Truly is no surprise that to this day she is still the best-selling female musical recording artist in history. There will never be another Madonna.
No lies detected!! ❤
Exactly!!! Guinness finally updated her albums sold as being 400million, title still secure. Lol
Her best live vocal. Stunning.
Her ferocious irony, her unique way of being on stage. Charisma is everything.
Both times she performed at the Oscar’s , she’s won both times
This proves Madonna can play any character live on stage, she’s a true Super Star ⭐️
This is one of my favorite Madonna performances. This is one of the best, if not best live vocals she has ever given. And they say she can't sing. smh. She looked gorgeous and like a classic 40's, 50's movie star! A true Queen!
100% agree with you!
My thoughts exactly. I adore this performance.
To my this is her best vocals, I rarely heard her belting like that !!
100%… The haters have been saying for 40 years she can’t sing and for for 40 years she’s proven them wrong 💚
@@brendenc8376 yes she has. 🙌🏻❤️
Sooner or Later ended up winning the Oscar for Best Original Song that night. And Madonna’s date for the night was none other than Michael Jackson! They were the IT couple of the show. 💕
No Madonna journey would be complete without both her Oscars performances as they are among her best, both 1991 and 1997.
She definitely deserved a standing ovation for this one.
I love that she started the vocals with her back to the audience. Sort of teasing them that it was her actually singing. At the time, those actors and actresses in the audience didn’t consider her a peer. She proved them wrong with this great performance and homage to classic Hollywood.
Her vocal was STUNNING.... and she looked amazing.
She's got it all, vocals, looks, moves and people still question her talent. Ridiculous haha she is such an entertainer, one in a million with her sheer stage presence. She was nervous here, you can see her hands shaking but she pulled it off perfectly.
I will see her live in 2 days here in Germany, beyond excited.
Yay! So excited for you! ❤️
Looking stunning and sounding incredible while giving this kind of dramatic performance including commanding a live orchestra. She’s conquered every challenge. Having Michael Jackson as her date that night just added to Oscar night status .
Seeing her look and talent grow and evolve in this journey is astounding. Like the growth from the first album to this performance just in 7 years is so much! And still more to come!
❤️❤️
This is probably one of her best performance ever
Watched that live in 1991, have probably watched it 1000 times since, still blows me away how good it was… 💚🇦🇺
AMAZING…. ! Can you believe that in just the few short years from her emergence and first songs, how comprehensively she’d evolved and perfected her craft to deliver a timeless WOW performance like this.! Blows me away every time I see it..
Your reactions are always so sincere. Addictive viewing .😉👍🏼
Please pour yourself a stiff drink before entering the next phase of this journey. Madonna’s Sex era’. 😆
Thank you so much! ❤️
And yes, drinks may be needed...😂
Her voice is absolutely spectacular here!
Was so happy to see this video today, thank you for reacting to it, I knew you both would be blown away. This was definitely her homage to Marilyn phase, as she not only posed on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in this dress and styling, but did a photo spread, copying some famous Marilyn pics ( please look that photo shoot up, just stunning).
I actually get a little emotional watching this performance, mainly thinking of all the people who put her down and said she couldn’t sing, would not last six months in the business and that she was only an image, not talent. Her mother would have been so damn proud.😊❤
Thank you! ❤️ And yes, her mother would've been so, so proud. What a triumph! ❤️
This was an epic performance!! One of the best in the Oscars history. She was absolutely everything that night!! We too were lost for words after this.
The closer you get to her Erotica era, the more excited I get, it all was so underrated & truly was her worst era of being absolutely vilified. But, what came out of it is some of her most groundbreaking & socially important work for woman in general, female artists and the entirety of the gay/trans community.😊❤
Can't wait! ❤️❤️
So excited to see her tomorrow in Paris. She is not doing this gem, but the fact she is still giving an incredible show at her age and after all she has meant for so many people is something not to neglect, after 40 years of being that sublime and a unique performer, she is one of a kind and the critics and more people should acknowledge that more. Living legend, let's enjoy and love her while she is still alive as one of the mohicans.
Have the best time! We're so happy for you. ❤️❤️
A legendary performance!
