Regarding Rogue's reputation for snubbing IFRA, here's what Manuel himself posted on BaseNotes back in Nov 2021 -- "Although I am using heavily regulated materials, after dilution in alcohol my fragrances interestingly fall right within regulation. I began sending samples of my frags to an independent lab and found that out. I was then able to obtain proper SDS forms to be able to ship to retailers overseas. I had a feeling that would be so which is partly the reason I had the frags tested, I wanted to confirm my suspicions. The results are not entirely dumb luck however; I rash up quite easily with Lyral, Lilial and bergamot so I had been formulating with lower amounts and supporting with other skin-friendly materials to achieve the effects I sought. To be honest I was quite ignorant going into this whole thing; thinking these materials were banned completely, hence the whole “non-IFRA” touting. This is why I dropped that motto a few years back. It just seemed irresponsible and infantile."

Thank you for the kind words... subs arent always a measure of success as subs can be purchased (any many times are) so to be honest I am happy with the channels growth in the last 18 months from zero to over 4000 .... I am sure as the months tick by more and more will join 😊

I agree with you Ramsey 💯. Early this year I bought Mousse Illuminee which I consider one of the best fragrances I ever smelled . It was so different from the bottle I bought in 2020 .

When initially seeing this release I instantly pined for the time of the "non-see-though cap Rogue era"(😂). Especially upon seeing its notes and name - Growing up I went on many a vacation into Targee. So, an enormous amount of gratitude to you for covering your experience so far, it does sound like a winner - Targhee to the shortlist, good Sir

Some say he was always IFRA compliant other say something different... I would love for him to come on a livestream & clear the air 🎤
Wow, this one slipped passed me. I have full bottles of Bon Monsieur and Fougere L'Aube. I like Fougère L'Aube much more than a lot of people do. It also has the early morning sunlight imagery attached to it, this time with early morning sun rays on dew drops on a fern. "Dawn Fern" is what the name means, and Fougere L'Aube perfectly achieves the olfactory portrait.
I checked the Fragrantica page for this new Targhee Forest, and the few early comparison "This perfume reminds me of...." fragrances are Creed Bois du Portugal and Lalique Pour Homme lion, both of which I love. But it doesn't sound like Targhee Forest is that close by your description. Hope they restock fast.
Usually those fragrantica remind me of are suspect as they let the people vote and some people vote some BS 😅

First trying of my sample tonight. First thing I did after experiencing the opening is I checked to see if you had a review lol. Off the rip i like it a lot. Cant wait to see what you think.

I purchased a decant of this from The Fragrance Vault in Lake Tahoe. Jana, the owner, is a really cool lady with a huge appreciation for the Vintage juice. She served as consultant for Manny Cross sharing knowledge and procuring vials of vintage fragrances.
If you ever find yourself on the west coast you should visit the Fragrance Vault.

I don’t have the historical understanding or sophisticated understanding of notes like you do, but I highly recommend Derviche. It’s absolutely gorgeous!
I own a bottle... I will review it soon... it starts off very very sweet for me but I love the dry down
It's one of the strongest fragrances I have ever smelled 😳
Yes it’s quite fairly sweet in the opening and throughout, but I think not as much as most modern popular fragrances. And there’s something in there that(for me) balances out the sweetness. The spiciness perhaps? The saffron, jasmine and musk…either way, I admit I do like a little sweetness(not too much), so this one’s a winner for me ❤️🔥😊

Its possble... this smells more like an interpretation of Patou Pour Homme Prive though to me than the OG... but either way its a blast from the past in a modern bottle 🙏🙏🙏
I remember hearing in an episode of the American Perfumer podcast that Manuel Cross from Rogue had started with the goal to break IFRA rules with the amount of Oakmoss he wanted to use. When he was formulating the fragrances though, he discovered that since Oakmoss was such a potent ingredient even in very small amounts, he didn't have to use more oakmoss than IFRA would allow.

I have a bottle of Fougere L'Aube from 2021 and Mousse Illuminee from 2022 and they both smell amazing and last long so seems like if there were reformulations they didn't do much
Love your reviews! Thorough and from the heart! I ordered 5 samples from Rogue(Targhee Forest was not available). Other than Derviche, which I'm not completely sold on, none of them worked for me. I put some thought into what was going on and I just feel his style lacks nuance. I feel like I'm getting clobbered with each note. It's not necessarily about being "strong"- the scents just feel choppy, if that makes sense. Not well blended. Jasmine Antique was so heavy-handed that I didn't even put it on skin!!! Oh well...
He claims that he has changed styles and these newer releases are different (and they feel different) give Targee Forest a sniff one day 😍

