well.
    So for capabilities, fun factor and time savings it’s no contest. The EMTB wins out !!
    Climbing and Smiling....what a Concept!

    It would be interesting to see an energy or calorie consumption comparison for the riders. I know you still get a workout, elevated heart rate, breathing hard etc on the emtb, but it would be interesting to see what the difference in the actual workout is.

    • @itarry4
      @itarry4 3 роки тому +3

      Same as anything like this. You can go as hard as you want on either. MtB you can totally shuttle up and just ride down or ride up and down and ebikes you can do the same or put in turbo and take it easy or keep in eco and still ride as hard up steeper more technical climbs. It totally depends what you want. Many pro CXMtB riders use ebikes to train because of this very thing. They get to practice more technical skills get just as hard a work out or on the days they are going for a easy ride they find it even easier to keep their heart rate low and, at a stead state which is apparently very handy and important. It means when they do come to a climb on the easy ride day they can turn up the power to get up it keeping the heart rate level. Let's face it its hard to find a long enough ride that's totally flat so you can ride it totally at same watts so the ebikes solve this issue.

      @Will99x 3 роки тому +1

      Yes you can put the same effort in on an ebike, but the sustained effort on regular bike would be longer if it takes you longer to climb the same hill - for what that's worth

    • @itarry4
      @itarry4 3 роки тому +1

      @@Will99x yhea it's just quicker if you work as hard as you would on a traditional MtB or yes you can be lazy if you want. The pros seem to love the fact that it's far easier to sustain a level Wattage or heart rate no matter the terrain. Obviously you can still work as hard otherwise the CX riders wouldn't use them other than on easy days. Their biggest benefit though is obviously to DH riders who now ride back up, get more runs and to practise their bike handling and are probably not having to go out on a road bike or some other exercise to get the fitness as much as they are riding back up the trails.

    My Meta Power SX Race arrived today and I've already put 34km and 600m of climbing on it. I plan on doing a whole lot more over the weekend. Stoked with it. I still have my full carbon Stumjumper for those days when I want a nimble, playful bike and now I have a monster truck Ebike for when I want to go fast, do crazy climbs or just squeeze in a few more laps.
    That 25km/h limit must be annoying as heck. In NZ it's 32km/h and even that feels restricting sometimes. I can understand that you wouldn't want a novice riding at 40km/h but for an experienced mountain biker, it's easy. Hopefully they change the law to 40km/h at some point in the future.

    The take away ebike puts old fella smiles ahead of fit young lad in denial ;-)
    The argument is kind of mute if you want to ride all day everywhere your heart fancies emtb. If you want to go home early spend half the time recovering and pushing you bike up then MTB. I still ride a MTB (emtb on order) lets face it you probably spend more time MTB'ing in the same time frame with an emtb than mtb. My less fit mate might even make a full afternoon riding without looking like he's been water boarded.
    I think a 30day elevation change emtb vs mtb would be interesting. Each day having to complete X distance with X elevation something moderately challenging, with a blog style insight before/after each ride. Maybe a sports scientist to give you a data on rider fittness/heath/immunity progression.

    Thank you for all your great videos. I have kind of a weird question. I have a heart condition and I used to ride bike occasionally, but was semi active in other things as well. But it's been quite a few years now and I have a heart condition that makes things more difficult. I keep wanting to find something physical that I actually want to do, and riding bike is something that I keep thinking of. the problem that I run into is that the less expensive bikes which seem to be kind of cheap and junkie have a throttle that allows me to not have to pedal if I get too tired. While the good quality bikes all seem to use pedal input which I worry could be a problem if I hit a hill that was a little too hard, although the steepest hills that I try and climb would not be that steep. So my question is, do you know of a high quality bike from a reputable brand that also has a throttle separate from the pedal input? There are so many brands out there and it's so confusing because many of the components seem to be in-house brands or odd brands, so I just don't know if any of them are decent or not. Most of my riding would be packed gravel roads and Street with an occasional trail. The trails would be fairly easy but may have a fairly steep Short Hill or something of that nature. I don't plan on catching big air or running down the side of a mountain at 100 miles an hour. Anyway sorry about the long question, but you guys seem to really know your stuff and I enjoy watching so I value your input. Thanks again in advance and blessings...
