How To Sew A Zippered Box Cushion Cover
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- This video tutorial goes through a detailed, step by step process of sewing a zippered box cushion cover. How to measure and fit any size cushion you would like to make a cover for. This tutorial teaches the easiest, tried and true method for sewing in a professionally place zipper. I cover how to make a cushion fit tight and with a decidedly professional look.
The box cushion covers in this video are installed in a 4-wheel camper and I follow the instillation as we puzzle though the plan to connect the cushions and then adjust and tweak to make the plan work.
The settee back aspect of the couch, mentioned in the video, is a folding sofa, sleeper hinge and can be found with this link:

I have come back to this tutorial again and again. Thank you so much!
I’m a professional quilter, but I haven’t worked with anything besides quilts a whole lot. I just wanna say that your zipper trick blew my mind. I love it. Thank you!
Thanks so much!!🙏🏼
This is one of the best tutorials I've watched. And thank you for showing the installation process also.
Thank you!!

Hi,
Would you mind to tell what the piece of board on the bottom does and if it changes the softness of the seat?
Thank you very much.
Nice calming music for pulling my hair out trying to get the corners lined up. :). Thank you for showing a lot of ways to adjust to get it looking good.
You are so welcome! Calming music always helps in these situations…🙂
Wow. That is impressive. I sure could've used these tips for my cushion covers in the van last winter! Mine was kind of a hack job. This is so professional.
VaLene Hulme Thanks Bean! Next time I want to see tight corners and zippers- when you and Brent buy and old camper, remodel it and hit the road. (Tempting...)
Best tutorial thus far. Thank you
Thank you for this excellant video, you gave me the confidence to tackle cushions from a camper for a friend.
Glad I could help!
Great instructional video. I've been dragging my feet to replace our van cushions and this video has boosted my confidence. The original cushions were just stapled to the underside and then a bottom piece stapled on. I wanted a zippered cushion for cleaning purposes, a wrap around zipper and the hidden tab. Mostly the videos I've seen are for couch cushions and I'm trying to include the wood from the original cushions. You're video included everything I was wanting. Perfect timing, perfect video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and the great feedback. I am so happy I was able to motivate, sometimes that’s all that really takes- the gumption to get er done! Good luck!😊
Very helpful and informative video! Great to see it step by step. Much appreciated!
Thank you!
Very clear instructions 🙏🙏 hopefully this will help me cover a banquet seat 😊
This is perfect for me! Thank you so much!
A little background. We buried our 100 y/o mother last Saturday. I'm 75 and doing a Sprinter van conversion that will require this kind of effort. In the eulogy, I described how I learned sewing by osmosis as Mom sewed while we watched TV. She won numerous awards at the Los Angeles County Fair, including Best of Show in all crafts one year. I sew now, but wish I knew what I was doing.
Your video was VERY informative, detailed, and easy to follow.
Again, thank you.
I just made a box cushion! Than you so much I watched your video for each step!!! Perfect !
Thank you so much for this video! I'm about to make some box cushions for my sofa at my new home and these tips are going to be so helpful! We really appreciate the in depth steps to make it as perfect as possible. I'm very excited to try the zipper pocket.
Thank you!🙏🏼
my cushion came out perfect and very professional looking. Really great instructions! Tanks!
Great to hear!
Excelente explicación. La mejor que vi hasta ahora. Gracias por compartir este trabajo en forma tan sencilla.
excellent tutorial! best one i’ve seen on how to make these.
Thank you!!
Thank you for posting this! I am making cushions for my diy campervan conversion, and this style was exactly what I was looking for. The way you showed and described each step was perfect. I've just finished my first test cushion cover and it turned out amazingly well for someone with limited sewing machine experience. Thanks again!
Thank you for the excellent feedback, I hope the project is going well!
Wow. Great work from you and whoever filmed and edited your video! I just got back into sewing again and want to get better at it. This really helped! Thank you!
Video was great. I covered a foam cushion for an old wooden chair I found on the side of the road. So easy to follow - thank you.
Thanks for the video! LOVE the editing! Really helps that the video is concise, with excellent closeup pics. The zipper pocket trick is FAB! Great way to get the last bit of fitting to work well. I use an Adler 267, which was much improved by the addition of a servo motor, can slow it up until it's one stitch at a time. Yes, top end speed is reduced, but I'm not doing heavy production work, control is much more important. Now if I could just get the foot lift to work.
Slow stitch speed is very helpful on tricky corners and such. Thanks for the great feedback- filming a project is exhausting... but comments like yours make it all worth it!🙏🏼 Thank you
I'm going to attempt this to make a box cushion cover for the sofa in our Bruder Expedition trailer. Wish me luck :)
Good luck- you’re going to do an amazing job!!👍🏼
@@NoelleODesignsThank you. Where are you getting your zippers from? I'm looking for 28" length give or take an inch but not having much luck.
