So what did i conclude about the Mini?
Main Pro's;
- Much better interior than the R53.
- Gorgeous bodywork
- Turbo over supercharger (personal preference)
- Updated specs (sat nav, heated seats etc)
- JCW pack (more BHP, brembos, bodykit)
- Much more 'sporty' feel
- Noise is amazing
Main Cons;
- Not as nimble as previous models
- Doors are a pain
- Parts are expensive due to BMW
- Car feels a lot heavier
- Standard suspension is soft
I hope you all enjoyed the review, the car is fun and sounds awesome! I just wish it had that bit of extra 'umph' from either a torque increase or a significant weight loss!

Speedo being in the middle is BMW trying to give the feel of the original mini. My first motor was a 1978 mini and you didn't need to worry about the speedo as you never went fast enough to worry about it.
Pink top and holes in the jeans, I'm glad you didn't like the R53 you would give 53 drivers a bad name. Infact the R53 is the best of all the new minis .
Totally agree. R53s rule.
I don't agree it's "the best" just because it's supercharged and more go-kart like. The R56s (JCW) feels more sophisticated in almost every sense of the word, which is what a lot of new mini owners are seeking since it's a german car now. Regardless that one still feels like a go-kart even with more a more comfortable cockpit and seating.

You must of drove a dud r53, they feel great. Prefer the supercharged r53 to the turbo r56 any day. BMW had to make the first one good so the mini would succeed. Each to there own, love the vids mate.
I agree the supercharger noises are soooo amazing... but the R56 looks so much better and the fuel consumption is like twice better thanks to Turbo

Clearly did no research about the car before this video. its either a Cooper S pretending to be a JCW (190 HP) or a JCW (210 HP). as its clearly not the top model and hasn't got Recaros. I don't even own an R56 and this bugs me, it didn't feel like a balanced review to me.

They don’t all come with recaros it’s an upgraded option. Pretty rare..

it is a 211 hp model as what he said... there's nothing more "top"... unless you want to know if it has Harman Kardon... and Recaro seats don't add any more horse power... GP models also dont have rear seats.... seriously dude... you do the research first before talking TRASH...
Nice review Lee, I've driven a Works Mini on my job & didn't like the hard run flat tyres it had. Best looking HOT hatches ever are 1. Lancia Delta Integrale & 2. Audi S3 8L
Also you’re wrong saying these run awful with a cone filter, I gained 20hp without a tune from installing the AEM kit! It might be the best part of £400 just for the intake but it most defo makes a difference over stock!

A lad I knew worked for Halliwell jones BM dubya years ago. We went cruising in the "new" mini round Leyland and I kid you not we could've been in a LAMBORGHINI 😜 and not got as many looks.

You should of taken a photo of the pot hole that punched the Tyre, council will reimburse you the cost of the repair
Used a small Ammount of silicone lube spray on the locks and door hinge mechanism and the doors are like silk on my JCW
Couldn't even open my door when we had snow. Mini door handles are pretty poor
Did you have the r56 or r53? I never noticed any problems with mine it was a 2002 model r53
Have a 2009 and no problems with the driver or passenger's door handle. Squeeze it fingers into palm

Actually broke the door handle on my R53 due to snow and ice ingress, bust the internal mechanism, a well known fault and a £300 repair bill!
Bigger turbo, bigger brakes, different air filter, mapping, lightweight wheels... Quite a bit different to the standard S.
Going to look at an R56 Cooper S tomorrow! :) - hopefully will be adding it to the stable to join the Golf R for a bit - (FWIW you can get the speed readout in MPH on the rev counter as well)..

R 53 for ever.. this is the real new generation mini...A car for people that love to drive.. Not for everyone..A car is not only the interior design and the plastics quality... If you hate it then unluckily for you you never felt what a real sophisticated car is like...

I have a lightly modded R53 and I absolutely love it! Came from an ST150 and it’s a lot faster and a lot more upmarket than the Fiesta... not really sure why you didn’t like the one you drove, each to their own. The supercharger whine for the R53 is insane!

very tempted to get myself one of these extremely fun car. You can get recaro wingbacks seats for the mini with the John cooper works stitching but they are rare! I agree the standard seats are shite, from the other videos of 270bhp minis they just spin all the time so why doesn't this one?

