Bro get an ultrasonic cleaner! just chuck all the bits in and turn it on! I have the same airbrush and its the best low-effort cleaning strat... I do the whole front nose cap as 1 piece, the needle and the nozzle... And i throw in the whole ass remainder as 1 piece whenever it feels a bit crunchier then i feel it should...
this is the airbrush I bought as a starter set (still have/use it) in a kit including the compressor (for 100€ or so), and it does the job quite well, very good to my mind for learning how to use an airbrush and the influence of the different parts of it nice video btw, reminds me when I went back to the hobby and followed your tutorials, lots of thanks about that, so efficient and so fun!
I love how the start collecting death match has taken so long that it’s not only been superseded by combat patrol boxes but even those combat patrols have been superseded by the combat patrol game mode and in some cases have to have their combat patrol boxes replaced. Kind of a blessing in disguise as at least you’re working off of a fixed army composition in a sea of change as we transition to 10th. Can’t wait for the bat rep!
Really love how you detail real art principles, history and techniques in some of your videos like this one, really makes me feel like I'm learning something while I watch toy soldiers get painted! These ad-mech came out looking absolutely lovely as well! Really well executed. Looking forward to the battle as a nice farewell to 9th ed.
You absolutely knocked it out of the park with these models! The modifications you made to them, the limited colour palette, and the painting method you used resulted in a very brilliant end product.
I have to say: I am a fan of the Adeptus Guychanicus. Especially the eerie lighting. The first model you made looked like a weird mix of the Eversor and any random Arbites boy. So many things to see here. You are a genius, Guy.
Just wanted to say thank you for getting me into Warhammer and painting in general, I'm currently procrastinating painting up some chaos marines but without you I wouldnt have gotten into painting as I am. I started with gundam models and wanted to paint though had no confidence until I found your channel. Since then I've brush painted entire tanks and even huge Gundam models and finally will paint some Warhammer minis using everything I've learned from you over the last 3 years. Thank you for everything!
12:34 I still use my cheap airbrush over my expensive £200+ airbrush when I can, it just works! My expensive one is soo pernickety… bit of a regret purchase I have to say. Great video! ❤
Very cool to see how you really can change the Ad-Mech troops, this could be a great way of making Mechanicus look different from Dark Mechanicus if one happen to want some of both. I love the heads you have used.
I really like the silhouette change, also some Necron heads (or limbs) could have worked well for helping to further modify any given model without really going any further from the Mechanicus look.
Always love when you bring out the simple yet effective hobby tips! Sometimes it's easy to forget I don't do this hobby fulltime, like many of the youtubers I watch, so it's nice to have easy ways to pimp my builds!
I really love the color scheme, it gives the models an almost comic book feel!! I've been super interested in that sort of look, and have been wanting to attempt it for so long, but have never really had the confidence in my skills. But after watching this video, the way you explained and layed it out feels manageable, and it looks incredible!! Definitely attempting this soon, thank you so much for your videos, they've really helped me get started in this hobby!
I love this video, and I can definitely see the drawings and all the cool stuff of John Blanche and the color scheme is lovely. It's just... All amazing tbh
It really unexpected to see Anders Zorn on this channel! He's one of my favorite traditional artists too, I've seen many of his paintings irl years ago when there was an exhibition near me.
Zorn palette *and* my beloved muted grey *and* it looks great? You really are spoiling me Seriously though, I love seeing more general art stuff in the hobby - mini painters miss out on so much when they don't explore beyond GW-approved tools. I'll also add that by googling "limited palette" you can find a bunch of other cool colour schemes like this to try
I can't say I've ever dug the look of the long flowy robes with metal helmets (compared to the hoods at least), so this definitely gave me an idea to try out!
I can also vouch for the timbertech airbrush, it may not be super high quality build compared to more expensive airbrushes, but it really does get the job done for a much more digestible price 😅
Absolutely loved this video! I think this has really cemented Midwinter Minis as my favorite miniature painting channel. You can find plenty of videos that are Blanche inspired or using a Zorn pallet, but to actually take those water color paintings and translate the style to miniatures is an insane task that's been accomplished almost nowhere.