@@DigClams I believe we got the zippers by the yard from Sailrite. There are lots of places that sell zippers by the yard- just put that in a Google search.
Super helpful & well done! Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Very helpful. I'm working on my camper it this really clarified the steps.
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Aha! Great video I’m doing a project just like this and you clarified everything thank you!
Excellent tutorial…thank you 🙏 for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
I have this video next to my machine and going step by step!!!! The only difference is I'm using faux leather sooo I had to improvise on the zipper and I'm not using wood on the bottom. Great video!!!!
So glad you found the video helpful- I hope your cushions turn out great!😊
I really like the accompanying music too
so wonderful
Great tutorial
This video was a bomb!!! Was wondering if you were ever able to do a video in the pop top :)
Hello, yes! I’m still working on editing it, I’ll try and hurry!
Hi! This video is so informative! May I ask what kind of fabric did you use? I like the texture and color!
I’m not sure what the fabric is exactly- beyond an upholstery weight gray fabric, perhaps sealed against stains. I think it would be fairly easy to find if you search with the above terms. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Did you video making the new top for your friend’s camper too. We need to make a new one and I would love some inspiration!!!
Yes, we remade the whole pop-up part- I just need to edit the video!
Awesome video
Thanks!
Wow me encanta como quedó
Waw j'aime beaucoup tes explication
Thank you!
Fantastic Tutorial, I’m going to follow your instruction while making my 7 cushions! May I ask what weight batting you used pleased as I’m unsure which one to get! Thank you
It depends on how your cushion covers fit. If they are very tight then it wouldn’t be necessary to use very much batting at all. If the cushion covers are a little loose then use a heavier weight batting. In conclusion, I would go heavier over light because it will just compress or fill in the gaps- which is the point!😀 Good luck!!
@@NoelleODesigns thank you for your reply
hello merry Christmas very beautiful video please kindly film how to thread and operate the industrial sewing machine please kindly let me know OK?thank you very much and have a beautiful day 😊
Hello, good idea, although industrial machines all thread somewhat differently. You could probably look up your specific machine for how to thread it properly.
This is a great video, thank you! I am curious about your cutting table - what is the surface made of ? I use self healing cutting mats but would love to have a proper surface on a table that I can cut straight on to…
Hello, the cutting table has a self sealing mat, I ordered it from somewhere online- cut to fit the table so there are no seams. The best part of the table is that it’s standing height that is key!
Hey Noelle...I love this video, can you possibly tell me where you friend got that backrest that turn into the bed extension. I know that this video is old, but its a really great idea.
Do you mean the metal hardware that makes the back turn into part of the bed? I think he ordered it from Rockler- A company that has a lot of woodworking tools but also hardware for projects like this.
@@NoelleODesigns Yes ...thank you I will check their website. Again great video
Now seen this after I catch my royal butt with the corners with the same pockets with the zips hahhaa but now I no thanks a million
Thanks for the tutorial! The only issues I have is lining up my zipper so it’s centered. It always ends up wrapping around a little on one side and a few inches longer on the other side. I’ve taken it out and redone it with the same problem. I think my non zippered side piece is a little too long.
You could definitely trim down the non zippered side. I would wait until it’s time to sew the final little bit, then you can tweak and adjust the side pieces to perfection right before sewing up the final bit. I hope that helps!
@@NoelleODesigns thanks! I was thinking of starting on the opposite side and sewing the zipper area first and when I get back around the extra fabric from the non zipper side could be folded over thus shortening it and making my zipper wraparound area more accurate
Great idea!
너무 도움이 되었습니다. 감사해요. ^^
Thanks a lot
What is the name of your machine/model?
Also why is it SO HARD for me to get my corners lined up and matching?
I still really struggle not to make it look wonkey with one side of the outer corner being slightly off from the corrosponding corner on the other side
In this video I use an industrial Bernina and Consew both likely used in a factory back in the day, both are industrial grade and about 50 years old.
Corners are hard! I would pin the layers EXACTLY where you want them then adjust the fabric layers between the corners as you go. The upper and lower layers will shift as you sew- just the nature of fabric and the feed dogs under the presser foot may pull the fabric through the machine slightly faster than the presser foot on the top. Take your time and keep checking the layers frequently. Thanks for watching!!
What kind of fabric did you use and where did you get it?
It’s an upholstery weight fabric from a local store. You could order fabric online but it’s nice to see it in person and test the quality by handling it first- if you can!
Can you give a video how to sew a piping cution cover with shipper
Great suggestion- I'll see about making a cushion cover with piping. Thanks!
Hello Noelle, I want to do this a a dog bed. If gave you dimensions could send me all the specs and direction how to assemble? I watched the video but due to the material im using id thought it would be wise to ask you first if this is something you'd be interested in doing? id be more then happy to pay your time. do you have an email i can reach out to you at?
Hi Bo, you’re on your own on this one, the good thing is dog beds don’t have to be a super specific size and all the instructions you need for assembling are in this video!
👍👍👍👏👏👏😍
