Dark Mechanicus Skitarii Vanguard, Part I - Kit-Bashing

- In this episode I kit-bash a five miniature squad of Dark Mechanicus Skitarii Vanguard, including a leader and a heavy weapon expert. I use pieces of an old T-shirt and kitchen twine to add some extra details to my creations. This is a really quick and simple technique to make your miniatures stand out on the tabletop!

Those minis are really inventive. The mixed media work, with the cloth and string, bumps up the gnarly, grim-dark aesthetic.
Cheers!
It's fun using different materials in a build :)
AMAZING!!! even though I already used the cloth technique to add details I never thought of making a scarf with it. very cool!
Cheers!
I think is the detail that brought the pieces together :)
very nice! This gang will make a great Armies on Parade in the fall!
Good plan!
Making a display board for these would be a fun video.
I really enjoyed this video, I am going to make my own dark mechanics skitarii units now
Go for it!
These were a lot of fun to do, and hiding the seems with fabric made everything quite simple :)
This video just floored me. Great stuff!
Cheers!
Biltema superlim. Det må jeg prøve!!
watching this was pure bliss! i love the idea of using fabric and string.
It's much more fun to share my videos when I get reactions like this. Thanks!
Great job as always! Really looking forward to seeing these get painted up :D
Glad you like them!
I think they will be a lot of fun to paint.
I was wondering how you would tackle the skitarii and this did not disappoint! Using some twine as bandages on the legs is genius, I especially like the pose of the one with his rifle resting on his shoulder. I might have to try and replicate that next time I make some skitarii
Cheers!
Yes, I like the relaxed pose as well. It is not that different from the pose you get in the actual Skitarii kit, so the kit-bash worked out nicely :)
Love it, great work. I like the fabric and the string.
Thank you! Cheers!
Looking awesome. Great kitbashes on these figures.
Cheers!
I had a lot of fun making them. I've been a bit slow on the painting front though!
Never thought of using real fabric to create cloaks and scarves - but I love how it ends up looking! Will the PVA and water mix make it durable enough once it's painted?
Definitely. The glue dries completely hard, making the fabric very durable. I have done it several times in the past, and the painting always goes smoothly!
What larts did you use at the end of the rifles to make them look like antenna?
Fantastic work as always, could I request a overview showcase of your finished miniature collection?
Are you thinking about the mechanicus force, or my entire collection? The latter would be quite a project.
But I can definitely do a showcase video/gallery with the Dark Mech collection.
At some point I will also do a cabinet tour, as I have a lot of older projects I would love to show you :)
@@wilhelminiatures6905 yes to both haha, well maybe shorter videos covering different aspects of your collection? I appreciate this would be quite a task...but I'm just being selfish ^^. Love your work dude
@@calerdonianThanks, I'll see what I can do :)
Technically, it is Dark Mechanicum, not Mechanicus. However, your models are quite good and have given me good ideas!
Cheers!
I think of them as a Mechanicus faction who have recently turned to chaos, not any original Dark Mechanicum faction from the Horus Heresy.
Have you tried using plastic glue.
Damn dude! They look so sweet! I’ve been getting into kitbashing and discovering your work really inspires me! I do have one question though, since you are doing dark mechanicum, will you be making a nurgle chaos knight? Would love to see what you’d do with it!
Cheers!
Yes, I will definitely be making a knight for the army.
I would like to nurglify all of the classic units for the army, so there will be some vehicles coming up in future episodes :)
@@wilhelminiatures6905 super excited for it! I’d love to see a dunerider in that tainted, filthy white paint scheme!
Have you painted these yet? Really hoping there's a video on that coming soon 🙂
Cheers!
These guys are primed and ready on my desk, but I have not yet had time to paint them. I will try to do it soon :)
I have a CRAPload of Mechanicus that I want to convert. That's for this,
I mean THANKS for this.
- Ok, I’m going to remove this completely and then see.. 😅
