  • Athlete's foot is a fungal infection on the skin of your feet, medically known as tinea pedis. It causes scaly dry skin that can also be very itchy. If left untreated it can spread further including infecting your toenails. It is important to treat it as soon as possible, and remember to treat the skin, socks and shoes. This video explains what is athlete's foot, how it presents, how to prevent developing it, how to treat it, and my best tips! You can check out the links below to read more about athlete's foot, and some products that might help.

    Just a comment on the subtitles at the bottom of the screen, which obsure any other print or notes at the same level. Thanks for clear explanation.

    Ibwork in manual labor and here's what I do.
    1. I have two pairs of boots that I alternate each work day.
    2. I apply foot powder on my feet, in my socks and in my boots before I go to work and during lunch.
    3. I change socks at lunch.
    4. I shower while wearing shower shoess soon as I get home and thoroughly scrub my feet.
    5. I put more foot powder on my feet after drying.

    Can you tell me which exact socks to buy for athletes foot or for sweaty feet, I’m a car salesman and usually expose my feet to a lot of sunlight.

    Great video, I subscribed as it's very informative. My doctor has prescribed Lamilsil oral pill for 1 week per month for 1 year as well as Ketoconazole Cream 2%. Only 2 nails appear to be effected on one foot, but both feet are dry and show signs of tinea pedis, hence the cream to use. Question: once you put the cream on, can you put on socks or do you wait until cream has absorbed into the skin.

    • @thelondonpodiatrist
      @thelondonpodiatrist  6 місяців тому +1

      You shouldn't have to wait more than 30 seconds before putting on socks. If you do, try applying more thinly.

      Did you return to the podiatrist for testing to confirm you still have an active fungal infection? Need to make sure the redness is caused by something else before you go through a bunch of other time-consuming treatments.

    • @thelondonpodiatrist
      @thelondonpodiatrist  5 місяців тому

      Hi! In the UK you can purchase antifungal cream in a pharmacy without prescription. Current guidelines in UK advise terbinafine not to be used in children under the age of 12 but other creams are fine in younger children. Always check and read the packaging before purchase. Best wishes
