- Check out this guy's room totally change into the movie he is watching! No SFX, no post production, no cuts, everything you see here is 100% for real.
We were funded by the Video Store of PlayStation® Store (www.greatfilmsf...) to make a series of movie related videos using 'Immersive Imaging' which takes 3D projection mapping as its starting point, but gives the viewer a supercharged experience with the help of the PlayStation Move controller.
In the past, projection mapping worked only from a single, static view point, and thus was very limited. By attaching the PlayStation Move to the camera, we can track projections to screens in real time, enhancing the effect of spatial deformation and false perspective on the projections and allowing viewers to look round (virtual) corners, bend walls, create a hole in the wall, or remove the walls altogether to reveal vast expanses of virtual worlds.
Every house in the future should have a 3D projection mapping room. We have the dining room, bedroom, living room blah blah blah, time for a new a new addition. The psychedelic room.
.-.
David D I totally agree!
David D Well you can already do nice mappings at home :)
I use a software that's really easy (and fast) to use for projection mapping.
It's called HeavyM, maybe you should try ^^
Link --> www.heavym.net/fr/
You should read "The Veldt"
I'd want to listen to Pink Floyd in a room like that LOL
It's all about the camera position, from his perspective it wouldn't look 3D at all.
Not necessarily true. By having facial tracking (one person only) it can reorient the room to behave so that it changes how it looks according to the viewer. Example: the camera. It moved around the set, but maintained the illusion by reorienting itslef to be in tune with the camera, the room could do the same
Coll Drake Yes that will work too
yeah, it is real-time anamorphic projection.
"One take"
Mhmm. What about the cut at 0:45?
Got 'em.
Exactly
I love how he is so excited to watch the cameras and people in front of him
Awesome video! Keep up the fantastic work!
THIS U
totally insane. a virtual Tron portal.
eventually we'll be able to not only witness & experience a video from within it as a viewer in a 3D environment, but could actually play a character in a film or video game and interact with virtual characters.
i wish they'd hurry up with that tech.
The 3D elements are based on where the camera is. From his perspective it wouldn't actually look that cool, but it's a neat concept.
You could have the person using an eye tracker, then some insane software moves the projection around in real time based on where his eyes go
What really gets you is that when it starts, you actually think it's a normal room, until you remember the small pieces of pre-production showing it's actually empty, save for the sofa and the table.
If you make some effort, you can see where the floor connects to the wall, but most of the time, you feel like he's in a huge room like X-Men's "Brain" room.
I take it that the main surfaces are projection screens and the images were projected on to them. The guy, fruit, etc. were props. Interesting.
@theparashooters an edit doesn't automatically mean it was more than one take, it does however imply a certain amount of "post production"
Is cool. Most immersive film experience ever yeah I don't know about all that. Technically cool as hell and clearly well thought out and planned with great execution.
@theparashooters when you watch a person traverse across a room with flashing lights, it can produce the same effect. the moment the light begins to flicker, several frames take place during the dark phase.
The biggest delirium of the year. Always use in torture chambers.
@MonTicheDansTaMere the point is, that it doesn't use post animation,, but just blank plane and real time projection.
0:45
Good catch
you know i thought at first glance its live production of movie , its quite interest why you didn't try this kind of work too . thanks in advance david
When he put the Mellon on his head ...I knew it would be epic!
LMAO
I like how people are bitching about the cut, even though little was happening at that point... the main transition from 'room' to 'digital world' was before it.
I love how people are getting annoyed and saying this is fake becuase there was possibly one cut in the video, where microsoft uses previously recorded videos to 'demonstrate kinect'
A number of techniques and equipment are being used but the projection mapping software that allows you to see it is free. It's called VPT and is a pretty stout package.
my brain will explode when you can play games like that at home
@videomeltdown why not? all you'd do is hook the projector up with the camera so that the camera position would affect what the view angles and positions of objects that are projected on the canvas
..and not realizing it's all on/in your head!
@theparashooters Hi, I'm Ian the Art Director on this project. Just wanted to respond to your comment about there being a cut. I can 100% guarantee though there are no cuts or post on any of these films! ;-)
We had a glitch in the export on this take and a few frames were dropped out which causes it to jump. If you look at the other 2 films you'll see there's nothing else like this on them.
