Loving your Content Joshua. I'm Glad to hear that Nelson has professionals like you now. I remember my days when I was based in New Zealand back in the years 2005 to 2012, and back then South Island had nothing for films & Videos at all. Accept WETA. By the way, I learnt film making in Auckland, but my family was based in Blenheim. I wanted to be with my family there but due to lack of business in fims and video production, I had to stay up in Auckland.Anyways, I am back in India since 2012 but missing Blenheim, Nelson, Auckland and rest of New Zealand heaps.. Wish to see it often in your videos. What a gorgeous world it is. Well, wish you and your family all the luck and prosperity. I will keep following your content. Good Luck.

Hey Sachin, great to connect! Awesome to hear you were based here once! Nelson is absolutely a beautiful place to live but yes, the industry here needs a lot of work. We are getting there and have enjoyed 5x years of our company growing here in Nelson which has been great. All the best from NZ.

Man, I seriously appreciate your personality and perspective on this. I’ve been a full time filmmaker for 3 years and I’m in the middle of switching from Premiere to Davinci. You’ve been very helpful for me in this regard, but beyond this, you have incredible insight into business and work/life balance, which is so important for me as a father of 3 girls. Keep it up! I really appreciate what you’re doing and am following along.

Very centering and inspirational. Thanks as always. On the Davinci techniques front, how about a "Documentary Editing Part 2: Assembling the main timeline from a well-organized project"? That would be really useful, at least for me! Thanks

Yo, ChatGPT. Write me an awesome UA-cam comment for Josh in the style of Quentin Tarantino:
"Yo, Josh Kirk, let me tell you something, you ain't just a filmmaker, you're a survivor. The road to running a video production business ain't no easy feat. But you, my man, you've taken those challenges and learnt them the hard way, just like a true veteran of the game.
You see, over 50% of small businesses fold within the first 5 years, but you, you're in the upper echelon, the elite, the ones who make it to the other side. You're the one who'll be standing when the dust clears, wielding that camera like it's a six-shooter, and filming the end of days.
I'm talking about sustainability, longevity, the name of the game. You're the one who's gonna make it, and I'm sure you'll be here for the long haul. So, let me raise a glass to you, Josh Kirk, the survivor of the video production business, and thanks for sharing your hard-earned wisdom with us all. Cheers."

Great video! I'm looking at starting my own freelancing video business in the next 12 months or so - this is helpful! Do you often subcontract shooters to help out, or are you 100% in house?

Hey Luke, Cheers for the comment. We have found in our context it has been easier and more efficient / cost-effective to do everything in house. On larger shoots we will hire in a sound operator or a drone crew but for the most part, the productions we work on are achievable with our small team of 6.
