    Love my 2014 Acura RLX. It is the nicest car I have ever driven. The cruise control on the freeway is amazing. It practically drives itself. Highly recommend if you are looking for a used car.

    I drove the 2014 Acura RLX and all I can say is Acura "nailed it" with a proper luxury car such as the RLX. It is very quiet(I mean quiet like a library) very solid, very powerful and most of all it will be reliable because it is made by Honda. If I am in the market for a luxury car here are my choices:
    1st choice: Acura RLX
    2nd choice: Lexus GS350
    3rd choice: Mercedes E350
    4th choice: Bmw 535i
    5th choice: Infiniti M35(aka Q70?)
    6th choice: Audi A6
    7th choice: Cadillac XTS
    I like all these cars but I think(my opinion) the Acura RLX beats them all for "bang for the buck."
    *TO ALL THE ACURA HATERS(who probably never driven the RLX): Upon my experience with the RLX, I can safely say that in NO WAY the RLX is a "glorified Honda." The quality and premium materials is something you won't find in a Honda, it's more befitting of a proper $60,000 car which the RLX is. In fact, I noticed that the RLX had a better quality interior then a $80,000 Mercedes GL450 tester that I had not too long ago. The GL450 had hard plastic surfaces in areas where it should be soft, especially for a 80 grand car, on the other hand I didn't find a single hard plastic material in the RLX; it was all leather stitched or soft paaded.

    Acura is smart, they know bling is only skin deep. Talk about a VERY well engineered luxury car that is built to last. It gives you the best of both worlds: high end luxury and options while also giving you peace of mind with the highest reliability in its class. And thank you, Acura, for giving it a 6-speed instead of the indecisive 7 and 8 speeds that are simply annoying to drive.

    I have owned the RLX since it came out and I will tell you it's the best luxury car out there in that price range. Put it into sport mode and downshift with the paddle shifters and you will surprise many of those wannabe street racers out there. I had the Infiniti m35 sport and m35x, which are fine cars however they lacked the refinement that the rlx brings. It's quieter than any Lexus I've ever been in. The technology behind it is good and functional. The headlamps are absolutely amazing. Bright as all hell. People bash it and talk crap becAuse they are unfamiliar. You don't see many on the road where I'm from but they stand out and are very rememberable.

      Sonny B You are very wrong on so many levels. Lets talk about the RLX first: The Consumer reports which is an independent organization that reviews cars, electronics, and products without an endorsement from any company did not give good reviews on the RLX. The vehicle suffered from a stiff ride by comparing it to the rivals such as Lexus, Audi, and Mercedes, and it is not very powerful vehicle for its price range. Within the RLX's price range, you can get V8 vehicles, and they are more competitive.
      I decided to see if Consumer reports was wrong about the RLX by test driving it with my father. Consumer reports were very right about the RLX, and it was a stiff ride by comparing it to the Lexus LS 460, or even to the Lexus ES 350. It was a very quite car, but still not as quite as the Lexus. However, I have to say Acura RLX has a very quiet cabin by comparing to the old Acura vehicles. My parents been a long time fan of the Acuras, we have owned 2005 Acura TL which is mine at this point, 2004 Acura MDX, and now we own a 2014 Acura TL. My parents wanted the the RLX at the beginning before they have bought the 2014 Acura TL, but they have changed their minds when they drove it. Also, Acura RL/RLX sales are very poor at this point, and Acura dealer immediately knocked down 8K on the RLX when we have test drove it, because of the sales are very bad.
      In the regards of the headlights, they are definitely bright, but not a game changer.

    We appreciate the criticism, we don't like voiceover's either. The wind on the day we filmed this was just too much at times so we were forced to do so. We also didn't have as much time as we would have liked to have with this car. You can be sure that most if not all of our videos will never have a voiceover... it's just too easy and we don't like taking the easy way.

    I'm the proud owner of a 22-yr old 1991 Acura Legend, and it's got around 200,000 miles and it's still running strong, and coming from me, I really think Acura has a good hit with this new RLX. It was smart of them to make it FWD again, because with the P-AWS system, you already have the agility of RWD, but the safety of FWD in wet/snow conditions.

