Make a Streamline Art Moderne Ring: A Silversmithing Tutorial
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 кві 2024
- This tutorial shows how to make a fun ring in the Art Deco adjacent style Art Moderne. This is an intermediate level project. For materials, I used 18, 22, and 26 gauge sterling sheet, and 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) fine silver bezel strip in 26 gauge. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande.
It is important to use safe practices when dealing with fire, sharp tools, and chemicals. Here is a video on safety: • General Silversmithing...

I would have classified it as "Art Deco", but whatever you call it, you hit it out of the park. It is lovely.
I'm not an art expert, but from my understanding, Art Modern is an offshoot of Art Deco. It looks pretty art deco-ish but has implied motion in the design. Think old cars with their kind of overdone streamlined shapes. Its sort of like Art Deco meets the atomic age:)
Congratulations on your partnership with PEPE Tools!!!...they are a wonderful company and they are fortunate to have such a talented creator on their team!
Aww, thanks Krautgirl!
Appropriate that Pepe tools would associate with such a talented silversmith! Love the ring design!
Thanks Julio:). What a nice thing to say!
Congratz, I've only ever heard good things about Pepe tools. Looking forward to seeing more of your new rolling mill. Reminds me of a bonnet/hood ornament from a 1950's car. Thanks for sharing Chad and have a fantastic weekend.
Thanks Gazz! That totally was the style I was shooting for. You see it in the shapes of old car bodies as well.
That's so gorgeous. Art deco and Art Moderne are my favorite period of jewelry. This is a beautiful example. Hope I can accomplish it one day soon. Love your channel. I have learned so much. I really appreciate you and have enjoyed watching your channel grow. Congratulations. ❤❤❤
Thank you Kim! What a nice comment:)
Congratulations on your Pepe tool sponsor, I love their tools and frequent their site and use their tools!!
I'm really enjoying the new rolling mill. It is so much better than my old one!
So beautiful! Thanks for inspiring us with different designs and humour too. 😏
My pleasure:)
Reminds me of old car wings!
Yes, totally! My Mom also had an old Electrolux vacuum that seemed very Art Moderne:). You see it in a lot of antique appliances and kitchen things.
Yey! Well done.
You deserve it.
Thank you!
Great job as always . I love this piece
Thanks SabreKing:). I kind of like how this one turned out too.
Just fantastic! 🎉
Thanks:)
Wowzers…congratulations on your Pepe Tools affiliation!! They’re an amazing company…and you’re an amazing silversmith!!

Great news on affiliation with Pepe Tools Chad!! Congratulations! I really like this ring Reminds me of 1950s hood ornaments.
Thanks Bill! It was nice to chat today! Thanks for participating:)
😲 this is super 😎
Thanks Dr. Helga. I was pleased with the outcome on this one:)
Beautiful ring, Chad! With the two "wings" it sort of reminds me of the Starship Enterprise (which would also make a cool ring)! And congrats on the Pepe Tools sponsership! They are awesome. I have a disc cutter and an ring bending tool from them and I love them! Excellent quality. Hope to see your new rolling mill in action soon. : )
Thanks Julie! Shouldn't be too long until I use the new rolling mill in a video:)
❤
Thanks again WizardKitty!
Thanks for your video. Enjoyed it. What are the pins used on the block to secure the parts when soldering please.
Hello Jim. Those are just steel T-pins. Sewing or craft store should have them.
WOW!! Congrats on the affiliation with Pepe tools!! They are a GREAT company!! And they obviously recognize your GREATNESS!!!
Thanks Karen! I'm pretty excited:)
Does a ring like this sell easily? It’s very unique and a great project
Thanks! I've sold a few of the earlier versions without the layering, and they drew a lot of interest and eventually sold. I think this is an improvement based on the positive response. We'll see:)
What is that white material you use for holding parts in place with pins to solder everything together?
Hello EekaMouse:). Those are called Magnesia blocks. They are available through many jeweler's supply companies or even Amazon. Hope this helps!
👍😎🇦🇺🐈⬛
Thanks John! I like this one too:)
Profanity Intermission 😂😂😂
We all need one occasionally:)