She was visibly nervous at the beginning and has spoken about how concerns over the microphone height and placement had thrown her off a bit.
This did win the Best Song award for Stephen Sondheim.
Who knows who won the top awards that night because next day headlines were all about how Madonna and her date Michael Jackson stole the show.
Some fashion trivia: $20 million in Harry Winston diamonds paired with her Bob Mackie gown.
Unlike most Oscar dresses, Madonna actually wore this again several times. Once for a Vanity Fair cover, again in 1992 photos included in her Sex book, and in a 2015 video intro to her Rebel Heart Tour.
Fran Drescher also wore this dress in an episode of The Nanny, although her styling was more evocative of Audrey Hepburn than Marilyn.
Fran look absolutely gorgeous in this dress!! I remember that vividly.
Thank you for the info! ❤️ Not at all surprised that she wore the dress multiple times - She looked absolutely incredible in it. ❤️
Also, her air kiss at the end was to Michael Jackson.
The date with Michael Jackson was simply an iconic moment, the two kings of Pop, it's a shame that the collaboration between them was not completed later, but God, I mean, she killed the vocals in that song. 😻🤙
This is definitively one of her best performances. She's always been a decent singer but people never truly gave her credit for it back then.
I knew you two would be blown away by this. One of her if not her best vocal ever in her career. What's really interesting about this performance, to give some background to it, she was alerted moments before coming up from stage, her mic may not come up on time. She was furious and extremely nervous at the same time. If you look back at the performance especially at the beginning when you see a close up of her, you see her hand trembling. She most definitely took those nerves and used it to give one of her best live performances ever. Another tidbit.... at the end, if you look her earring falls from her ear. You can see it hanging on her shoulder while singing, and then at the end, you see her toss something off the stage. It's the earring. Those earrings were LOANED to her by a huge company. They were extremely expensive. You can bet that company cinched their pearls when she threw the earring.
Thank you for reacting to this. I don't think you'll ever hear her sing anything better than this. She still has some live vocal moments throughout her career, but nothing really comes close to this. When she sings this live on Blond Ambition, her vocals are far more rough and shaky. But then again, she's singing night after night, so there is no way she can keep up that vocal like she did with The Oscars night after night on tour.
Thank you! ❤️ We really appreciate the background info you shared - Cannot even imagine how nervous she must have been. But she did it, and it was epic! ❤️
Plus she was sick on The Blond Ambition Tour with throat issues.
@@teralmiles Yes, in fact she cancelled the very next night of the show I attended. I thought she sounded great still, so it shocked when I found out she had throat issues. Maybe the girls should watch Truth Or Dare and do a reaction to it. It's a great behind the scenes film about the Blond Ambition Tour. They also will see alternate performances of these songs as well.
Terrific review ladies. Not like you really had a choice, everybody wanted this review.
Madonna was very nervous for this performance, despite being decked out in a Bob Mackie dress, that is now in a museum, and $20 million worth of Harry Winston jewelry. You can see her hand visibly tremble at 2:25. All Hollywood industry in front of her, I guess she had something to prove. And prove it she did. I doubt you noticed, but at 7:20 you can see one of those very valuable earrings has become loose, and she tossed it into the crowd.
A top-tier Oscar performance, indeed!
Have a lovely Sunday ladies. ♥️
Aww, thank you. ❤️❤️
Hope you have a great week! ❤️
THIS is a fan favorite!!!
Best performance if hers. She is so nervous. You can see her hand shaking like crazy. Remembers in a group of people who don't actually think she has talent.
That was the year that Michael Jackson was her date to the Oscars, A paparazzi 's dream . It was unreal seeing those two together. This stellar live performance met with everyone's approval and her voice control and style...knocked everyone off their feet, including Michael. That kiss that she blows out to the audience was for him. The song ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Song from a Motion Picture, "Dick Tracy". later on in the show.
Definitely a paparazzi's dream! Two stars on that level at the Oscars together...Wow.
One of the most iconic performances of her career. Both your reactions were priceless ❤❤
Thank you! ❤️❤️
What a great performance!