    We were at the Acura press event in Detroit where it was announced that their new RLX was designed to be their flagship executive sedan. They claim it has the interior volume of a 7 series but the exterior size and price of a 5 series. Of course this vehicle still have flaws, no car is perfect but you shouldn't be so harsh on the brand simply because you don't like the styling. Looks are subjective, and what you view as un-attractive could be handsome to someone else.

  • @theredline
    @theredline  11 років тому +1

    We actually never compared the car to the S-Class or 7 series, it was only briefly mentioned in the intro as a representation of a flagship vehicle. Here is the fact, the RLX is the flagship for Acura, it may not compare favorably to RWD V8 sedans but the car has its own unique strengths. Again, at the press release Acura provided an E and 5 series to drive for comparison. Those are the two competitors that Acura sees. In our eyes, it competes more with the XTS, FWD A6, S60, and FWD Lincoln MkS.

    I just bought a 2012 RL with the 6 speed auto transmission and the 3.7L. With 95k miles, it still drives like new. There are roughly 1500 units ever made and I think they nailed it! Saw a few on the road and I have to admit it has a big presence compared to other cars and it looks really nice. It's a big step forward and it would be great if Acura gives you an option of having a sportier model with 400 hp, lip kit and 20 inch wheels and I know they have the sport hybrid but that weighs a lot and takes a lot of trunk space. Still need a v8 option. Come on Acura even Hyundai has v8's smh!!!

    • @Kb1legend08
      @Kb1legend08 6 років тому +5

      they scrapped plans for a V8 long ago. It simply doesn't need it, however, the Germans are happy to sell you an engine with how-many-ever cylinders you want. Lets say they do make a v8, how much would you be willing to pay for a Honda v8 when it already comes with a v6 at $60k. You can just get a benz or bmw with a v8 and get more power anyday if that's what you're after. Honda and Acura were never known for having massive amounts of power nor will they ever, they are following a different approach. Honda knows this and this is why they stick to v6s and have since Acuras inception in 1986. That's why honda is known for being reliable, how many car-makers dream of having that notion amongst the populous. Believe it or not, Acuras ride like they are on water, that was their approach to make it feel like a yacht and they absolutely delivered, when you drive one, it feels like you're skipping on top of the water in a luxurious yacht and everything behind you feels like an aftermath of a tsunami.

    • @nevessl998
      @nevessl998 4 роки тому +1

      They really don't need a v8. Heck, even bmw is killing their v12 and very soon they'll kill their v8s too. Why? They (bmw) said that they can get a lot more power from their v6s turbo. And that v6 turbo that Acura is cooking for their line ups is gonna be sweet and faster than most natural v8s!. Even the new Accord with that 2.0t is faster that a bunch of v8s out there!

    • @TonyKimtheamusementparkfan
      @TonyKimtheamusementparkfan Рік тому

      Yeah Honda has built their reputation in providing the public reliable 4 cylinders and V6 engines. The J-series V6 has been around for decades and it is a proven design that lasts years. Plus their V6 engines are plenty powerful for the majority of people.

    Please watch the video on how Acura made these headlights, LED's have been one of the hardest headlight challenge for engineers since their light is very uni directionally oriented. I have never been an Acura fan, but watching the Acura video for the amount of work that went into engineering this light system gives me an appreciation for the behind the seen work that must have gone into this car. These are NOT like any other LED on the market.

    The TL and TSX are due for a redesign next year. There is a rumor floating around saying Acura will combine the two cars into the TLX but the company hasn't confirmed anything. Guess we will have to wait and see. In the mean time, they are offering great deals on the current 2013 TL, including a $1500 rebate if you are a current 2003 or newer Acura owner.

    Acura is regarded as tier 2 luxury, we acknowledged they are not at tier 1. This vehicle is supposed to help them reach that status but obviously there are buyers out there like yourself who still don't see Acura at that level. As far as Buick is concerned, most would argue they are below Acura in the luxury ladder, perhaps you should keep a more open mind and go thoroughly test drive and look at a current Acura product. They are improving and building quite nice vehicles today.

    We think the FWD model will be a tough sell to buyers looking to replace their 5 series, E-Class, Infiniti M, and Lexus GS. This car will appeal to the buyer looking for FWD and the best V6 MPG. The value of the RLX is good for the features but again, no matter how good the RLX drives, people will always say the FWD is a deal breaker. We think the upcoming AWD model will help, as far as it being an improved seller over the RL of course, but only time will tell.

