How to Make Edible Cake Decorating Glue. I show how I make an edible cake decorating glue with Tylose Powder and water in a small bottle. The bottle looks like an empty nail polish bottle that you can get from cake decorating supply shops. Do not use an old nail polish bottle - it has to be one that has never had nail polish in it. Once your glue is no longer usable you can throw the contents out and wash the bottle and brush with boiling hot water and reuse.
If you want the exact measurement which you can use in a larger container with a lid - it is 1 teaspoon tylose powder to 1/4 cup of boiled water and mix. The powder wont mix straight away - looks like white powder lumps in the water. You need to leave it over night for it to dissolve properly. Then it looks clear and then you can use a small brush and use it as a glue to stick your fondant cake decorations on or for gluing your sugar flowers etc. It is much stronger than just using water.
It can be like a thick gel consistancy or more runny depending on how you like to use your glue. If it is too thick for your liking than add a little more boiled water and mix it in to thin it out.
Some people say you need to throw it out after 3 days use, others say a week but I have known people who have used it for up to a month and then thrown it out to make a new batch.

Nail polish bottle is a fabulous idea! In my area, bottles are available at Sally's. I don't know other stores. Substitute for Tylose Powder is Gum Arabic or Gum Trek. Can also substitute a water/sugar mix of 80-90% sugar, 20-10% water. How thick do you want your glue? Bring to boil & melt sugar completely. Not as good, but okay in emergency or where ingredients are not readily available. I used it for years until I discovered Tylose Powder. Absolutely love the idea of nail polish bottles. Brushes can be trimmed down to smaller sizes & work perfectly. Many Thanks!

Fondant absorbs moisture from the air so wont dry the way you would like for figures. If you want to use fondant for figures you need to add tylose powder to it - about a teaspoon to a medium handful of fondant and knead through. Tylose powder acts as a hardening agent so that your fondant figurines will dry and set right. It also depends how much humidity is in the area you are at the time as to how much you add in.

No sweetie dont use an old empty nail polish bottle. The one I'm using is from a cake decorating supply shop that has never had nail polish in it. You could just use a small clean container with a lid of some other sort and a small brush with it - it doesnt have to be a bottle like this.

How on earth do you get the Fondant to hold its shape and dry??? Or should I be using something else? My palm trees would not dry. I had to run wire through at the last minute. Thank You.

Its just easier to mix them in the way she does it because if you put water in first then the powder it can just float on the top and make a bit harder to mix it in :)

i think. instead you put the powder inside of the bottle. make the liquid in big bottle. after it done. then pour in the smallest bottle. Just to make your job easier lol....