Excellent performance. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I knew you'd ladies would love this one. Madonna really gave it those stuck up "real" actors hehehehe And with recent ex Warren Beatty in the front row! The photo sessions from around this time really capture something special too. There's a Vanity Fair shoot from 1991 called "The Misfit" where Madonna recreates some classic Monroe shots, but every photo shows the difference between the two women. There is no element of any photo of Madonna where she gives the aura of being "controlled" by anybody. It is such a clever way of showing how a woman can be sexual without being just an object. I am so happy you loved the performance too. A million kisses to each of you! ♥
Aww, thank you so much! ❤️ ❤️ Right back at you. 😘😘
We'll definitely have to check out that photo shoot - Sounds amazing!
This is one of her best, can you see from how her hand is shaking in the beginning how nervous she was? The whole theater is filled with Hollywood elite at a time people were doubting her, yet STILL she acts like she confidently owns the place while delivering a jaw dropping performance. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 You should check out her Live to tell performance from the confessions tour, but make sure you watch the three mini stories before she starts singing it’s integral to getting the whole message! As always another awesome reaction, thank you both! 👏🏼🥰👏🏼
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️
We reacted to Live to Tell from the Confessions Tour previously, but we're excited to see it in context when we watch the entire concert. ❤️
Madonna is a living legend. So iconic. ❤❤❤
Great reaction! 👍🏻 Brenda seemed to be especially blown away and surprised.😊
Thank you! ❤️❤️
Blown away, wowed, in awe... Yep! ❤️
You are a good and happy surprise for us who are Madonna fans. Even today, even after watching shows, clips, interviews and everything else about Madonna so many times, seeing your reaction and respect for an artist who made me who I am today is incredible. Thanks for the excellent content! I will follow you very closely. Thanks! Hugs from Brazil!❤
Aww, thank you so much! What an incredibly sweet thing to say! ❤️❤️ Hugs right back to you. ❤️
Thanks ladies, for reacting to Madonna, I’ve always bee a fan, she’s definitely a Star, I have to go back and look at your other reactions to Madonna, Madonna graduated from High School with a 4.0 grade average, she’s definitely smart and kept changing her music in every decade! She’s actually coming to concert early 2024 where I live, but I was reluctant to go see here, wish I could have seen her in the 90’s but I’m reading that she’s getting great reviews so I think I need to go to the concert
Thank you! ❤️
Go see her if you can - we're going in a few months, and we're so excited!
@@OurAnxiousReactions thanks, I’m pretty sure I’m going to go see her, getting too old for regrets, lol
Hard to believe in a year we got this - the blond ambition tour and vogue mtv awards 🤩
everyone was saying she couldnt sing live, this proved everyone wrong....
AMAZING no one has done this close ever.....
Just amazing the depth, breadth and versatility of her artistry. Here as a film/theatrical musical comedy showgirl/actress of the 1930s jazz swing era performing the signature song of her 1990 Dick Tracy film character of Breathless Mahoney. In this performance she was channeling the sensuousness and charisma of actress Marilyn Monroe whom she admired (recall her 1984 mv of Material Girl). She also produced her 1990 I’m Breathless soundtrack album that included this number written by Broadway music composer Stephen Sondheim that won him 1991 Oscar for Best Original (film) song. Of the 12 songs in this album tracklist, 4 were performed in the Dick Tracy film of which 3 were written by Sondheim, 6 other songs including Vogue were co-written by Madonna. I felt this role and performance somewhat previewed her 1996 role for the film adaptation of the musical Evita. She’s truly the Queen of Pop for she has practically covered in her artistry all the genre in pop music. ❤Luv your beautiful reaction.
Awww, thank you so much! ❤️
"Just amazing the depth, breadth and versatility of her artistry." Couldn't have said it any better. ❤️❤️
Vocallllll’s!! 🤩
Her and Michael Jackson went together to the Oscars and no one knew and it made a paparazzi frenzy and her performance headlined the press worldwide and the Oscar winners came second to the headline. I live in LA and it was crazy that night wherever Michael and Madonna went to the after parties.
Didn't even think about them at the after parties together - Must've been wild!
