- Ecuador has some of the world's best markets, and I'm putting them to the test. I bought 10 items in the market, and the same 10 items in the grocery store. I'm breaking down the costs to find out if it really is cheaper to shop in an Ecuadorian market. How much can you save? What are the quality of the items? What are the advantages and disadvantages to the grocery store and the market? It's the Great Ecuadorian Market/Grocery Store Showdown!

My Ecuadorian friends frequently shop with me and believe if think I am being treated fairly they stick up for me passionately
I lived in Ecuador for 14 years (I was born there), 4 years ago I moved to the US. The cheapest stores are: Tía and Akí. Supermaxi is a little bit more expensive.
Santa Maria too. The Tia doesn't have enough selection. It's fine for certain items and for a quick shop. Aki is pretty good, especially if you plan your shopping around their sale days.

I found the bananas at super Maxi only taste yellow. After living in amazonia I couldn't even eat it! It tasted like Canada.
Haha. So many banana options on Ecuador. I'll always love the ones that taste like Canada, but I miss the green ones that they mash up and use for bolon.
Either way looks like extreme amounts of food for super good prices. How much are the frozen TV dinners? hahaha does that even exist? I'd love to see brands from other countries.
That doesn't exist here. Honestly, that might just be a North American thing.

Airport is open. You'll need a negative covid test to show them when you arrive. If you do that, then you don't need to quarantine.

Is the a noticeable Asian population in Ecuador?
Not really. I really only see Asian people when I go to an Asian restaurant or an Asian grocery shop.