Anyway, hope you like them. We're releasing the 'making of' video soon, so you can see how we did it.
Nice projection mapping and indeed looks like no post. A hell of a lot of pre-production went into it but the out come was worth it.
Amon Tobin use this technology for his 3D stage performance for his ISAM live tour. Most amazing live show ive ever seen. Look up: AMON TOBIN ISAM LIVE
so these videos have been around for years. when will this happen?
these sorts of projection mapping are mostly seen at interactive art museums. they're around.
this could be the future of theater, dont hate me for sayin.. :)
yes! that's a cool idea, i think it will be the future of theater.
The future of theatre? I can't wait.
future of theater
future? present instead. as you can see :D just not for us, for developers. but it's present.
VR is the future
1) You would have to track each eye independently, and even track the depth of focus for each cornea, in order to determine the image that the eye should see. That's a lot of calculation.
2) This would have to be done very quickly, since the eyes saccade several times each second. This means that when you look at a face, for example, they look at eye, nose, eye, mouth, chin, forehead, eye, etc. This multiples the required amount of calculation.
actually there's a third guy in the white body stocking, if you look closely he's behind the couch and is the one who places the watermelon on the guys head while the other guy is leaning out from the side just a little to make the can crumple
Did anyone else see that one other dude behind the sofa, putting the red glasses on the dude on the sofa for him?
I had a teleporting leg, until I took an arrow in the knee.
@videomeltdown does it say there was a single projection source anywhere? I believe there were numerous projectors being used for these videos.
holy shit the beginning in the room is all light on a while wall :O
Very cool, but what are the Greendale mascotts doing here ?
reminds me of Mr. Beam's projection projects
What did I just see? Looks amazing.
I think my brain just shat itself.
This video has been selected by the channel as one of the best Gaming videos on UA-cam and was added to the channel's playlist accordingly. Thanks for sharing.

bestofYTchannel
Tron Called . He wants his car keys back .
@theparashooters that's an effect added in during editing, just like the camera flickers
@videomeltdown or it could just be that they have used this technique as a part of the advertising campaign of 'great films fill rooms'. I.e the new improved videostore the PS allows you to watch great films at home?
I don't imagine many people would expect to experience the same thing at home... unless they decided they wanted to paint all of your belongings white and have some live in puppeteers in the home.
why does the lamp never leave the room?
been 8 years. technology is more affordable now... 4k projectors at 100$ popping left to right. so this vr room setup is doable now for any average tech geek
IMAGINE TRIPPING IN THAT.
I thought the same thing.
@Trigun241 So they explain that there is a cut somewhere? Where did you read this? It's just sad cause they start the video by saying that there is no post production.
My living room will never stay that white
@PulpRobot it wasnt an edit, they lost a few frames during the upload thats why they uploaded other versions
lol at the lamp still floating in the background lol
@FJSpoof I may be wrong but currently the Xbox 360 has 57.6 million consoles sold, while the PS3 has sold 55.5 million. My math be off, but 57.6 is larger than 55.5. Also, the Xbox 360, just sold almost 1 million consoles on the week of Black Friday, and although Sony didn't release their numbers, we can expect them to be lower otherwise why wouldn't they release them. Finally, a lot of people don't mind paying for a monthly service because they don't want to lose their credit card information.
thanks I know how to do that, but I would need it for a tv commercial that's why I'm willing to buy it :) and also de sound fx
The strings on the fruit were to compare the basic special effects with the bloody awesome hologram technology.
@stickmand123 look again he right leg is in a completely different position, if you are really have trouble seeing this like I first did, then hold the SPACE BAR from 43 and keep watching.
I didn't do that however I just watched carefully, don't stick by what you saying just becuase you believe it, look more thoroughly!
I want that movie!
@snake88h That's no excuse. A proper crew knows to keep backups and hard copies for that exact reason, but procedures and techniques don't do any good if you don't follow them, and that typically happens when you don't have a proper crew. Somebody had to have looked at it and said "bah, just cut it". They didn't even decide to leave the frame black for the right amount of time. Unless their principle "talent" is The Flash, I have to assume someone simply did not care enough to do it right.