She puts life in every performance she’s doing, old and new, Madonna has her own twist, and the IT factor that undeniably can mesmerize the audience. Like it or not, this girl is a total package, and still has more to offer artistically. Alone or not on stage, you can’t take your eyes off of her. Magnifico! ❤❤❤Two thumbs up for you girls. Job well done. Truthful reactions and always consistent. Thanks and more on Madonna please…😊👍 I
Aww, thank you! ❤️❤️
OMG that was an incredible performance and loved your reactions ❤
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️
brilliant performance possibly the best Oscar performance by anyone.
I’m literally doing the math till you get to The Power Of Goodbye reaction ❤️❤️
❤️❤️
At least we're in the nineties now...😉
Great reaction, flawless performance. I think it was inspired more by Rita Hayworth in Gilda ("Put the Blame on Mame"), although there are elements of Marilyn too.
Thank you! ❤️❤️
Stunning🎉
Everything about the im Breathless album is amazing! You should definitely listen to it! I love it so much I named my fur baby after it! Her name is Breathless! And yes she is gorgeous! But yes this was a amazing performance by the Queen!
What a great name for your fur baby! ❤️
I had to watch this again😊A great performance and I love your reactions. 👍
Aww, thank you so much! ❤️❤️
Queen 👑 M
Fun fact: Billy Crystal, who was Master of Ceremonies for this show, introduced Madonna as “the NC-17 portion” of the show. Also, Madonna’s date for the show was Michael Jackson.
The song is from Dick Tracy (1990), it was written by Stephen Sondheim; who also wrote for great musicals like West Side Story (1961) and Gypsy (1962). And the song won the Oscar for Best Song beating out “Blaze of Glory” by Jon Bon Jovi for Young Guns II (1990).
Thank you for sharing that with us! ❤️❤️
Such a great performance!
❤❤❤❤❤
This show was truly excellent, I think these years were the pinnacle of what an artist should be. When someone said she was so nervous her hand was shaking, I didn't know until I checked. I think they said it was because there were a lot of people from the film world and it seems that Madonna always had bad reviews as an actress, maybe she was nervous because she still had to prove that she was good to a certain sector of the entertainment industry. Your reactions are pure gold. Kisses 😍😍😍
Aww, that's so sweet - Thank you! ❤️❤️😘
She definitely showed them what she could do with that jaw-dropping performance. 😉
Her date that night was Michael Jackson. She paid tribute to him by performing with just one glove on.
You must love me + don’t cry for me Argentina (both together) from the sticky and sweet tour and la Isla Bonita from the sticky and sweet tour must be next ❤❤❤❤❤
Bob Mackie-dress, Harry Winston- diamonds and Michel Jackson in a front row as her Avec.....stunning performance !
Absolutely! ❤️❤️
@@OurAnxiousReactions She was dripping in 20 million dollars worth of diamonds, not a regular baby in a beer bar ;) Thanks for your vid´s So nice to see hard core fans exploring stuff that I did at that time. Thank You greatly.
Thank you for being here with us! ❤️❤️
Iconic😍👑
That evening Ando, accompanied by Michael Jackson, during the evening when they were seen sitting together, they played with the same movements.
She is super super nervous here. This is Oscars. These Hollywood types are not her fans. These are the people who had been looking down on her, regarding her as just a pop starlet with no talent. She had so much to prove and she killed it.
Im sorry, I just found you guys. So glad to go back and watch your older reactions to some of M's most iconic performances. Btw, did you notice her twerking at the end? She was the first to do everything!
The thing about this performance is she did this in front of a crowd of haters. The Hollywood elite who looked down on and thumbed their nose to Madonna back then. Thats why she was so nervous. She blew their expectations out of the water that night.😍
Thank you for joining the journey! ❤️❤️
And yes, this performance is absolutely epic (We didn't even think about her being the first to twerk- How cool is that?! )!