I’ve heard nothing but good about all minis. My brother just bought a supercharged Cooper s that needs work. Never driven one before looking forward to testing his soon as it’s sorted
Even the Base 1.6 Mini Can can be good fun. They might only have 105bhp but I still enjoyed driving one every time I hopped in my girlfriends old Mini.
Clearly not a petrol head, if you were you wouldn’t have solely ranted on about the r53’s interior and spoke more on how a great drivers car it is. Yes I think everyone can agree the interior hasn’t aged well, but one thing that has is the character and dynamic adjustability the r53 has in abundance over the r56 and certainly the new f56 models. Coming from someone who’s owned all 3 generations the r53 has Sharper handling, sharper change of direction, sharper throttle response, shaper steering and is overall the more superior driving tool, any driver worth his weight in gold knows this.
It’s all about the driving experience not the looks or interior minis are sick

Had the R53 when I was younger, it was decent when I was 18, but looking back it’s put me off superchargers, turbo all the way

FuelHeadsUK hello.. downpipe.. itg panel filter and uprated spark plugs.. airtec intercooler was done by derv tech tuning!
Door handles are shit.it feels heavy.its not fast.poor tyres and suspension. It's a heap of shit basically.

"Door handles are shit" Yep that makes the whole car crap.
It might not feel fast but it is, it's because it isn't torquey down low and peak power is near redline so it loves to be revved.
"Poor tyres and suspension" is down to the owner. If you add 33% more power and you are on the same suspension as before then that's not really fair is it.
Also for me it's been faultless in 15 months apart from little things which have gone wrong due to my modifications like strut brace rubbing on brake vacumn hose and turbo inlet pipe/seal because it's running 280hp.
Question who paid for the tyre?

Speedo in the centre is a styling cue back to the original mini which had it in the centre. As are the toggle switches.
I just sold a 2010 JCW (non S) so actual JCW and I must say they are super fun cars round corners but just not fast enough, and built pretty poorly. Mine only had 38000 on the clock and I was forever spending money on it to get it working properly.
If it wasn't a Cooper S it wasn't a Real JCW, it could have been a 99hp job with a JCW bodykit

Lee, you should start mounting an external mic from your gopro either to the back of the car or in the engine bay, this will eliminate the wind noise and give us a nice engine/exhaust note to listen to with the external clips, I know its a bit of extra work but I think will be worth it.

I have this exact same car, a 2009 factory JCW. It’s decently fast and handles like a go kart. But it rattles like crazy and feels cheap. Reliability sucks. In three years of ownership and under 20,000 miles of driving, I’ve replaced a turbo and collapsed intake tube ($3500), replaced a clutch ($3000), replaced a cracked rim ($500), replaced brakes twice ($650).
I also own a BMW 135i. It’s faster, much more refined, and much more reliable.
They were roughly the same price new.
Mini's are serious bits of kit. The only reason i won't buy one is the speedo is in THE CENTRE OF THE DASH. WHY? Other than that they are sick.
You can get the Chronopack which puts a speedo/tacho behind the wheel!

But I follow the this jcw on instagram and wanted to see the video but to not like a r53 because of the interior is stupid to be honest it's a drivers car not a fucking rolls Royce. Sorry I am not salty that you don't like the r53 honestly xD but seriously get in a r53 that's been modded right will blow you away.

Sorry I know its your opinion but the r56 isn't a patch on an r53 with the supercharger, you must have driven a bad one. In fact the r53 is one of the best hot hatches ever. The r56 literally has a chocolate engine and is massively Unreliable, it drinks so much oil most pop from lack of oil.

to be fair lee its not a very well specced jcw, you can get alot btr interior and seats etc in a jcw r series check out a few on my channel bud... ive got a r59 roadster factory jcw fully specced

The torque curve on these minis look like a table. Straight up, across and then down. Eaton m45 sc
trust me... you DON'T want to lower Mini .... it's already low and you will destroy the front bumper all the time... just get rid off the car, that's what you'll get most benefit from

The early minis where terrible the waiting list was long so they rushed em out, they rushed em out that fast that in some cases the dash board would jump off its mountings as your drove along.