    Dad bought one new in 2014. At first, I didn't like it due to harsher suspension and floatier steering and drivetrain compared at the time to my dad's 04' RL. However, it has grown on me. With the exception of a few recalls and a weird valvetrain issue, reliability hasn't been an issue. 127,284 on the clock and runs better than day one due to VCM suppression and suspension smoothing out very nicely due to actually decent tires. The originals were harsh Michelin Primacy Mxv4 if i remember correctly. Only thing is the lights suck in the rain. This thing takes the 1G RL's smoothness on the highway to the next level. It is the ultimate daily driver for highway use.

    I drove a 2018 TLX A-Spec and 2018 RLX Advance on the same day (July 21, 2018). The RLX feels like a proper luxury sedan, but the TLX is so good it almost makes the RLX a moot point. It's hard to justify the RLX at 55 grand over a loaded TLX that's 10-15 grand cheaper. Unless it's the Sport Hybrid.
    This has happened before. The 2005 RL came out, and it was amazing. As a 12 year old at the time I thought "I'm going to drive one of these one day". Then the 2009 TL came out, all of a sudden the TL had a more modern design and offered just as much for far less money. Sales of the 2009-2012 RL were weak as consumers gravitated toward its little brother (or to other brands because many people didn't like the TL's "beak" grille. Their loss). Then the RLX came out, and it was a proper step above the TL. Then the TLX came out.
    If I were Acura, I'd update the RLX's styling, make the Sport Hybrid standard (and/or offer a V8, but this is Honda after all), and add some features to further differentiate the two cars.

    I can't post links to YT, but read the first drives of the RLX. RLX has stated many times that this car competes with the E class and 5 series.
    You also have to remember that just because a brand is Tier 1 or Tier 2, it doesn't mean they can not compete with higher models. The A6 does a fine job of competing with BMW and Mercedes.
    I also have to ask, have driven the RLX to make such judgments against it? Have you seen it in person?

    RWD and V8 is what makes a flagship sedan a flagship sedan. It ain't a flagship if it doesn't have 400hp and a RWD platform. FWD and V6 remind me of a top end accord/TL. That's why I don't think this car is worth the price tag it holds. Btw great video! Really informed me on this car. You just made me have abit more respect for the RLX :)

    well the old RL didn't have push button start, but it did have intelligent key with keyless ignition. You put your foot on the break and turned the keyless ignition where a normal key would fit. It's just like what's found on the Cadillac CTS

    You also view Buick as a direct competitor to Acura, you most likely feel that way since you own a vehicle from them. We don't blame you for cross shopping the two. Each vehicle from Buick is based off another platform from Chevy or GM's European division. Acura's vehicles are similar as they are based on other platforms from Honda with the exception of the NSX. Regardless of your views, most buyers interested in Acura do not cross-shop with Buick simply because of the brand name.

    This vehicle does not compete with a 3 series, it has the interior room of a 7 series but the size is similar to a 5 series. Price wise, it undercuts that vehicle as well.

    Interesting. I quite like this car, but I can see why some buyers would choose the Cadillac XTS over the RLX. While I'm a fan of what Acura has done, some buyers wants highly expressive styling and cunning edge tech on their car

    RLX is no where near a copy of the 'Accord'. This car is a prestige beauty. I just recently got 14 and I can still say is a head turner. Owning this vehicle, I always enjoy driving it. I test drove the Accord Hybrid 14 touring model. If, people can say just like an 'Accord' then, they are not aware of the 'LKAS' and 'CMBS' technology the RLX offers. I had an experience from 80-0 , the car came to a full complete stop and stood there for as long as traffic was still, without any human intervention. I am not saying it is 100% auto-drive but this technology was released back in 2014, that is something to take away...

    At 4:22 is that the auto recirc function on the screen like lexus has (where it automatically closes the outside vent when diesel smoke and odors are about to come in). I didn't see anything about that in the press materials.

    Rwd just feels better in the turns, especially since understeer is not an issue. That's the main difference the average driving cannot distinguish. I prefer the feeling if being pushed through corners, than being pulled through via fwd.

