    I have been recently diagnosed with ALS. Why will no one tell me how long the average in each stage will last. I relize it is differant for every one but there must be averages. When you have limited time it would be helpful to plan.

    I was born with a slightly weaker leg, and I think als began to creep up on me 5 years before fasciculations and knee weakness moved in. Now I think I have it, but no one has actually examined the nerves in the leg. We now venture down the slippery slope of acupuncture on those racalcitrant nerves of the big toe, which failed 2 years ago and may have been the canary in the coalmine...or not.

    I'm a bit skeptical that you can arrive at a classification or diagnosis through the process of exclusion. Sure, you can eliminate other known possibilities, but just because you arrive at whatever is left, do you really know what that 'thing' is exactly? How do you know that there arn't other possibilities, perhaps several, not known to science that might have also been excluded that it could have also possibly been?

    • @Fear.of.the.Dark.
      @Fear.of.the.Dark. 3 роки тому +2

      That is possible. But if modern medical science do not know that anyways, how will you treat it after everything else treatable is ruled out?

    My mother was just diagnosed. And she's going to get genetic tests done. I was within the last year diagnosed with Relapsing Polychondritis which is another very rare disease. So the fact that I have some vague symptoms like her early symptoms doesn't necessarily mean ALS, because of this other rare thing. Which is autoimmune and once you are dx with one, more tend to follow. Some that mimic ALS!
    My brain can't focus on anything right now, other than this. 😫

    So, one would have to be tested for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING first. If all the tests come back negative, then by default, he/she has ALS. Since there are no specific tests for ALS. I don't like that explanation. That is on par with going to my barber for some blood letting...
