Trick questions aren't permissible 😊
1.) We already do that; and 2.) That wouldn't be helpful here because this isn't a court-- the point of congressional hearings is to basically do investigative work and collect evidence, not to actually determine whether or not the already-collected evidence supports a guilty verdict or whether there's a procedural reason for why the evidence can't be admitted.
But, if the advocate can't give a compelling reason for the existence of their new policy, then that can't bode well for protecting the long-term viability of their program.

Her complete refusal and avoidance in answering that one simple question speaks volumes and ultimately demonstrates that even she knows there are inherent differences between biological men and women. This entire thing is idiocy at it's peak.

Answering the "yes or no" question is falling into a trap, because it's reducing the argument at hand into the most basic and reductive thing.
And it isn't so. The NCAA has rules regarding trans athletes, and the Lia Thomas situation wasn't properly accounted for and improperly handled, meaning, further revisions to the rules are to be made.
But saying yes to the obvious men are different that women question is throwing everything else down the drain, because, legally speaking, and as much as everyone hates what I'm going to say:
Lia Thomas is a woman. Legally speaking. Your feelings, beliefs, or thoughts on it are wholesale irrelevant.
What's the outcome of saying women are different than men in this context? Hell, why does that question even happen in this context???
It's basically saying that Lia Thomas is a man, and, again, she's not, because she's gone through legal and medical procedures accounted for in law, to transition from one gender to another.
You, being annoyed with her refusal to answer the most idiotic and out of place question also says one thing: You know nothing of how a debate works.
When you're asked an out of place question, or a question made with ill intent, you're supposed to redirect the argument to the point at hand.
Because these people are arguing about sports competitions and regulations. Not about the inherent differences of physiology within genders.

If there was no difference then there would be no parameters needed to be met. also even if you want to separate sex and gender, title IX has nothing to do with gender, it is segregated based on sex, sex can never be changed. the "procedures" Lia Thomas has gone through still leaves biological and physical attributes that a biological woman (sex) can never achieve.

I'm Swedish and played hockey when I was a teen. My younger cousin later played in the same youth team consisting of boys between 13-14 years old. At their trainings, a grown woman in her 20s used to join and train with them. This woman had played in the highest women's league and also won a silver medal in the Swedish championships for women's hockey. She was no better than these boys. She was an adult. but chose to train with the boys due to her inability to keep up with the pace of the club's men's team. And then I should also add that this men's team played in the lowest league and were only amateurs.
In the vast majority of sports there are two classes, women's sports and open class. There are no rules that stop women from playing with the men, if they can keep up.

Even NPR says there is no fundamental difference between men and women athletes. So there is just two teams. Men’s and Not-Men’s. And someday after girls have learned to train as hard as men they might even be good enough to be in the Men’s team, and then there will be the A-Team and the B-Team, and F-Troop.
Riley Gaines is just an over-the-hill has been loser who can’t accept the fact that a dude in a thong trained harder than she did. If Gaines had wanted the gold all she had to do was work harder instead of standing behind the apron strings of “women’s team” and Title 9.

You don’t get a free lunch anymore, being protected by “girls teams” and title 9. I agree with Ted Cruz, but the "yes/no" questions were loaded. If your argument has merit, it should be able to stand on its own without needing to force a response that you can then twist toward your own agenda.
His final point was far more powerful than the previous lines of questioning, for example.

to answer a yes or no question with a yes or a no goes against all their training, they MUST provide CONTEXT to the question, they must rephrase it, and they must include an entire semester's worth of gender studies lectures in their answer. otherwise they may misspeak and offend someone (someone IMPORTANT, a MARGINALIZED person, not some lowly rabble like a cis white man or something)

It's not that simple. Not all questions are yes/no questions even though they are asked in that manner. Like "Have you stopped abusing your wife? yes/no?". In this case she feels that saying yes or no would imply other things that she does not agree with, so she wishes to clarify that.