    Score !!! I was already sold on the Lexus ES 300 hybrid every luxury option in the book and quite affordable considering what it is.and I saw this ... OMG I chased it on the freeway for a good 3 miles to find out what it was and I was in a slow 1988 ford van (work truck).
    I test drove it this morning it's just amazing. I was concerned however that it has no active suspension. The dealer explained Tech Nerd Geek Acura from a power-train standpoint will always go engineering before electronic aids IRONICALLY for long term durability (oh yea it's a Honda duh).. It does ride very firm and corners very flat. I wanted it a bit sporty also the dampers react quickly on most bumps that's important to me.
    I'll occasionally use it as a executive commuter. Suits,coffee mugs,and laptops don't mix. According to the dealer the Japanese people don't buy a lot of cars. They buy 1 or 2 good ones and keep them longer than the average American. I said to myself your full of crap he is a salesman after all but reliability is an Acura strong suit.
    Its about $15,000 more than I wanted to spend. The Lexus was $45,600 but the dealer said he can get me out the door at $56,900 FULLY LOADED CNET STYLE!!! if I can come up with 10% down for a 2013. There are no changes on the 14s which were set to arrive soon. I told him ill think about it and I need a week to think it over then RAN to the bank like a 10 year old to and ice cream truck.

      Yes its a dealer car crystal black pearl with seacoast interior advanced lol I call it Oreo cookie. Its a family owned dealership in the San Fernando valley California.it has 39 miles on it. Because its never been titled its considered new. Most RLXs are sold right after the test drive at this dealership.
      Acura/Honda owners are very loyal... We ended up $59700 out the door Ext bumper to bumper warranty. Yea I saved over $7-9k I've seen your posts at a few RLX videos. Are you in the market for one too. I highly recommend a test drive also id recommend a smaller dealership where you get a 1st class treatment and they call you by your 1st name. I kid you not I was relaxing in a massage chair watching my baby get detailed while sipping a cinnamon espresso.

      Couple things, this car is a 2014 that has been out since February 2013. Not sure if they will wait until September or October of this year to release the next model year as they usually would. Also, while u may have saved some money, you did not save $7-9K. The most you could pay for the RLX advance model is just over $61K MSRP.

    • @GeorgeKnighton
      @GeorgeKnighton 11 років тому

      In November and December of 2013, it was possible to get an RLX Advance for 51.5 to 52.7 in some parts of the United States. So you really could "save" as much as 10 grand because Honda was giving dealers enough money that you could go well below invoice and actually well into the dealer holdback. They're still giving dealers quite a bit of money, but the real world price of the RLX seems to have gone up a little bit since December.

  • @grizzlytaylor

    There's a "bossness" that the RLX lacks. Some more aggressive, or maybe luxe, styling cues could take this design & package a long way.

  • @socalguy97

    That's interesting you say that. Every professional reviewer (look anywhere and start with Car and Driver) criticizes Honda as having the least attractive, exciting or appealing interiors. If you think they're the best of any automaker, then I don't necessarily think you've looked hard enough or extensively enough.

    The question was asked to 5 series and 3 series BMW owners whether or not they knew their car had RWD or AWD and surprisingly a lot of people couldn't tell the difference. P-AWS has already proven to narrow the gap as far as FWD and RWD go. Remember, the hybrid version is coming. AWD with 370hp and 30 MPG city and highway. Should be a game changer. Dealerships have already pre sold a few RLX's :)

  • @itzmando

    just a simple questions to get your take on what pricing may be. I have read on the Acurazine threads that most wouldnt even bother with buying an Acura in that price bracket. They love the features/tech but it seems that it might be a slow seller.
    I plan to just upgrade to a new TL than wait a few years when the 3G MDX comes out, and purchase one. I can see most of the tech from the RLX being carried over to the MDX.

    The Accord touring has none of those features, the RLX does offer the heated/cooled front seats, sunshades, and heated rear seats. All those other features would be nice, but they would really drive the price up much higher and some people won't justify spending that cash, especially if they will never use it.

    I understand where Acura was going with the RLX. Not everyone wants a giant, RWD luxury barge. This is a comfortable, roomy sedan that is very luxurious and packed with features. It stands on its own merits. I'd think of it as "subdued luxury." The question is whether or not the "subdued-luxury" market is big enough for Acura to have bothered with it (again), and whether or not they should have just gone with something larger and more-powerful in order to improve their brand's reputation...
