- At the monthly Oklahoma Board of Education meeting, State Superintendent Ryan Walters issued a bible mandate in all public schools.
“We will be issuing a memo that every school district will adhere to, which is, that every teacher in every school in the state will have a Bible in the classroom and will be teaching from the Bible in the classroom,” said Walters.

Yeah I agree with you here. Given Oklahoma’s very strongly protestant demographics, I have my concerns. I do not want Catholic youth going to public schools coming back as protestant due to biased education. I say this because I’ve had my fair share of prots in Oklahoma try to convert me.
I wonder if there is a Christian group against this requirement. If there is, I would join. This feels way too much like religious fanatics in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

Forcing religion on children regardless what religion or religious book is not only abuse because religion installs fear to the mind that before religion, you never had. What happened to math, English and the deplorable history we teach to our children.
Every nation that now teaches Bible has seen the IQ levels rise and children more eager to learn. When I attended school the state was still praying in classrooms, but the liberals hate anything Jewish or black, so it stopped. Grades plummeted now that God no longer cared.

The constitution clearly lays out that church and state are to be separated, and since schools are run by the state then they should follow the law of the land. If parents want their children to receive a religious education they can do so at home, at church, or at a private Christion school.

If I was forced to teach the Bible, I would begin reading on page one and continue through to the end. That is something that never happens in Bible studies or in churches. You’d be amazed what it says in there.

Not every child is Christian! Some are Jewish - like my family, for example. A public school needs to be secular. Freedom of religion is a right for all Americans. Religious studies should be after school or on the weekends. Home and church, home and synagogue, home and mosque. Secular public school should teach the Universal Religion: Respect, kindness, tolerance, treat people the way you wish to be treated.

Good. Puplic schools got started in great part to teach the Bible. Instead, most of us got taught the false religion of evolutionism that contributed to Columbine, WW2, slavery, etc.

If thoughts and prayers worked, the most religious states/countries would be rich, happy, educated, safe but data shows it's the exact opposite of those things. Knowing this, would it be wise to create more religious people?

They are at the birthplace of the 3 main religions. Why didn't God stop Israel's missles? Killed thousands of civilians, kids blown to pieces but they pray 5 times a day. Maybe not enough? Thoughts and prayers go unanswered, maybe there's nobody listening?

If they require bibles to be taught and placed in every room, they’d need to place and teach the Quran, the Torah, The Book of Jonah, and every other religious texts students may follow. they can’t POSSIBLY expect every family and teacher in the education system to be okay with this. they’re asking for so many oklahoma families to only follow the religion that these politicians believe in.

I'd start with all the uncomfortable things the Bible teaches. Like the fact God condones slavery and genocide : that would be a great one to teach in history class. I'd teach how the Bible gets the creation story in the wrong order in science class. I'd preach the story of how God answered a curse from Elisha and 2 bears came down and mauled 42 kids to death because they were calling him names. I'm sure the christo-fascist parents that are cool with the Bible stories could learn a thing or two from little Johnnie's classroom sermon lesson if he takes notes and brings them home to Ma and Pa.

It's disturbing that the people responsible for educating our children can't read, understand, or adhere to the laws of our nation. There are a lot of stories in the Bible that are not appropriate for children. Stories of rape, incest, prostitution, genocide, murder and mayhem. Have the people making these laws actually read the Bible? Probably not, they didn't read the Constitution either. Can they read at all? If they want their children exposed to the Bible, parents are responsible for the children's religious education, not the state. Let the parents keep the Bibles in their homes, let the parents have responsibility for their own children's religious education, it is none of the government's business. The state does not have the right to ostracize children for being of different faith. If you teach one religion in the schools, you must teach all religions in the schools. This is why we do not teach religion in school, it is the parent's responsibility. The government does not have the right to mandate our beliefs, or the beliefs of our children. They have greatly overstepped their authority.

People should think about this. There are so many interpretations of the Bible and the chances that the teacher will teach the Christianity you believe is slim.

This seems like a clear breach of our nations founding principals. I wouldn’t appreciate a public school teaching MY kids the Bible. That would mean your child’s religion will be taught by someone who likely doesn’t even understand what they’re reading! Teachers are not typically theologians and there are so many different beliefs and viewpoints even within Christianity. I’m glad my kids are grown and can still think for themselves.
If Waters is going to require the Bible be taught, he needs to require that the Quran be taught, the Torah be taught, the Bhagavad Gita be taught, the Dao De Jing be taught, the numerous Buddhist sutras be taught, the Satanic Bible be taught, and every religious text be taught.
It's called comparative religion and is taught on the college level. He's not looking for critical thinking.
That's great the Bible would be available. However, under no circumstances should a non-believer be teaching the Bible to anybody, much less children. Just an opportunity to twist what it says.

Bibles are generally available for needed reference material. That's not the point. The point is the 1st amendment to the constitution prohibits government from establishing a particular religion. This clearly violates the establishment clause in the bill of rights. Government employees should neither stop students from reading the Bible (on their own time not during other instruction) -- or other religious texts -- nor should they force them to read (or have read to them) religious texts.
Why? Are you afraid they'd forget to gloss over the more hateful parts, like rules for slavery and a grapist paying a woman's father for her and being allowed to marry her?

UNLESS they also allow the other 3,000 recognized religions, unless they provide equal space for their RELIGIOUS tenant's. this would be the authorizing OF a single religion and that, in the land of NO DISCRIMINATION AGAINST COLOR, RELIGION , AGE OR CREED, IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL. then followers of other religions, pay taxes also and they have a right to not be forced to see the words of another religion placed in taxpayer funded halls of education- not the halls of religion- which brings up the question, WTF do they have houses of worship for?