You know, I was JUST thinking Skitarii might be a good goto for my new Astartes Servitors for my Space Wolves Iron priest, this sold me on them, cheers Guy! Legend!
In regards to the airbrush issues, I bought myself a cheap ultrasonic cleaner off aliexpress and dissembled my airbrush and chucked it in with some simple green and gave it a few minutes (a strong detergent, it’s called different things across the world). Made an amazing difference almost like a brand new airbrush. Would highly recommend
Great modelling & painting Guy. Those colours are very New Model Army both the English Civil War & the band. Although at the time in 1640-50’s it wasn’t the New Model Army that was a later name to describe it. Think red then became standard English/British Army on the battlefields till late Victorian era but still as Regimental Dress. So think you got that Victorian Steampunk English Civil War/ Grimdark vibe to a tee. Much of Joolz artwork for the band has a similar palate.
Honestly, I had thought that Blanche had died a while ago. I swear I had seen he had died. While everyone was like "oh no he retired" I was "... he's alive?".
With the HP-CS I find that the order of operations when dealing with with a sputtering air brush is to start with a tooth brush with alcohol and or airbrush cleaner and scrub the tip with it.. It usually does an ok job a getting it to stop sputtering. You can also back the needle out a bit and give it a blast of air and that sometimes clears the chunky bits. You usually don't have to do a full deep clean mostly make sure the nozzle, crown(tip) and needle are cleaned relatively often. That is usually what I focus on. I only really deep clean if i spray primer, clear coat or I am about to start spraying really bright and vibrant colors.
I always hated John Blanche's art, where everyone was on a hill, firing at the same time, the heroes having show-and-tell with their melee weapons, and the skies were always yellow. But you took that color palette and did some amazing work with it on these guys. I absolutely dig it.
Thank you so much, GCSE's are happening, and I wouldn't have gotten through then so far without the vids, I would have provably sent myself to the dark gods 😂 Have a good one Thanks a lot
I love these creative kitbashes and colour schemes! Your Astra Militarum video inspired me to try a similar orange colour scheme with the Genestealer Cults combat patrol, I might just add the AM combat patrol to the Cult of the Broken Chain down the line 🤙
The paintjob is a bit rough, but the amount of models you got done is impressive. I bet they look great as an army on the tabletop! I‘m going to try and get my next transfers looking as rough and ‚part of the model‘ as you did. Thank you for sharing!
My airbrush journey took a similar path. Iwata died so I purchased one almost identical to your budget one for a similar price. So far it’s been great for the past 4 months and I doubt I’ll ever get a premium airbrush again
That was my very first airbrush and 3 years on it's still going strong. Love the scheme may pinch a few ideas off you for my admec. Keep up the great content (even if you want to be controversial 😂)
Love the paint scheme looks Great! The thing that should pointed out with cheap airbrushes like the one used in this video is getting parts are likely not a thing so if it fails it's likely garbage. Something to keep in mind.
Excellent video Guy ! About airbrush : I use mine in almost every project I tackle, using a 0.2mm needle, from undercoat to basecoating, and OSLs. It's a shitty chinese rebrand I bought about a year ago, around 30€. Almost never doing any "in depth" cleaning, only rinsing it with water and vallejo airbrush cleaner between every color (count about 1m per cleaning session). Since I started using this technic (that a friend recommended me to), never had any problems of clogging ;) Hope this helps !
Holly sh*t those turned out awesome. I think these guys are probably one of my favorite units you've painted recently. REALLY nailed the John Blanche/grimdark look with the kitbashing. The odd and varied cyberborg heads look like something you'd see in some of Blanche's art. He had loads of oddball characters in the backgrounds that never quite seemed to belong to the factions everyone thinks of when they think 40k, but they were grimdark in the genre sense. That's the vibe I get from these guys. Not 40k, but just grimdark in general. Really like the stylized color scheme. Just lovely.
Great video, like the black dip wash, definitely going to try this out. Also, on cleaning the airbrush, if it's not been done for a while, toluene and xylene standard thinners (high purity) or pure acetone will demolish anything not metal on there. Seriously, just make sure there is no rubber seals or whatever and leave in a jar for about 30 minutes or over night and should be good to go.
Well, if i needed any motivation to get my skitarii looking nice and spiffy for 10th edition (despite their god-awful datasheets and points) this is it! Thanks bunches, Guy!

