    Very good review bud, this is exactly what people need before purchasing a judo gi, I've just started judo after looking to get involved for a while now, il be starting off with probably a fuji and eventually getting a Mizuno after a while

    It is Korean writing on my gis. I teach English in Korea at the moment so I have access to these things. When you order a new gi here, they by default have the school name and your name put on the gi. It's consistent across Korea in this way.

    Thank you for this great & informative video. I'm leaning towards a Mizuno gi at present. I wonder if you could share some info on shrinkage on the Mizuno Gi (when washed/dryed) & how to get your kit to fit best.
    Great channel & look forward to watching more of your videos.

      +MONKEY SWAG Thank you. The two gis are very different. The Mizuno definitely feels lighter. In the summers, the Adidas can really overheat you. If you wash them cold water and hang dry them for several months first, you should be just fine with avoiding significant shrinkage.

      +Red Dragon Diaries Thanks! Good tip. I'll be sure to do that. Next...is to try and find a good stockist of the Mizuno supreme.

    Thanks for the vid. I trained in Korea too from 2009-2012 in Gyeong-nam. I can attest to what you say about the Adidas being like a furnace. In Korea our dojang had 2 gis for sale: Moosoolsa and Adidas. I actually liked the Moosoolsa better.

    i have both, but I prefer the Mizuno because it's lighter and more comfortable to use in competition. The adidas restricts my movement (is heavier) and I haven't a good feeling...but this is my opinion

    • @Reddragondiaries
      @Reddragondiaries  10 років тому

      I hear you on that. The Mizuno is definitely more flexible and lighter feeling. But in the winter I like the thicker Adidas because it keeps me warm.

    The way I understand it is they order from a distributor or Adidas direct, then it is sent to an embroidery store where your name and the school name patches are put on. Many stores do the patches since all korean yudo players and schools follow the same format with uniforms.

    I wonder if my friend is 180cm-183cm, I wonder if J350( old version ) adidas , single weave , he is probably too sweaty even tho we are practicing in air conditioning place , or maybe it is not air conditioning ,but it is cold in Seattle. I’m hesitant to get him 180 cm or 190 cm
    Some people said is going to shrink, so we should get 5-10cm bigger.
    I found one adidas, 180cm J350 , single weave for just $40 bucks, but there is a blue one 190cm is $70 bucks, I know it is affordable price, so I am super struggling. Should I go for a bigger one , or ...hmmmmm.... what is ur take on that . I like ur video, I will check out more of ur videos. Thankssss hope I can get ur reply soon, I’m afraid the cheap one will get sold out

    It surprises me that Nike have never made a BJJ gi or Judo gi.

  • @Reddragondiaries
    @Reddragondiaries  11 років тому

    I don't have them tailored - that would likely weaken the gi. Gis usually fit very baggy on me too for a while until they shrink a bit to fit my body. It's just what we tall drinks of water have to deal with!

  • @Reddragondiaries
    @Reddragondiaries  11 років тому

    Wow - you may need a 6. I think that would be the right one especially as it naturally shrinks it will fit nicely.

    Hi.. Have you tried the Mizuno Shiai Gi? I'm 173 cm tall and weigh 85 kilos.. but I compete in the -81kl category. I ordered the size 3.5 basing on my Sensei's Mizuno Gi.. Can't find enough reviews about the sizing of the Mizuno Shiai.

    Hmmm.maybe 5 is too big then. I would suggest just going to a site like Hatashita Sports and check out the sizing charts. You're more stocky than me. I'm a long gangly build so I need 5 or 5.5. The sizing charts will tell you what you need.

  • @Reddragondiaries
    @Reddragondiaries  11 років тому

    It would be pretty bulky and stiff I think if they even make one that size. I don't think a young kid needs it. Double weave is really for heavier adults or big time players so the material lasts and doesn't rip

    The Mizuno is defintely a lighter gi. I use it in the summer. Still hot since it's double weave, but the Adidas is an oven! The extra material down the back is about the same length wise, but the Adidas is super thick and more firm. Very difficult to grip overhand.

    My mom was able to take in the back on a double weave with drape thread and a special sewing machine she has. I remember seeing a Jimmy Pedro video where he said he goes to a special tailor and has all of his gis tailored. There have to be some special tailors in Korea for judoka. I don't think the Mizuno was worth what I paid for it, and I hear good things about ADIDAS. The best pants I have are Kwon they have an elastic waste and a better draw string. Yes, I was once de-pantsed in competition.

    I have never tried Mizuno, but on some forums they wrote at I should buy a smaller size than people generally uses for their bodyweight. For example my DAX gi is 5 (I am 186cm and 90kg) it shrinked a bit, but not too much, my other gi is a noname one it was 5.5 but it shrinked like hell despite I have washed it always at 30 Celsius... Someone has told that from a Mizuno a 4.5 would be enought for me because their sizes are a bit bigger than other companies. Is it true?

    • @Reddragondiaries
      @Reddragondiaries  7 років тому

      The Mizunos I ever had fit loosely comfortable - if that makes sense. It feels thinner and lighter than the Adidas and so it can have a baggy feel to it. The thing is, if you buy a size that is too small to avoid the bagginess, then the sleeves may be too short. Tbh, I prefer Adidas overall. Plus they have the cool stripes!

    • @gilberttiborjakub9890

      Red Dragon Diaries thank you for the quick answer. To be honest, before I started practise judo I was a track and field athlete and I used Mizuno gears during that time. So I have super good experience with the Mizuno quality, that's why I wanted to choose a gi for judofrom the same brand as well. The only problem in my home country (Hungary) there are only webshops offer Mizuno judo gis, and there is no chance to try one how to fits and to buy a 200-300 USD cost product without to try it can be a bit risky. :/

    Adidas' entry level gi sucks. Fugi/mizuno student gi is perfect for beginners. Both in quality and budget.
