Just turned 39 I want to accomplish something but the time fabulous and 40 comes around. I work in the mental health field currently as a direct Support professional I work with individuals with mental and physical disabilities. I really want to obtain my associates in the human services field first. I just don’t know if I want to stay in mental health or back in geriatrics. I have a soft spot for the elderly. I’ve messed up so much in my younger years this won’t be my first go around with going to school this time I just want to finish. Complete something thank you so much for this video I just hope that when I get my masters I will still be employable or at least making a good amount of money if I decide to stay in my career field. I appreciate you for this.
I’ve made the decision to go back to school to complete my bachelors in Business Administration. I have 3 boys, one in college, one with his foot out the door of high school (senior), and one 7th grader. You hit the nail on the head for me when you said you felt unfulfilled, like something was missing. I’ve always regretted not finishing college, and I’m through with regrets. I’m doing something about it and putting my regrets to bed. Thanks for letting us know we aren’t alone.
Thank you for your heartfelt comments. You are so welcome!! Congratulations on making the decision to finish college. Enjoy the journey!! I'm so excited for you!!
I’m a 37 wife and mother 3 teens that start college in a year or two and I applied for the first time last week! I’m terrified!! I am going to major in Cognitive Neuroscience and I will probably be 52 when I finish lol
Hey Jennifer! You have me over here crackin' up! You will NOT be 52 when you graduate!🤣 I know how scary going to college for the first time can be, but I promise you can totally do this!! And I love your choice of major. Cognitive Neuroscience is fascinating! You will learn so much. Keep me posted on your journey, and know that I'm rooting for you!!🖤☀️🎉🎊🙌🏾
Thank you for the video! I’m 36 and 2 young kids (4 and 9). I have my associates degree and have been thinking for years to complete my BA in psychology and then go on to a masters for counseling. I’m torn because I don’t want to take time away from my kids and home because taking care of my kids is so important to me! I would love to hear how you’ve been able to balance kids and your own school. 💗🌷
Had my children raised them to the best of my ability, they are all in the higher education system. I am in my forties and in my last year of degree. Black don't crack and I still look good actually I look 25 years old. Anyway, best decision made definitely worth doing. I say go for it and continue on your journey. Yes, I heard people ask me why are you at university at your age, I tell them because I want to progress in life. ( My children were my focus now I am my focus. Anyway, nevertheless almost finished. What a proud moment it will when all is completed.

@@TikaTheOriginal Thank you Tika! :) honestly one thing I'd love to see is going through the whole process of researching schools, taking the GRE and finding funding. I’m thinking of going to grad school. I’m 42 and graduated college 20 years ago. This was helpful and encouraging. I’m taking an online class to test the waters right now.

Thank you for the video. I am starting back to school again at 46. I had graduated from college years ago. I wanted to go back to school because of a career change. I'm studying Accounting Technology to become an Accountant or work in the Accounting field. Even though I am taking online classes I still feel excited about it and so far off to a good start. When I'm done I would either take CPA Qualifying classes or go for a bachelor or Master in Accounting. It sounds like a long time away but just want to think ahead of what I want to do.
You're so welcome! It sounds like you have a great plan. Finance is a great field, and there is always a demand for professionals in this field. I'm rooting for you! What other content would you like to see me create that would be helpful to you as a older/non-traditional college student?
Well nothing right now. But if there is a older non traditional student is starting out taking classes. Pick out your classes early and do some practice study say month or 2 before the semester starts. By doing that students will be ready and they won't be surprised. That's what helped me so far I'm getting a A in Accounting. I got 99 and 92 in the exam. Business Law I'm getting an A. I would have been happy getting B's in both classes but so far so good.
I've been a working stiff since age 19 in a good paying job, but you get so lost in the repetitive day after day, year after year. I have nothing to show for it at age 40, as I am. But I'm trying to change. I love your 5 steps. Bless!

Thank you for the info. I am interested in returning to grad school at 42 to complete my Ph.D. I am more concerned about the significance at this point seeing that society and the economy has change greatly since the 90s
Hey! I understand your concern. I'd say consider why you want to pursue the Ph.D., weigh the pros & cons, and consider options/alternatives. Pursuing a Ph.D. is a huge commitment and sacrifice. Make sure you're ready and that taking the leap is worth it. If this is your heart's desire and you find that it's worth it for you, then I'd say GO FOR IT!!
I like her story...especially coming from a married woman with children. That women can still be in a happy marriage and still fulfill their career ambitions. Well done!
Thanks for posting this! I’m 40ish and want to make a big career change. Was going to apply to get an MA in mental health counseling but still needed some prerequisites so taking a couple of psych classes at the community college first. I’m so nervous due to the length of time 20+ years since I was in college and also the classes being online instead of in person. Hope I can keep up with the technology as you said!
Thank you for this video, very nice. I moved out at 18 and dropped out of HS for a job I didn't love. Then bought a house and start a family. Ever since, I have regretted my decision to drop out and tried many times to go back to school during my 20s couldn't afford it because of having small kids and I needed a job to pay mortgage (my husband income alone can not cover all expenses)Finally, now at 39 and turning 40, I have paid down most of my mortgage and kids are older now, I feel the need to get out there and improve my self and my skill sets. It took me almost a year to come up with the decision because my age gap and I was afraid of judgements but it's comforting to see alot of people all ages going back. There are actually a few of the class mates my age and we became friends. For me, it's about self improvement and fulfillment. I just take part time classes in the evening and working part time during the day. I will finish whenever I finished. Don't want it to be pressure but learn what I can and enjoy the knowledge gained from the experience. I notice that get things faster than when I was younger but I also forget it too fast. Memory and distraction issues are something I'm dealing with.
Thank you for sharing your story Lisa! Going back to school over 40 is definitely not easy, but it'll be so worth it in the end. Good luck to you on your journey!