That blew up my cerebro!!! Not at all easy to realise in real time, very cool :)
The guy had an orange on a fishing rod at the beginning
@theparashooters SO. OWNED. Thank you.
They should put the trackers on some glasses, so the player can see this.
@Dizzilion
Thank you Captain Obvious!
Your work here is done.
they explain why there is a cut in the video it's because the data was corrupted so they had to cut it out you people should do some researcher before commenting
@babypeasanimation you're spot on.
One shot / One take, huh? Why is he instantly in a different position on the couch @ 0:44 as if the video was cut in two? Other than being lied to, i love the video.
No strings attached! ^_^
Best answer i have gotten so far...
What happens at 46 seconds. His leg jumps.... no cuts?
who said this was their project? it says movie experience not gaming experience
this must be damn awesome to watch a movie like this ;)
well, "why aren't you?" is the real question
What would of been great is if he didn't know it was all going to happen.
Prank idea. Use this on a super religious person while he or she is napping, and make them wake up in hell.
did anyone else notice the guy standing on the left? 0.38 im guessing he was not suppose to be there.
that was awesome
I used to immersive movie experiance but then i took an arrow to the knee.
Just have this ready for consumers when the PS4 comes out so I can play Modern Warfare 5 in that!
Does sound design count as post production?... No matter cause this vid is awesome regardless.
is it simple to learn? i'm just wanna show this to my lecturer at our Visual Comm. Festival..and i need to unique show...teach me
Whatever with the cut, it's was very real the "gaming experience" lol
So apparently I just Need to put Half a watermelon on my head and I will enter the Universe of TRON!
they projected black for a second he moved looks like a cut doesnt it
Awesome how you can fool the eye with "simple" means !
I have a PC too. The only reason I really have the consoles are for their exclusive games.
Very, very cool.
wow.:) projection mapping is just great.:) if you add some anaglyph 3D images to the scene it would get more depth and could look even more realistic for the viewer.:)
so, this holo deck lets me run into a wall in full immersion.
WOW. Not sure what to say. Amazing! WANT that head melon for Xmas :)
@Trigun241 So essentially post production? If they are gonna say it. Then they have to do it!
What kind of sorcery is that?!?
What mades you think they used Green Screen?
@TannerTeddybear ...and his right hand, as well. OTOH, all the sudden jump means is that something was probably cut out. Watch to the left of the table, starting at 0:47, and you'll see that the projected image of it is badly out of sync. Bad syncing is what they might have cut out.
@1Blakparade I think heard somewhere that the ps4 is coming in 2014... I think.
So his leg suddenly cutting to a new position at 0:45 counts as 1 take?
its not green screen its projection mapping
yup. 3d/projection mapping. next level stuff. I'm starting to see this technic used more and more at shows and concerts. Amon Tobin has an insane show centered around mapping.
MindzEye03rd It's also doing a bit of tracking motion in 3D space. If it was just a projection mapping, as soon as the camera moved, you would see the true geometry of the space, where as here, it adapts the projection to change perspective as the camera does.
Peter Helstrom Not necessarily. If they're using multiple projectors, which they are, the point of view can go wherever it wants without skewing the perceived geometry. Look at what Walt Disney World does with their projection show on the castle. Guests view the show from any number of locations.
Rob Cartwright There's a difference between projecting onto a surface to make it look different, and making it seem as if the surface isn't there at all
Peter Helstrom So you're proposing that they're lying about everything being done in camera?
Sick stuff, guys!
Brilliant... just brilliant!
openframeworks ?
Hope this sort of technology is in the PS4!
is this the Dreamatorium?
I don't quite understand what you're arguing and why you've decided to attack me personally just because we disagree on something. I've taken the time to view works from your channel, and I would like to compliment you on some fine work. That said, I don't know why you think I care who the steadicam operator (a PRODUCTION position) is when I'm referring to the mismatch between what was done in POST-PRODUCTION and what was marketed. Thank you for responding to a conversation that never existed.
if i was baked, this would be awesome
can we do this in after effect
no, this is pure raw unedited. You can put the footage in after effects to compress n stuff I guess, but it ain't green screen; it's projection mapping.
*effects
1:10 is like when the Disco close and you're always stoned...
teach me how to use it