Hello, the original version of this song is completely different, much more classical. If you did cao in the finale, Madonna pulls her earring that had caught in her hair. It took his staff hours to find it because it was a jewel rented from a well-known jewelry store
Ray of light on oprah should be watched too
Brilliant amazing
👑
This is Madonna's father favorite performance. She mentioned that her father was so excited about this that he called her to tell her that he was so proud of her
That's so sweet - Thank you for sharing that story! ❤️❤️
@@OurAnxiousReactions You are very welcome! ❤️❤️ I love your reactions
You must love me Oscars is a must. Lourdes had been born and the vocal image transition is everything enjoy xxx
❤️❤️
Madonna has been a victim of brutal and damaging media coverage for years. The mainstream media outlets have frequently overlooked her in favour of more "wholesome" performers who posed no threat. These performers, such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, sang the same songs as their predecessors and chose to be less demanding and not controversial for their image, which means a fake persona. They were media-friendly and often nodded in agreement without being true to themselves or their audience. But Madonna was different. She had the vocal power to match these performers, as demonstrated during her Oscar performance. Madonna commanded the attention of everyone, not just the people present, and was featured on most newspaper front pages and news networks. At the 1991 Oscars held at The Shrine Auditorium LAX, she escorted Michael Jackson down the red carpet while paying tribute to Marilyn Monroe. She sparkled in $20 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds (mind you, this was1991 prices). If social media had existed, Madonna would have broken the internet multiple times. Each piece of diamond jewellery had a personal bodyguard that would not take their eyes off the bit they were in charge of ALL NIGHT until they returned the next day. The thing I noticed was that Madonna was dragging Michael around the red carpet and answering all the questions like she was in charge of the relationship - Gosh, to think no woman had been in control like that on the red carpet with an icon beside her - both were legendary in their fields at the time. There will not be another like Madonna in our lifetime - her likes are rare, and I'm just delighted to have lived through it and watched her live for decades - I still can't get enough of her live performances.
I loved your reaction to this performance, and Emily was obviously mesmerised by it that she had to lift her jaw back up at the end. Lol - great stuff.
Cheerio
Neo
Thank you! ❤️ And definitely mesmerized! lol
Can't believe we'll actually get to see her live in a few months... ❤️
Good one! Thank you for expressing your thought s about Madonna. Luv it! ❤😊
@@albertoolarte206 - I enjoy talking about Her Majesty Queen Madonna; I've been hooked on her since she released Burning Up in early 1984. The video was hot (hence Burning Up, lol) as she rolled seductively in the middle of the road wearing a white stretch dress that she kept pulling like she wanted to rip it off - I was as mesmerised as I had not seen a woman behave like this on TV and sounding so good - she is visually beautiful with those big almond eyes and Aurally stunning to the ears - she has never disappointed me with her art. I am a little saddened because she's 65 years old now, as time is a friend to nobody - she must be immortal, but Micheal Jackson and Prince have shown us nobody is, and she did almost die recently.
Amazing
You must love me from sticky and sweet and la isla Bonita from the girlie show
❤
It’s perfection and to this day she doesn’t get the credit she deserves. Funny thing…the riser for her wasn’t working and apparently it was chaos under the stage but it worked at the last second. Thank God. Also….her super expensive Harry Winston diamond earring was slowly falling off. I didn’t notice it until years later. Also she went with Michael Jackson.
Do the superbowl reaction.. it's amazing!
I literally watched the Oscars that year for her alone. Madonna!! at the Oscars!?!? Scandal! What will she do?!? I'm pretty sure the producers were, um...pooping? themselves. LoL I got way too excited. Sang along with her so loudly I thought I was going to get ejected from my home. Memories.
Love that story (and love that she killed that performance!)! ❤️❤️
❤❤❤
"Dumb blonde" says 'Talk to me general schwarzkopf. Tell me all about it"
I love the song so I am a bit biased but good lord she looks and sounds amazing!
Yes she does! ❤️❤️
she's not a great singer but what she does have is this very very specific beautiful classic tone! and the performing and personallity she puts into it goes a long way
LOVE your reactions! You're about to get to PRIME MADONNA! Justify My Love, This Used To Be My Playground, live performances from BLOND AMBITION, and the EROTICA era!
Thank you! ❤️
So many great songs on the horizon!
Her million dollar earning falls off at the end and she throws it in to the music pit.