It’s crazy how much those models look different just with a little bit of modding. Loved the end result.
I know, right?

That short detour through a bit of art history with the colors was truly fascinating!
Really love how you detail real art principles, history and techniques in some of your videos like this one, really makes me feel like I'm learning something while I watch toy soldiers get painted! Thank you very much!
not gonna lie it's by far the most beautiful and unique skitarii models i have seen yet ! those are incredible, it's a great work .
I have to say: I am a fan of the Adeptus Guychanicus. Especially the eerie lighting. The first model you made looked like a weird mix of the Eversor and any random Arbites boy. So many things to see here. You are a genius, Guy.
If the admech die you should spread some little cogs about instead of blood
Oil and coolant too!
Yes just thinking about Alien andoids white hidraulic fluids XD
HELL YEAH! I've not watched all of this but the thumbnail looks amazing!
Just wanted to say thank you for getting me into Warhammer and painting in general, I'm currently procrastinating painting up some chaos marines but without you I wouldnt have gotten into painting as I am. Absolutely an improvement - never realised that it was the capes that I didn't like about the Skitarii
OH YOU
Speedball2 and The Chaos Engine ❤❤❤❤ had a nostalgia attack seeing the artwork again
Best thumbnail you've done,instantly clicked
12:34 I still use my cheap airbrush over my expensive £200+ airbrush when I can, it just works! My expensive one is soo pernickety… bit of a regret purchase I have to say. Great video! ❤
Genius idea. The dominous in particular is incredible. Peak grim dark.
It's my birthday today AND Guy uploads a new video? Best day ever.
Happy birthday!
I think this is my favourite army from the start collecting series so far... Really good!
I think these look great, also extra points for the Speedball music. more awesome memories right there.
Man, i’ve never felt the desire to straight copy a scheme but i’m obsessedddd with how these turned out. Lovely work as always Guy :)
The new silhouette instantly made me think of Mars Attacks! AK-AK!!!
Very cool to see how you really can change the Ad-Mech troops, this could be a great way of making Mechanicus look different from Dark Mechanicus if one happen to want some of both. I love the heads you have used.

I played Vangelis Blade Runner soundtrack and watched your opening video. The music worked quite well.
I really love the color scheme, it gives the models an almost comic book feel!! I've been super interested in that sort of look, and have been wanting to attempt it for so long, but have never really had the confidence in my skills. But after watching this video, the way you explained and layed it out feels manageable, and it looks incredible!! Great video. Loving the Blanche paints and lack of capes makes the Ad-Mech better. Keep up the good work.
John Blanche, and Dan Malone are two incredible artists who brought a lot of joy of fun to millions
Getting some serious Strontium Dog/2000AD vibes, love it.
Looks really good.
With those colours and without the capes it's more darker, almos chaosy look.
Came with no notification, but pure insight that there should be something new
I love this video, and I can definitely see the drawings and all the cool stuff of John Blanche and the color scheme is lovely.
It's just... All amazing tbh
These are crazy good looking AdMech, love the conversions and paint jobs
I’m happy my comment was taken into consideration, but the Zorn palette was definitely the way to go.
Fantastic as always, I really dug the zorn pallette approach
looking great as always! cant wait to see them in action!
PRAISE THE OMNISHAH THIS WAS INCREDIBLE!
Also i was in the video yooooooooooo
It really unexpected to see Anders Zorn on this channel! He's one of my favorite traditional artists too, I've seen many of his paintings irl years ago when there was an exhibition near me.
Excellent video. Love the DIY dipwash, thanks for link back.
Absolutely smashing job Guy! Honestly, they look like they might have come from the 60 Minute War, and I love everything about that.
Haha “I’ve got capes for days!” Love it.
Cutting the capes off of skitarii makes for an excellent coversion for horus heresy tech thralls!
I have the same backup airbrush, it works great.
Zorn palette *and* my beloved muted grey *and* it looks great? You really are spoiling me
Seriously though, I love seeing more general art stuff in the hobby - mini painters miss out on so much when they don't explore beyond GW-approved tools. I'll also add that by googling "limited palette" you can find a bunch of other cool colour schemes like this to try
Love, this strong believer in small pallets
Christ bless you, really grateful for that red, black, white, and yellow color lesson
Speedball 2 - greatest game ever made.
Like someone else said GCSEs are happening, so thanks this helps a LOT :)
Really interesting approach, both creating the model and painting. Thanks
I can't say I've ever dug the look of the long flowy robes with metal helmets (compared to the hoods at least), so this definitely gave me an idea to try out!
I bought that same cheap airbrush as my first airbrush just a few months ago. I've used it less than 10 times so far, but it works really well.
Awesome! 🤘 cool to see something different from the ad mech norm! And great job with the color pallet!
I can also vouch for the timbertech airbrush, it may not be super high quality build compared to more expensive airbrushes, but it really does get the job done for a much more digestible price 😅
Absolutely loved this video!