I'll be 40 this year and thinking about a BA in psychology....I already have one in Sociology but Psychology is what I'm interested in (I think I was just too afraid to pursue that when I was 18). I worked in various fields, mainly tech, I'm thinking if it's too late.
Im terrified to go back to college. I dropped out in my 20s. Im mid 30s now. I just feel old? Idk if could sit in class with young kids? Feel out of place.
You can do it! Get focused, be courageous, surround yourself with like-minded folks, and be prepared to work hard. Don't worry about external things that are out of your control. Remember why you started this journey, and reflect on how it can positively change your life. Let these things motivate you to finish what you started. Peace, luv, and light!
Hi Tika, when I took my classes in the spring it had been 10 years since I had taken any college courses and honestly I forgot how to study, I am a Paris and I didn't realize it would be so difficult parenting small children and taking college courses the coronavirus quarantine did not help at all and I actually ended up failing my classes so I thought I could handle two classes but in fact I could not anything you upload about your journey as a college student would be beneficial to me thank you
And I did! Finished my 2nd Master's degree at 47. Now, I'm 50 and working on my PhD! Should I make videos about my PhD journey? Thank you soooo much for the encouragement!
Don’t go to college unless you know what you want to study 📚 yes it’s a great experience, yes it’s it’ll open doors for you, yes you can go abroad and meet people from all around the world, but at the end of the day, it’s a business and that’s the bottom line. So when you get in there, go sit with that counselor and get that education plan created immediately. Do not waste any time but most importantly, do not take out any student loans! Study hard, apply for scholarships, grants, and financial aid. Get very familiar with counselors and the bursars office..
Thanks for sharing your experience. I was chosen to do my Bsc. In psychology . im 40. Im a HR professional. But really wanted to psychology since younger age. Im little confused and fear back of my head for many reasons. Currently im out of work and there's huge gap since i pursued my associate deg. Which means my mind isn't fresh like those days. And the other set back is i worked in a larger IT company before, with lots of stress. that made me really sick and i became IBS person as a result. This really hinder for many of my routine work. I'm just wondering how i balance study and other things. And if stress hit back, will i be sick again.
I’m 33 and deciding if I should get my PhD or masters. I really want my PhD but I feel like starting at 34 might be a little late for me. Thank you for the insight.
You're so welcome Shay! For the record, 34 is still so young. If you're willing to put in the work, you can do it. I know people who started PhD programs in their 40's and 50's. Trust me, it's very doable! Whichever degree you decide to pursue, I'm rooting for you and excited about your future!
I get the feeling of "it's too late", believe me, I've had that all my life related to various pursuits. If this helps, I'm 39 wanting to pursue a Psychology degree and I wish I'd have started at 34...
@@andreac647 thank you! It’s nice to know others fear the same thing. I feel like I’ll be starting work so late but I also feel like what’s the point in all of this education if I’m not doing what I really want to do. Good luck to you!
Try to use CANVAS with an "out of date browser"... good luck. Can't get the college emails with the professor saying school started a week earlier than the schedule says. Pay $104.99 for some online book with no refund. Right. Gee, wonder why older folk don't go to school? >_

Hi Lisa! I hope all is well with you and your family. Are you ready to go back to school? Well, I wanted to reach out to you to let you know that I just posted a new video. Please check it out: ua-cam.com/video/hrFTbUd6rDg/v-deo.html I'd love for you to subscribe to my channel if you haven't already done so. Peace & blessings!
Hey Lisa! What other content would you like to see me create that would be helpful to you as a older/non-traditional college student?
@@TikaTheOriginal thank you. I will. I want to do it.
Thank you so much because I just enrolled and even that process was foreign. I'm not 40 yet but I'm almost 38 and yes my brain is different.
You're welcome!! Congratulations and enjoy the journey. You got this!!💜

Hi Tika, when I took my classes in the spring it had been 10 years since I had taken any college courses and honestly I forgot how to study, I am a Paris and I didn't realize it would be so difficult parenting small children and taking college courses the coronavirus quarantine did not help at all and I actually ended up failing my classes so I thought I could handle two classes but in fact I could not anything you upload about your journey as a college student would be beneficial to me thank you
@@MamaMcCraziesandNem Got it! Ok. Thank you!

I work with 6 people all in our late 40’s, and 5 of them got their bachelors; they all started in their 40’s and did it. If they can do it so can you.
Merci beaucoup pour votre video
I'm 25 and I just started my bachelor's in multimedia design and I will also do my masters in cinematography
Thank you for your video I’m an early 30s
Thank you

@@TikaTheOriginal when did you find time to study ? I can only study at night a couple of hours daily.
I like the part about keeping it real about the learning curve that comes with age.
Thank you so much! Yes, that learning curve is so real. So glad you enjoyed the video.

2018?! How did it go?
I graduated with a 4.0 in 2020. I'm a LPC with my own private practice, and I'm in my first year of doctoral school working on my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. #Winning 💜☀️
ITV Class....is it safe to say it's a live streamed class?
Hi Cree Blu! Yes, you can say it's live streamed. However, not available to the general public.
@@TikaTheOriginal Gotcha!
I've just applied to school again after graduating college the 1st time in 2015. Although I've been a recent student, this video was a huge help. Thank you!
@@creeblu5413 I'm so glad that this video was helpful for you! I was also thinking that ITV class could also be looked at like having a Zoom call, except everyone is in one classroom in one city and the rest of the students are in a classroom in another city. Does that make sense?
@@TikaTheOriginal It makes complete sense! Thank you!
@@creeblu5413 You're welcome. Good luck to you on your journey!
How about scholarships?
Watching this thinking you think ITV and Blackboard is some crazy technology wait till you hear about Zoom lol