I got a decant of this. It wasn’t quite what I was hoping for in a forest scent at first (something that reminds me of my childhood home in Alaska) but that is a personal thing and it is still definitely very good! Very smooth and round, a calm forest in the morning as the sun peeks between the branches and leaves. Will be getting a bottle once they’re available.
I also just tried Fouger L’Aube which is another modern fougere although more to the 90’s aquatic side. I immediately thought Green Irish Tweed in the opening and low and behold that was the first fragrance listed in the “Similar“ section of Parfumo. Never smelled them side by side, fwiw.
I’m def becoming more of a fan of the house. My modern Bon Monsieur smells great to me. Never had the old version to compare to. Sits comfortably next to my Tsar and Gucci Nobile.
Glad to hear the modern Bon Monsieur is still solid... i have a decant of Fougere L'Aube so I will do a review one of these days... thanks for sharing how the fragrance makes you feel Scott 🍻
What authentic forest type fragrances would you recommend?
Dude have you smelled Andrea Maack Coven? The most realistic forest scent EVER; IMHO it beats the pants off of similar attempts by Pineward, Apotreker, Gather, DSH, etc. When I smell it legit go to the Matrix In a fab way.

I blind bought a bottle when I seen Pine, Cypress. I was hoping for a Green Polo or TF Cypress. Nope. My initial thought was a milder Chypre Siam. The Rogue DNA is there but the longevity is only 6-8 hrs on my skin. None the less I do like it.
Thanks for watching & leaving your thoughts... I really like it too...but I think with Bon Monsieur I am set on my "fougere" DNA from the house... but this is quite a solid release from the house and a serious return to form for manny cross 🤌🤌🤌
You have no idea how glad I was to discover Rogue, I bought that Bon Monseur 75 ml with the old cap, got a sample of chypre siam, loved it. Went back a year later and bought a bottle of it, when I came back home the bottle was with their latest cap (clear plastic), it smelled nothing like the sample (may be 20 % similarity), I am not kidding. Sold it. I hunted down a bottle with the old cap, which I will collect in a few days time while I am writing. I will test it and repost.
Multiple people have said that even though the brand claims they are all the same 🤷🏻♂️

I think it’s worth to invest in a small vintage Elizabeth Taylor Passion Parfum* mini. Preferably late 80’s by House of Taylor rather than Perfume International in any event they are getting scooped up and little left for a very good price under 20 bucks.
I enjoy when you talk about unisex fragrance and def feel Passion Parfum is an unsung hit.

Okay, just for curiosity, I just watched part of an interview between Naughton (Mr Smelly) & Cross about ifra regs. He said he assumed at first that Rogue probably wouldn't meet compliance, but to his surprise (😏), Rogue didn't fall outside the bounds.
He then stated that with the recent ifra changes, Rogue may very well now be out of bounds.
...so, he might be a badass _rogue_ again! 😄

The IFRA issue is odd. Either he wasn’t being truthful then, or he isn’t being truthful now. Seems far more likely he mislead us in the early advertising than it is likely he’s misleading European authorities now.
Not a deal breaker for me, but definitely a bit of a stain.

@@RamseytheRam Will do. I also wanted to say how surreal it is to hear Pineward mentioned on UA-cam. They’re much celebrated on Reddit’s r/fragrance (which is a much better place to learn about fragrances than UA-cam is, excepting you and Persolaise). Haven’t tried them yet, but I just love seeing little guys get some screen time instead of the usual Top 40 dead horses the UA-cam salesmen drag out daily.

I think the story according to some folks who explained it to me after this video is that he claims at first he didnt even check to see if he was IFRA compliant and then as they grew he decided to check and lo and behold his creations were IFRA compliant after all 🙄

LOVE ROGUE....not a hard core anti-ifra evangelista rebel ....being a business man some times you have to tweak to some degree there are hundreds of brands out there. that want your business. If he can increase his volume in Europe to stabilize his costs in the USA (as inflation is running rampant) count me in. As a smaller house his quality is still way better than the majority of independent and bigger houses....LOVE Fougere L'Aube...btw it sounds like Manny pulled a Patou /Voyageur on saying I want to do what I want to do guys

I can see what you mean. The way I understand it, Manuel named the brand after the ministrations of an ancestor and not because he wanted to go against the grain. The whole non-IFRA thing was him just being lazy and not bothering to check the reference limits. 😆 So when he did, it turns out that he was compliant after all. At least that's the most recent story I recall. Anyway, I'm a big fan of his stuff and really don't care about the politics, tag line or advertising. It's all about the liquid. Still a top-5 artisan brand for me.

I like Rogue scents and the discovery scents . Nice ones ! Tabac Vert 🤌🏻! But I don’t like Derviche II it’s hyper sweet 😑, to me it’s an overpriced 1 Million Lucky , not sure what Manuel was thinking. Because he’s got nice revivals from the classics .

The story as I heard it on MrSmelly1977's UA-cam channel when he interviewed Manuel Cross is when he first created his fragrances he said he was somewhat naive about IFRA and didn't try to meet their regulations, and just used the amount of each ingredient to get to the smell he was imagining in his head, but later had his fragrances tested and they were IFRA compliant, and then he went on to say that with the new regulations he thinks they may not meet the current requirements.