Marco frisoni : hold my beer !
Marco Frisoni's Zorn videos are amazing
Can’t wait to watch
The Chaos Engine cameo made my day!
I loved Chaos Engine back in the day, such a great game.
Finally an Admech vid! So excited
the start of this was just too iconic love it 😅😊😊
You know, I was JUST thinking Skitarii might be a good goto for my new Astartes Servitors for my Space Wolves Iron priest, this sold me on them, cheers Guy! Legend!

While everyone was like "oh no he retired"
I was "... he's alive?".
Love the Warhammer 40k Mechanicus footage in the opening. The game is highly underrated.
great to see you do ad-mech, they're my favorite army
These intros are getting more creative each time
I try! Thank you 😊
@@MidwinterMinis no problem, keep up the great content

Oh, they are awesome :)
You guys should totally do a Sludge army :)
Or maybe a Turnip28 army. Love me some Napoleonic vegetable mutants.
Love a bit of a Chaos Engine cameo
Thank you so much, GCSE's are happening, and I wouldn't have gotten through then so far without the vids, I would have provably sent myself to the dark gods 😂
Have a good one
Thanks a lot
Honestly mate, I'm exactly the same
Good luck!
Praise the omnisia! I play admech and wish I had this tutorial earlier!
You've used my favourite puppets war heada. The cyber cowboy is what I used for my skittari. Looks amazing
Looks great as always. Love the colours!

Always wanted to start adeptus mechanicus will use this when u get them 100% love your videos
Cool you mentioned Anders Zorn! 🇸🇪
This is hugely inspiring! Thanks bub.
that exact model airbrush was my affordable starter model and it lasted me for ages.
My airbrush journey took a similar path. Iwata died so I purchased one almost identical to your budget one for a similar price. So far it’s been great for the past 4 months and I doubt I’ll ever get a premium airbrush again

Speedball 2! AND art from Chaos Engine? Your videos have everything!
I really dig this color scheme for the skitarii, reminds me of the Peace Sells album cover
Big Pete the Wargammer energy, love it.
Love the paint scheme looks Great! The thing that should pointed out with cheap airbrushes like the one used in this video is getting parts are likely not a thing so if it fails it's likely garbage. Something to keep in mind.
MADNESS i love it
My very first 40k minis every (a unit of Skitarii rangers) is on its way. I can't wait to get started! (even though I hear it will be hard)

That onager looks fucking brilliant
These all have a grim dark 70s Sci fi look to them now
These actually look sick ngl
Awesome results, great video

I remember The Chaos Engine! It only came out 31 years ago.
Speedball 2 was one of my favourite games on the Mastersystem.
