I don't think age makes a difference. There's people who really do count as posers and then there's people who are just trying to learn.

@@Curly_Toes You can't really blame the skate community for seeing people do that and grouping them as "posers", you know how annoying it is to spend thousands of hours perfecting your skills at a sport only for some jackass to buy a skateboard, carry it around, and cash in on all the "cool points"? Some skaters may have seen a ton of posers and group the next person they see doing what I said in the last comment as posers. If someone is really trying to grow a UA-cam channel or whatever else it is from progressing at skateboarding, all the power to them, but if someone is going for the skater boy/girl "aesthetic" and mall grabbing a penny board, it should be something that is looked down upon, not looked over because you categorised poser acts as beginners, which is probably an insult to beginners
All I'm saying is, your original comment was half right and half wrong, sure it makes the video creator look bad if some kid who's trying to progress ends up on "CRINGIEST Skateboard TikToks", but I don't think he spends minutes watching every clip trying to decide if the subject is a poser or a beginner, these videos aren't perfect, there's going to be actual beginners in these videos, just as well as there's going to be actual posers in these videos
Calling it gatekeeping is sometimes right, since some asshole skaters will go out of their way to bombard a beginner with calling them a poser, but how many asshole skaters have you seen? Most of the one's I've seen are purely satire, not really trying to hurt the other dudes feelings, since the other dude is probably in on the joke as well, to get a laugh out of people. Most asshole skaters aren't even good for the community, and aren't claimed by other skaters to be part of their community. It ruins the already shit reputation skateboarding has, but as you may know, the community is one of the most misunderstood out there, calling skateboarders gatekeepers because of a few bad actors isn't cool man

@@itsjjstyles Dude I hate to break it to you but there are no "cool points" in skateboarding. We do it for ourselves, we practice tricks for hours for the satisfaction of landing them and improving. In my eyes, some kid wearing thrasher and carrying a board for aesthetic, aka "poser", is really just a fan of the sport and they aren't going to take that satisfaction away from us so why do skaters sweat it so much? The truth is that most skaters I know don't. The slim few that do tend to be young impressionable beginners themselves so when they see a video like this it just perpetuates that lame mindset. At the end of the day it's not that serious, I don't think any kids are going home and offing themselves because some loser at the skatepark called them a poser but it just annoys me is all.

So I'm a beginner skater and I went to the skatepark for the first time yesterday and had so much fun and was trying to go down this little ramp thing and this lady helped me and I was so happy

I remember when I was seven i got my first board and it was a penny board i just got out in the local park and people just called me a poser, that still hurts
penny boards arent real "skate" boards, they're cruisers, not made for tricks unlike ur popsicle board, and skating is mostly revolved around lines and tricks, not riding the wrong way round on a plastic cruiser.
Hence the reason why I'm getting a penny board, to cruise with it, I'm not trying to do tricks or anything like that
there was this one time in school where i was shopping for skate shoes in class and a girl asks:
"what kind of skateboard do you have?"
"a regular 8" skateboard"
"but what kind of skateboard"
at this point im confused as hell, so i just google an image of a skateboard and show her that. turns out, she uses the term "skateboard" to apply to any board with wheels, so penny boards, long boards, pretty much everything. She says what mine is called isn't a skateboard, its a "trickboard"

there actually are different types of skateboards but longboards and penny boards are not them lmao if you have soft wheels people call it a cruiser if you got hard wheels people call it a trick idk why but its just standard like i got a cruiser but do tricks with it there's no differences except wheel hardness
